Life Advice / Re: So I've just decided to join the 5km cross country race
« on: October 02, 2011, 10:08:25 pm »
I'm currently in 12th grade and in my last practice run, I finished the course in 17:42. (the exact course distance might be a bit off from 5 km since it's cross country after all)

So I assume getting the course done in 17 minutes would make for a good goal?
And to Barbarossa TSG, mind if I ask how tall and heavy you are?

What would be a good time to aim for while training?

Do Gifs work?
Spent 40 minutes each on both of those during lunch break

Life Advice / So I've just decided to join the 5km cross country race

And I feel nervous as hell.

Coach says competition is between our team of 2 guys 2 girls against small teams of people from at least a dozen other schools.
I'm kind of a small guy (1.71 meters or ~68 inches), and well I just don't really know what to do.

I'm able to run the entire distance down without stopping (sorta), but I don't feel very fast.
And I get an aching feel that once I start the race, I'm just going to lag behind everyone and finish last.

Sometimes I dream of myself in the race, panting, sweating, and with everyone passing by me and eventually disappearing into the horizon while I crawl on alone...
I guess it's more of a psychological problem than a physical problem though, but I just can't seem to calm down.

It's my first semi-formal race, so I guess it should be normal, but I still can't take my mind off of it.
Anyone know good ways to relax?

While reading all of the posts above, I just kept on thinking:

Well why not let the player himself choose the story outcome?

Different endings can come out depending on the choices the player made earlier.

It makes the player feel as if he's more in "control" of the game, and it also gives the game more replay value.

Just my thoughts.

good luck eh?

Whoever's going next will surely need it.

Even with all the water pressure in the world, without traps, spikes, or a decent height fall at the end, it wont do much other than just slosh around eveything

If I ever get another turn, (not that I really want one right now though, just dreaming of stuff) I would like to do a megaproject where I would cover the surface world in a sea of lava (with walls at the edges to prevent magma loss).
The entire dwarf population will live safe beneath the ground while everything else will roast on the surface.
The hilly nature of the landscape might make things a bit trickier, but with enough miners and masons, it shouldn't be too hard.

It would almost be as if the world were to be flipped upside down with hell at the top and civilization at the bottom.

Just so long as you remember to do what's on that little "note" I left you.

DF Suggestions / Re: Favorite Labors

I like this idea, and in a sense, it's already implemented into the game somewhat.

Some dwarves like helping others (can't remember the exact text for that dwarf preference, but the meaning's the same.)
A dwarf who likes helping others will be more likely to bring in an injured dwarf as well as getting a happiness bonus for doing so.

Dwarves who don't like helping others are the opposite.

I really like your update style.
A very effective combination of both words and pictures.

And you use ASCII (which is awesome btw).
The over-detailed tilesets that everyone else likes to use are nice, but they never seem to really get to me.

Phoebus graphics set. (I think that's how you spell it)
I personally don't use them, although quite a few others do and they find it quite nice.
