On the naval organisation screen;
Click the task force you want to add the task group to. Click 'Add' under 'Modify Organisation Branches' and enter whatever name you want for it. You'll need to add this branch as you cannot add task groups to the top level of a task force for some reason. Then click on the branch you just added and click 'Add TG', with the wanted task group selected.

As far as I can tell, you make a new one by going ctrl+F4, new TG(at the bottom of the screen) and then assign ships to it through task groups(F12) and then rooting around in the naval organisation tab. I'm not fully sure how it works, but that's as far as I can get after a couple of minutes looking around.

I was playing as Finland and I had just conquered Sweden, got some bitchin' tech teams and I was on my way to make friends with Germany, but then suddenly, in 1941--as it happened in history--HOLY SHIT SPOILER THE USSR DELIVERS AN ULTIMATUM TO FINLAND!!!1

The Winter War was initiated because I wasn't giving up all the provinces they asked for (no way Jose!) and a ZERG RUSH of Soviet troops quickly obliterated me as  I completely disregarded the event and thought I could hold out against the bear on the unicycle like Finland historically had against all odds. (I failed, and Helsinki was annexed)
Hearts of iron?

Do you have Amnesia yet? It's fairly cheap, apparently it's genuinely scary.

Those Spectres must have been pretty big ships  :o.

How did you get the systems on your galactic map to spread out rather than sitting in one blob at the center? All of the systems on my map are stacked on the Sol system.

E: Nevermind, figured it out

How do you do it cheese?

What Greenbane said, you need to organise them yourselves, drag them off the stack with shift-click then click sys-pos and save the positions when you're done. I think that's actually a pretty neat feature.

Curses Alstar, making me play again!
Once you get past the user-hostile interface, it really is a great game. Since I'm currently not working, I've probably put in 100 hours in the past couple of weeks.

Yea, I first played last year but lost interest after getting stuck with a few things but now I've come back to it, I'm seriously loving it. Has anyone read some of the fiction(Basically LPs with roleplay and only a few pics) on the aurora forums? Steve's Trans-Newtonian campaign is pretty epic, big twist in the sixth part and lots of good tips for combat and various other things.

I love this game, my most played game on steam by far, out of about 50, with 615 hours racked up. Has anybody ever tried something other than gamemodes? Built any awesome stuff?

As for gamemodes, I used to play on the Pulsar effect game modes a lot until they sold everything off and disappeared.

Can you see where they are on your system maps? Maybe they're being overhauled/refitted or something?

Oh, this wasn't my last death, but it's a good story.

We were taking a chopper to the target when the warning light comes on and we hear the beep of death. A missile screams by the window near me, quickly followed by an Su-25. We're freaking out at this point, and it swings around and fires another missile.

Boom.

Heavy damage, somehow the engines are still operable. Our pilot is taking us down for an emergency landing, when the Su lights us up with it's nose gun. Engines cut, we drop the last few feet like a rock, and scramble out of the chopper. It tips over and explodes just as we reach safe distance. We run for the forest, hoping the Su doesn't try to strafe us.

The guy in front of me goes down injured as enemies open fire from the treeline.

I drag him with me as we retreat to the wrecked chopper, blindly firing my rifle one handed. We get behind the wreck and our medic started healing him. We call for evac, a chopper with an escort is on the way. We hold out just barely, and the chopper is on the horizon. Our squad leader calls out an enemy with an AA launcher, and I rush out firing full auto. I'm gunned down in seconds, but in those seconds, my squad lined up shots and killed the AA guy, before escaping on the chopper.
Game. FUCKING GAME.

Sounds like Arma 2 or the likes.

When you research the genome, it allows you to research alterations to your races genes that give them wider habitability tolerances. For example, you might decide to research a 5% increase in temperature tolerance. These won't take effect straight away though, as far as I know you need to make a new species in the component design screen and/or build a gene modification centre on your planet to actually make use of it.

They are also built by your industry and you don't need to worry about fuel, speed or maintenance, so you can make huge planetary weapons platforms, albeit still with a fairly high cost.

After finding a second race of NPRs who also did not want to communicate, I decided to go into SM mode and SM communications between us to see what actually happens when it works. Apparently, they are the Precursors. I now regret this decision, I hope it doesn't mess anything up, like causing the Precursors to become my eternal, loving friends or something, however interesting that might be. Do precursor wrecks appear randomly or will those have been an NPR fighting with them?
