But seriously, do you have any jobs with the "recover wounded" labour enabled? Do you have a hospital? Who's been bringing him food/water over the past two years?

If you can dig a room out of a solid gold vein, then put masterwork engravings on the walls/floor and fill the room with stuff made of the gold you mined, that'll be pretty damn valuable. Otherwise, you can't engrave constructed walls- so you don't really get to choose your material, and I would rather go for engravings anyway.

Also, try making the room massive, or putting artifacts inside. That always helps.

Thanks for the replies guys, but it seems to have fixed itself after i turned DF off and on again. After i re-loaded DF, the magma tiles stopped displaying as 7/7, and displayed 3/7 instead :-\

Yes, it is directly underneath- i built a room, tapped magma, then built the excat same room 1 z-level up. The channels are red with magma.

And i already tried deconstructing/reconstructing. Still didn't work. (channel was dug before workshop was built)

So i find some magma, roughly 29 levels down, and start constructiong magma forges/smelters. When they're complete, i go to melt down some lovely bronze crap from the humans, and am told that the magma smelter "must have magma accessible from below one of the 8 boundary tiles". But i have a channeled square under the boundary tiles of each workshop, each tile leading down to 7/7 magma. Then, my well runs dry- even though it's got 6/7 unfrozen water underneath.

Any help?

Hmm, this is odd. I embarked on a cluster of grey cabinets (that was their map representation on the may green tileset) and arrive to 3 40x40 obsidian towers, all different heights. They have random dwarves inside them who stand around doing nothing and don't count as my population, and they've been carved out of solid obsidian pillars, rather than constructed walls. Also, they're completeley smooth with fortified top levels.

WTF?

(p.s. no supplies, no buildings just 4 towers and 39 random dorfs (some are soldiers))

So i have completely gone against established practice, and kept my elven traders alive for once- i wanted the giant war leopards they bring. Problem is, they only bring them rarely (I'll genocide elves when i get a breeding pair) and i was wondering if there's a way to increase the frequency of certain goods from elf caravans, as they don't have liasons.

I think I've found the answer: a combination of it arriving on the map in the middle of ballista practice (HOW did i not notice that before?) and barrels of dropped booze after it interrupted the haulers = explosion. That, or it was a swamp dragon.
