DF Suggestions / Re: Multiplayer
« on: July 21, 2011, 12:42:49 am »
I supose when we start getting random cultural variations of races in game we could trade them to each other.

Kinda like spore you'd get your legends updated with a "country from beyond the seas" with their own legends and such.
Then you could even get sea traders from their civ with their various cultural crafts and trends. One could even have mercs sitting in taverns that are generated using that civ's cultural trends which could be hired in adventure mode.

Would make the world seem much much larger and have some form of multiplayer everyone always seem to be asking for.

I'm a trapper/sniper.

I enjoy narrow bridges across pits with marksdwarf putting pressure on anyone trying to cross. It seems a little less "cheaty" than using straight out traps or setting up a pit with weapon traps.

Hells yeah. Just won an uncensored Left 4 Dead 2.

Also currently signing up is disabled but I'm fairly sure it will be coming back, so if you got any invites and you haven't signed up it would be best to horde them.

Brytenwalda has it's interesting parts but it's still very flawed.

I love the setting and the size of the world was good.
However the crappy english, the combat and the way the game handels the different tribes/clans/kingdoms really bugged me.

The combat tried to use dark ages weaponry which really didn't work for me. A large chunk of the army was made up of polearms and shields which the AI had no idea what so ever how to control. The AI would attempt to "hug" you with the polearms and they'd do no damage leaving you to carve them up with what ever.
I found the game pretty easy if you go the Irish who are defended from most of the invading clans and have (i believe) the best horsemen.

The way the clans worked was an abomination. I enjoyed the way the kingdoms were sperated into clans that would always be fighting amonst themselves. however, Unless you study the history you had no idea which clan belonged to which kingdom.
The travel map could have fixed that by having borders drawn on the map that clearly showed "Pictland", "Ireland" or what ever. They didn't even try to make the kingdoms the same colour either. So you're thrown into this multicoloured haze of different clans battling it out not knowing for certain if the next village will have your troops or if you're attacking your own kingdom.

The game did allow for a lot of great roleplaying. I found myself uniting Ireland under a single king to keep the country from being taken over. I found myself playing a Welsh bandit pillaging and attempting to convert people to paganism.

In short a terrific concept left down by some terrible decisions by the developers.

http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/fflbu/metro-2033/page5

With 5 hours to go it has around 970 entries. A single game.
Wouldn't suprise me if it hits 1000 by the end.

There are also 49 comments which if assuming they're all different people means 49 people bothered to thank the uploader.

The times: they're a-changin'

Not sure if that interests anyone here or not.

Also; by god the community has grown a lot. You're now looking at 900+ for some of the more popular games. Sadly the rate of giveaways has not increased with population, though you can't say this was hardly expected.

I was looking at Universe at War and it looks fairly interesting ... then I saw it uses Games for Windows Live.

No sale.

It seems to have a real problem with sequels.
Tried S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky and all the Stalker games were related to Far Cry and not each other!
Also tried Half-life 2 and unless I'm reading it wrong it states Left 4 Dead is linked closer to HL2 than Half-Life 2: Ep. 2

So how does this work anyway, is it all submitted or does it search for related games? If it is the former it could benefit a lot by having it open to the community so they can edit which games are the closest to each other.

One last thing, why can I move the boxes around? Is there a point to that or is it just left over script?

Decided to test out the game. Just entered as Catastrophiclolcats.
My first act was to push the wrong button, attack an npc and be chased around for 20 minutes while the other players watch me.

Managed to lose her outside town... she's just standing there ... watching me... :S

I've been playing through Amnesia and so far I've enjoyed Penumbra a lot more.
I think I just prefer the atmosphere and storyline of Penumbra better.

A note from a dead father to venture into some artic bunker to find out the secrets going on there versus waking up in a Prussian castle with a sore head and no real idea of progression.

Overture, which I thought was the strongest of the Penumbra series, did a better job of making you feel isolated. The notes have no voice overs like Amnesia and the only other person in the game is a crazed pscyopath. Which without spoilers has one of the best endings I've seen.
Shame it started to decline in quality after overture a bit. I was one of the few people who acutally liked the melee "combat" in overture and was sad to see it go. The third installment was just terrible, seemed like the devs played way too much portal.

There aren't too many games that scare me. Most games idea of horror is to have monsters jump out of the shadows and shriek while you mow them down with your lead spitting gun-metal-gray errection.

I did find the orginal Alien Versus Predator to be terrifying, mostly because I was like 7 years old when I played it.
Could not get past the second predator/marine levels because thats when they'll release the facehuggers onto you.
God I hated those so much.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. had it's times but I much prefer the game when it had the depressing atmosphere rather than when they try to go for the all out horror feel of the tunnels. The two do juxtapostion eachother nicely and helps to break up the gameplay a bit.

Nope.
According to the forums the engine doesn't even support macs.

Well theres the obvious problem of everyone wanting to leech and not giveaway games which will just be worse with more population.

However I guess the real point of the site is not to win something or even have a decent chance of winning things, it's to have that warm fuzzy feeling that you've gave something away.

It would be nice to see some sort of bonus for people who give away games, however. Not just because I'm a giveraway-er but so theres more insentive for people to put games up.

I'd be honest that if I see my gift won by someone who's put gifts up themselves I'll feel even better. It's always nice to see people doing nice things rewarded.

Shame because I've got another giveaway to do.

Just got my interwebz upcapped. Downloading it now.

Thinking about making my first guy a "Battlemage" off the first page with the other two skills in stealth
In theory this would sound pretty decent for both pvp and pvm. I

won't mind an invite to the clan, it's been a while since I've played a mmorpg and will need help in some parts.
I'll post up when I manage to get into the game.

So after playing the three different games and various different mods I can say that Mount and Blade has the combat down.
Thats pretty much all the game has. Which is okay, the game does get driven by the combat but it does hold it back from being god's gift to gamers.

Assuming that theres going to be a Mount and Blade heres some features I would add.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyway the majority of those features are a pipedream but I can't help but hope the game does see more features.
All the various mods start to feel the same with different weapons and armour after a while.
