DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Above Ground Fortress Plan?

Ok, so I'm planning on building an entirely aboveground fortress, out of glass and clay, ideally near a volcano. I'm just trying to decide what sections I should divide my town into, and what should be in each section?
Just curious for peoples ideas!  :D

So far I'm thinking:

Wall + Moat + Drawbridge!

Royal Quarter:
Nobles Housing
Fortress Guard
Jail
Emergency Shelter<

Living Quarter:
Dining Hall
Gardens + Statues
Houses for normal dwarves
Hospital<

Trade Quarter:
Trade Depot
Shops
Traders House
Crafts Workshops + Stockpiles

Food Quarter:
Farms, Inside and Out
Workshops
Pasture<

Religious Quarter:
Temple to each God

Wells and Mist Generators at various places!

Just wondering what else other people think I should include? And in what section?
I know I've got more than 4 Quarters too  :P

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Bone Clothing?

Just a quick question;

I had a dwarf make a bone shield during a strange mood, which is undoubtably dwarfy, and material doesn't effect shields as much so it is made all the better.

Is the dwarf able to make literally ANYTHING from the bones? For example, a bone robe? Has anyone got bone clothing? Or metal clothing, because I'd guess if you can make metal clothes (not spoilermetal) then bone clothes might work?

Well, I started a fort with the intention of following it from the perspective of the Doctor, but after all the updates I abandoned said fort.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A question about Volcanos

I managed to generate a satisfying amount of volcanos, with the necessary sand and ice that I wanted, but I have found that every volcano I have used extends stupid amounts of Z levels into the sky, keeping exactly the same shape, often towering well over nearby mountains/hills, with perfectly shear sides.
It is ok... but I don't like the feel of them, they're not very realistic!
Any idea how to stop volcanos extending so far into the sky? Or, if not, how to generate a good amount of surface magma some other way?
OR! If all else fails, how to bring the magma sea closer!

Hey, after being inspired by a post I read earlier, I was wondering how I would go about generating a world giving me the best chance of getting a volcano, ice and sand on a 2x2 embark?
So far I have managed to get a volcano and sand, on a 2x2, though I think I put too many megabeasts, as ALL civs were wiped out...
But I'm new at thie world gen parameters stuff so I was hoping someone could save me some trial and error time?
