Queen ... George. I guess it's a very progressive Georgian England.
While I've never had a female succeed to the throne I learnt by playing a nation that starts with one that they fuction just like a male leader except they can't be converted into generals  :-[

Miscmods does add Vinland as a playable nation. It's a colonial separatism event. Not sure if there's an event to actually form Vinland from a European starting though.

It seems to be almost Call of Duty: Fedual Warfare, right down to the blood smears on the screen when hit.
The combat looks much more improved than Mount and Blade and beign able to customise your character seems rather interesting. However the cynic in me doesn't like some of the other aspects:
Some of the UI seems rather pointless and huge, seeming rather "console-y". Do I really need a circle to tell me where I'm aiming? The postion of my arm should be enough.
Killstreaks. I seriously pray that they're not going to have an affect on the gameplay since I'm of the opinion that they're one of the most stupid aspects of modern gaming.
Regenerating Health and Ammo. Health could almost be forgiven but ammo just seems stupid. Ammo should have to be looted from either bodies or from your own/enemies' base. I believe also from that TB video that once his shield was broken it also regenerated after a while which was rather strange indeed.
Perks. Not a massive fan of these since toften he right combination usually out-class the other choices, foring pretty static load-outs for the majority.

It looks interesting but this looks like something I'll skip over and just hold out untill Mount and Blade II.

I tried the whole trading thing and its really not all that interesting. Prices seem to remain stactic so there will be 1 or 2 main routes you'll take and the only real danger will be bandits or deserters who can be mopped up extremely easily with a few horseman mercs.

Farming tounrys and freelancing gives you much more income and you won't have to dedicate points to the more passive skills. Reknown, reputation and relations are worth more than any amount of gold.

I forgot to mention the main reason why you should buy the game.

There's a custom battle mode and tutorial. You can also run an offline multiplayer game with bots, apart from that nothing. Flyingfox Software said they are considering adding a single player campaign if they can get around to it, but it really doesn't seem likely to me.

As for the servers, I honestly don't know. Mount and Musket was quite popular and having an "offical" release of it would add more players. I forsee there being a decent amount of players for quite a while in North America and Europe but I really don't think the Oceania community will stay around for long  :-[.
As for the 10 dollars it's an extremely polished games and the devs seem very devoted. It's however purely multiplayer so you'll have to make your mind up if that's not enough.

Indie has become more of a genre thing rather than anything to do with publishers so the discussion is pretty moot in the end.  :)

Small nitpick but I don't think Mount and Blade truly counts as an Indie game since they were published by Paradox (although they're the closest to an "indie publisher" as you can get).

It's hard to say what "Indie Roguelike" to sugguest since they're all pretty much all indie developed. I would say Dungeons of Dredmor would be a great choice if you're looking for a nice graphical roguelike with full mouse support, it's still got a decent amount of depth but it's not stupidly over-complex.

I got it and it's quite fun. Suffered from a lack of Australian servers at launch (bastards didn't give us an offical server >_>) but there's now 2 or so fully populated servers.
Quite a good albeit slow game, feeling very different from the orginal Mount and Blade. Animations and uniforms are all extremely well done and it's extremely handsome looking for M&B.

The rockets, cannons, marching bands and constructions all bring much more depth to the game offering a varity of different play styles. It seems there might be a tad of a balance issue with ranker's bayonets, they outclass all other melee weapons in both range and damage. Horsemen, lancers in paticular, seem extremely pointless and can easily be killed by a single ranker with a bayonet.

I found the most fun to be had in playing in a public server where it's pure chaos while playing as a Russian "Partisan" (basically a conscripted serf). Partisans spawn with random collection of "everyday" weapons like hoes, sickles and bottles. Massive amounts of giggles to be had throwing a bottle at someones face, stabbing a pitchfork through his stomach and looting his gun. :D

I also had the liberty of being in a public line battle hosted by one of the "clans" that owned the server. It's quite fun marching in a line and releasing a deadly volley of death before crouching under an entrenchment and praying to a god you don't believe in that a stray musket-ball doesn't find your head. A full bayonet charge is also a sight to behold.

I had the same problem but I found a couple back ups that seem to work.

If I didn't already have the majority of my collection of games on Steam, I know where I would be heading.

When I think about or watch Star Wars, I become increasingly convinced that Star Wars was actually never any good.
The series consists of 2.3 good movies and 3 semi-decent games. Everything else you've seen or heard is a lie.

Kooky is a feature length movie. It seems like the indie bundles are all moving away from just selling games alone.

Decided I'll buy it on an impulse. I spent 10 dollars getting into a nightclub last night which only served to remind me how much I hate clubbing (seals excluded). I assume I'll get more enjoyment out of this 10 dollar investment.

I'll update this post with some feedback once I've played around for a bit.

So it seems I can't connect to the multiplayer servers for some reason. I think I'll blame Steam for this.

Played around with the off-line multiplayer. Seems alright. The factions are all well done and the uniforms are very nice. I found it hilarious you could play as a conscripted Russian serf.
Frame-rate seems to chug quite a bit though, it seems to be from the musket smoke.

MP still doesn't work. Seems like a common problem and support still haven't found a fix.

It seems to be multiplayer only. There's apparently a tutorial and custom battles but that's about it.
From what I read the multiplayer seems to be fairly well done. Shame I'm tending to shy away from multiplayer games these days, not sure if it's something I'd enjoy.
