DF General Discussion / Re: What dorf would you be?
« on: July 01, 2010, 09:38:39 am »
Well, I'm an avid martial artist, including a second degree black belt and 13 years of hopping between styles at random. I'm a Nidan in Ninjutsu, an instructor in Muay Thai and Savate/Kickboxing. I also studied Kendo and Iaido. I'm not bad with a bow and arrow, although I've never fired a crossbow. Aside from cooking and brewing, I'm really not good for much else in the way of DF skills.

So..I guess that makes me a combo Swordsdorf/Wrestler/Fighter?

I think the word you're looking for is Elf

Sure, I'd be an Elf, except that I'm a short, fat, hairy guy with a fondness for rum, soap, and steel. And I can't eat most plants, due to an inability to digest complex fiber. And I do my best to stay indoors whenever possible because I detest insects.

Yarn, being our Marksdwarf, will be renamed Urist McSneakyTux. As Always will be our Urist McGadgeteer, because of his skill with metals. Quantum Toast gets the role of Urist McBigBad. Murphy will be Urist McMadScientist (dealing with kids will do that to you.) I'll lead a rag-tag militia to their doom as we distract Quantum and Murphy from unleashing the laser sharks and zombie craftsdwarves on the world, and then we all get to have popcorn while we watch Yarn save...huh. I haven't figured that one out. Who wants to be the damsel with the full, lush beard?

All I've managed to do in that regard is turn a mood off without the dorf in question going mad. I'm not losing my expert swordsdwarf because we don't have any silk.

I'm going to verify that it does work with Phoebus' pack.

Congrats on the job, man. As for Runesmith, we'll take what we can get, when we can get it. We all know that you're working for gratitude on that, and money goes a lot farther than gratitude.

If you wanted to run a solo, you could just use Runesmith to erase the other 6 dorfs from existence before you unpause the game for the first time...

This has been really fun to watch grow into something awesome. Hopefully it's been as fun for you, sizeak, as it has been for us. Would it be wrong of me to say that I love you?

I can't believe I just found this, considering I'm the one who started the derail on the Runesmith thread. Thanks a bunch! Now I can start back up my mega-awesome fun for the whole family and all their friends game!

sizeak's Runesmith: We do what we must, because, it's fun.

Oddly, that fits the tune if you sing it out loud.

Edit: Also, I thought I saw something about different castes per gender in [CREATURE:DWARF] in the raw/objects/creature_standard file, but I wasn't sure what it meant, because I are noob. So, you're probably right about that.

I will see if I can't find a C for Dummies handbook or something. Sounds good.

One quick thought just popped up: Will a dwarf so changed be able to get pregnant and bear children?

I didn't think I'd ever say this, but it looks like I have even MORE of a reason to play this game. For !!SCIENCE!!

What's that, Zauren? Timmy and his friend Billy both fell down the well? Ah, hell, we'll get there eventually. :P

The time I spent in NY was full of rude people, racists and people who collected both guns and money. Of course, I lived over toward Syracuse, too, and spent much of my time in a rural area. Never went to NYC, and never want to go. Upstate was bad enough.

Oh, and both winters I spent there, we got over 200 inches of snow. Good times.

Is it just me, or does changing a gender only sort of work? I changed a male dorf into a woman, but that dorf still went on to bed down a woman. Also, Dwarf Therapist still sorts them by their original gender, even after restarting the program.

I feel like I'm doing a lot of complaining and nothing to help. I just want you to know, sizeak, that I really appreciate this tool, and it's an awesome thing you've brought to life. Between Runesmith and DF, it's inspired me to go into programming, so long as there's a "Programming for noobz" class.

I prefer Indiana to Ohio for fireworks. That could have something to do with me living closer to IN, though.

I love this program, however there is one thing that i want to know... where is that ability for my dwarfs to understand relationships, as I maxed out all attributes and skills, yet I still got this problem where they have a poor ability to understand relationships or manage it...

Did you do any monkeying with the "Traits" tab? I'm not sure that that's there, but it's a place to start looking...
