DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Do dwarves dream?

Lol, so it was a bug. And I thought it was some sort of hidden dream mechanic which only occurred after an unconscious dwarf had just received trauma.

It's like my old sensei used to say when I was learning Dwarf Fortress.

"Everything can be solved by magma"

"But sensei! my dwarves are burning alive and it's barely even hurting the Zombie hordes!"

"SILENCE! you are not using enough magma."

hello new signature

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Do dwarves dream?
« on: August 05, 2010, 02:37:53 am »
It wasn't too long ago when my fort of 7 just had an ogre attack.
Although my dwarves took care of the ogres pretty easily, one of them was heavily wounded.
Don't have a pick of this, but the injured dwarf was named Kubuk Shederal, mason and is currently in extreme pain with a broken left lower leg. The dwarf is unconcious, and even though all the ogres are dead, I'm still getting spam messages of mason cancels rest: interrupted by Ogre.

So the only logical opinion I can think of for the cause of this is that my little mason is hallucinating and having nightmares about the ogres that attacked her.

So anyone else have the same experience?

Build a bridge outside the door. Then, when Ogres show up, raise the bridge. I believe raised bridges are immune to building destroyers if you feel exploity, or if you care to put a little effort into it you could build a moat.
bridge/moat might be a bit tough since the entire underground is already occupied by farmland and storage area.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Blood

I once saw a dwarf spill water on a pool of blood in an attempt to clean it. It only ended up spreading all over the room after the horde of wardogs trudged all over it.

Why the hell did you build a door?
cuz bridges don't block out the harpies which I've been getting the whole time beforehand.

edit:

Success!

DF Gameplay Questions / miner drops pick during combat
« on: August 04, 2010, 07:29:26 am »
When I order my miner to attack a nearby troglodyte, he drops his pick somewhere safe before going into the fray trying to wrestle the creature to death. When I order my woodcutter to chop down some harpies, he throws his axe aside before attempting to grab onto their feathers.

I cannot equip the pick/axe to the respectful dwarves since they are already holding onto them, but when combat ensues, they just drop their weapons.
Any way around this other than NOT having them fight in the militia?
