If you aren't willing to "appease" people you don't like, you won't get very far in life. Just saying.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised to see some countries with more active regulatory governments than the US's, start to ban outlets like Fox News from calling their sensationalist circus-crap "news." Surprised, nor sorry.

Like somebody said, if he's doing his job, I really don't give a shit how sleazy he is. What's worse, sending a few dick pix or being in the pocket of huge, exploitative corporations that are fucking your constituents, or enthusiastically slashing social programs and education budgets that serve your very own damn constituents?

Now that I've learned (some of) the women were political supporters, I'm less inclined to assume he was just chatting up random cam-whores. Of course, that's still possible. And in that case, it's inevitable that some of them were dudes. Old wrinkly dudes. I give it two weeks until an old wrinkly dude comes out with new pix and reveals that he was one of the recipients.

Anyway, this is now old news and once again, it's a sad reflection on both the media and the public's dumb asses that it's still being talked about, not to mention that not once has anybody brought up, as mentioned, his voting record and whether he's serving his constituents.

Reading "Nonzero" by Robert Wright, about how non-zero-sum logic has given human history a general direction.

I want to read....I dunno, whatever I come across next.

I never claimed that since people don't want to pay taxes, the government should fire everyone. What I was getting at instead is that "scroogy bastards" are a side-effect of the fact that people want to get the best deal. There are maybe some people that go too far and therefor it's not a good idea to listen to the vocal "majority". But if enough people always take the cheapest cucumber then that's a good reason to look for a way to make your cucumbers cheaper or you need to make your cucumbers stand out in another way, because people still buy gaming computes even though a netbook is way cheaper.

Funny you should mention gaming computers. I bought a gaming lappy and it died 13 months (12 month warranty) after purchase.

As for firing government employees: I live in Ohio, it's all the rage now: Check out the embedded video:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/03/31/national/main20049481.shtml

He's absolutely right. Um, the entire GOP and republican state governors are firing the crap out of people: police, firemen, teachers, yeah.

It is not currently a side effect, it's the norm. It's a problem. We're firing police officers? WTF? We never used to do that. Because apparently people won't commit crimes in a recession? Look at the campaign promises in those videos. People elected these politicians on that crap. No no, these are the people in power backed by a MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION WHO ELECTED THEM!

Yeah, in Pennsylvania, our wonderful Republican governor, elected by the rednecks that inhabit most of the state that isn't Philly or Pittsburgh, is slashing the hell out of education budgets, just what the poor kids of Philadelphia need right? I have no idea how these people think the future is going to look. Of course, they're not the ones that'll have to deal with the kids of 10 years from now who have no prospects thanks to growing up in the ghetto and having their entire education having been a joke, so what do they care?

General Discussion / Re: Flash Crime
« on: June 08, 2011, 03:20:24 pm »
"Flash mobs" already became synonymous with crime in Philly last year, when shitloads of retarded teenagers would use internets to appear at some random subway stop or intersection, run down the street smashing stuff, and then disperse. It's pretty inevitable technology is used for crime, but the question is more, is the ability to easily create a group of random antisocial troublemakers actually going to cause more people to join in just for shits and giggles and mob mentality? I have no clue.

Can the phrase "junkshot tomfoolery" become widespread please?

Anyway, to me, the fact that he was dumb enough to publicly post the picture on Twitter would be a way bigger red flag than the fact of trying to send dick pix to internet women (or "women") in the first place. (Somewhere, a crusty 60 year old man was already wanking to whatever other Weiner pix he had received).

As for it being used by Republicans...I'm sure it will be brought up by radio commentators and Fox News, but it would be idiotic for them to make too much of a thing about it, considering the number of holier-than-thou Republicans who have been caught doing things considerably more out-of-bounds than internet flirtations with adult women. I think both parties know they have enough mud to be slung at them that they don't want to go down that road. It's just funnier when a Republican does it because it's usually so much more hypocritical.

Dueling church billboards.
Bahahahhahahaha. Hilarious, even if there's no way it's real.

Anyway, today I looked for seasonal park jobs in Utah and other western states because I really want to go there. But I also got another confirmation from a job here that I will probably get it (apparently it's taking a long time because of bureaucracy and such) which is obviously good but man, I really want to go out west.

To go back to weapons for a second, is there anything that can make spears good? If it's made from adamantine, would that make it good enough to pierce through most armors?

DF Community Games & Stories / Re: Boatmurdered - The Animation

I really hope this eventually happens. What I especially love about Boatmurdered is that, to an outsider, it must look like some kind of horrific Mordor-like place, surely the den of a megalomaniacal evil overlord. The whole landscape is desolate from the lava that repeatedly gets dumped onto it! But no, there's no evil overlord, just a bunch of drunken, psychotic bearded midgets scrambling to keep elephant invasions at bay and with no real sense of what the hell their purpose in the world is.

Just build and engrave a large dining room; it will keep most dwarves happy even if their entire family gets eaten by a flying blob of vomit.

I'm playing right now in a cold biome, on the border between a savanna or shrubland and a high mountain range. The ground is littered with murky pools which stay frozen year round. But it rains most of the year except the dead of winter - but even while rain is falling from the sky for 10-11 months, the ice does not thaw. What's up with that? Is it normal?
