Dig deep and find all the cool stuff down there. Avoid spoilers; it's much more fun to discover it all on your own.

Again - should be a briefly mentioned curiosity compared to the other shit a responsible media would be getting on politicians' cases for.

The South doesn't want to secede from the Union, despite what some people usually think.

I don't think they do either, and they probably won't within 100 years, but if I had to pick a most-likely-to-secede, it would be the ex-Confederacy.

@SalmonGod: Huh? As in, we're a third world country but there's a small population of obscenely wealthy people? Or as in, we're a third world country but most of the population is comparatively obscenely wealthy? Because our poor people ARE obscenely wealthy by world standards, but I'm not sure where the third world country comes in.

I still don't get why if Bill Clinton banging at least one intern wasn't enough for him to be kicked out of a far more important job, why this guy's internet shenanigans mean he should resign from a much less responsible job.

Really it just pisses me off when the media seizes on some more or less arbitrary story and beats it to death while things that actually matter get ignored more and more. If they can harass somebody into taking a leave of absence and resignation (which I'm sure is going to follow from this) then imagine what they could do to people found guilty of corruption, lying to constituents, and so on. But they don't because, of course, lurid scandals mean money and money trumps everyone's sense of journalistic integrity and sense of being a responsible adult, apparently. This is the fucking politics equivalent of Balloon Boy.

The only important thing for self-sufficiency is getting farms and brewing up. Rather than waste time building a pump and reservoir system I usually just dig straight for the caves, wall off a section in there and start farming on the mud, which doesn't need to be wet to farm on. Since there's usually water in the caves also, I can get a well going too. From there you're more or less self-sufficient and can address whatever other priorities you want.

Nobody thinks roughly the same set of southern states might try to secede again over basically the same issue (federal control?) I mean yeah they got schooled before, but Confederate flags are still flying. Another few liberal black presidents and we might just have ourselves Round 2.

Does anybody think there's a significant chance in the next 100 years of a sizeable chunk of the USA seceding?

I say sizeable because only a very sizeable chunk would in fact be capable of pulling it off.

I don't really, but you never know with these things.

What the hell is up with Gary Busey? I'm pretty pop-culturally oblivious and I don't even know who he is.

I just watched "Super Size Me."

Question for the thread: Should horrifically unhealthy foods be treated the same as tobacco?

The Onion claims another victim.
Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrr...

I didn't even notice it was The Onion. Bay12 gets all of the good news, so I didn't even think to look at the source.

xD

Oh come on, somebody even covered for you BEFORE you replied, you could have just agreed with his post...

Tom Ridge, who's now a "I'm-not-a-lobbyist" for natural gas, was just on Colbert insisting that fracking is absolutely harmless and nobody should worry about it. That made me think I should be really, really worried about it.

Maybe this is completely normal, but I just had a FB that was a giant winged humanoid made of steam. It headed straight for a couple of snakemen that have been chilling in my cavern, and got slaughtered by them.

If you're complaining about people being sensitive about sex, well, welcome to the human race.

But like I said before, this isn't news unless he broke a law. If he's doing his job as mandated by voters, then that's all we should care about. And I fucking despise the media for being incapable of using judgment, like grownups, to distinguish between important, relevant stories and fucking tabloid celebrity-gossip material that barely disguises a juvenile fascination with toilet humor. Is there not something going on with, say one of the two wars that we're in that wouldn't merit more screen time than somebody's damn dick? And as I also said before, if we're going to harp on and on about something bad that a politician did, how is corruption not more important than this?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Bins not available to move to depot?
« on: June 11, 2011, 09:30:44 am »

What distance does it show for the bins you can't select?  Are you sure those bins belong to your fort and not the caravan you are wanting to trade with? (Not that I've ever seen the caravan contents when I'm selecting stuff to move, but its a possibility.)

It does not show a distance because the bins aren't on the menu.

What do you mean "toggle 'm' culling on mandates?"
