DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Do you lock yourself in?
« on: September 06, 2011, 02:24:38 am »
I'm sure toady will implement real sieges with siege engines capable of tearing down walls and the like. I hope so anyway.
Until something like that is implemented, I do consider walling off a form of cheating. If you use it to stop ambushes that seems reasonable, but a siege should be able to attack your fortress no matter what.
I wouldn't say it's as bad as danger rooms, wich I consider a terrible exploit, but definatly not a very dwarven thing to do.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Cancellation spam: clay vanished
« on: September 05, 2011, 07:15:18 am »
I've made a habit of leaving a single piece of !!lignite!! if available near my clay gathering zone. It only requires a new piece every year or so and it'll keep the moss away well enough.

Of course if you try that just be sure not to play with fire and keep it contained to where it's needed.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Padding under armour?
« on: September 01, 2011, 04:45:00 am »
Yes they can, but I think it's important to note there's a difference between leather clothes and leather armor, leather clothes under armor should be no problem, but I don't know to what extent you can layer leather armor under metal armor.
That said leather clothes should offer some extra protection as well, but honestly if an attack manages to get through metal armor I'm not sure of leather will offer much resistance after that.

It's going to take a very very long time, but it should not pose a problem. I think the stuff doesn't rot when being processed.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Choosing Baron based on more than name?
« on: September 01, 2011, 04:36:56 am »
I think he'll make the offer again next meeting, but don't take my word on it.
You should note down the name of the dwarf you think is fit for royalty, it's a pain that the list only shows you the names rather then important information.

Life Advice / Re: I am fucking sick of life.
« on: August 31, 2011, 12:34:18 pm »
Aw man that's terrible, I'm not even sure if you're being serious here or not.

I mean you are either one hardcore troll or you've really just made a bad situation in your life a whole lot worse, judging by your last topic.
In fact, I'm having a hard time believing you could have done such a thing and sit behind your computer and type it afterwards. I would think anyone who had such an outburst would seek help on that matter at once, ifyou at least don't hate your mother, and especially since you asked for advice on any help with your problem not to long ago.

Fair enough I think most can fall victim to an outburst of agression, I've had plenty of occasions where I felt the urge to just jam a knife in someones guts for mistreating fellow human beings, but at least I am rational enough to realize such a thought is completely blown out of proportions most of the times and I would never think of harming someone innocent.

So I just need to say, and I probably shouldn't as I'm judging and the least you need right now is judgement, but I can't help myself when I say I find you are extremely selfish. Stating that you are sick of life and want to take yours but making those arround suffer as you squander your life and pull others down with you in your misery, I'm sorry but I find that many times worse then the worst I can imagine bullies and assholes did to you to give you this outlook.

That said, find help. No matter what it is if you're going to remain as you are and your agression becomes worse then you need to be helped.
At this point I think that either ending it or getting your problem solved is a better solution then staying as you are and eventually becoming a danger to everyone around you.
And I already said how stupid it would be to end it, so that leaves one sensible solution.

And if you come to your senses, apolagize to your mother.

Are the dwarves per chance stuck in a loop of dropping and equiping gear in their uniform that contradicts one another? I've had it happen that someone in the military was continuisly looping through removing their breaqtplate, equiping a mail shirt, removing their mail shirt and equiping the breastplate etc, when they apparently ran out of equipment space.
Try disabling wear uniform over clothes, see if that fixes anything.

I don't know what to say. I tried figuring out what it is that you've done, but I keep getting distracted by the thought of to what end.
But then I guess in some cases science isn't about why, but why not!  8)

General Discussion / Re: MSPA Homestuck: why are you even posting
« on: August 28, 2011, 01:32:34 pm »
Okay, this thread made me curious about these MSP adventures, as I had never heard of these things before, so I gave this Homstuck adventure a look.

First I was like....the fuck am I watching and reading? Who follows this nonsense or hell who writes this stuff.
Then I kept reading, and reading and reading.
And now I find myself several days later and many hours spent reading in disabelief that I just read all of that stuff.
All of it, and I'm still not sure wtf I just read.  :o 't was a good waste of time though, so random it's impossible to get bored by predictability.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: I need help on Everything
« on: August 27, 2011, 04:49:29 pm »
Well you've already masterted the art of making useless buildings, so there's something you're good at. Truly there is no greater goal then making a whole lot of useless buildings.

Anyway, everything is a lot to need help with, your best bet is to consult the wiki (mentioned the post above), follow a tutorial if you're new to the game or ask a more specific question.

But these buildings I asume they are rooms you dug out? Not sure how you could trap your dwarves in there unless you had a way in and removed it. It's hard to say without any more information.
Off the top of my head the problems I can picture could be solved by things like removing a wall you built with the remove construction designation, building a new staircase or carving out a new one, building a wall next to a ramp you may have been using and lastly building a brdige or floor over any gaps you may have unintentionally made at an acces point.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: caverns being weird...
« on: August 26, 2011, 04:56:14 am »
Given the situation you described, your cavern with magma pipe in it can be either cavern layer 2 or 3, and the above one 1 or 2. There may be a cavern below the brown one or one above the one above the brown one. I don't think you can have another cavern inbetween the two you've found, if there is indeed a passage between them.
Just keep digging near where you suspect anohter one is if you really want to know for sure, it's very easy to miss a layer when going straight down.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Textile Industry
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:02:29 am »
I never seem to get a good leather industry going, just to many beasts to slaughter for a little leather so can't ever truly mass produce.
I like harvesting silk though, it's pretty simple and just grabbing the stuff on the cavern floors can supply you for quite some time.

Not sure if there's a trick to succes, but I can advice getting some dye if you're going to be making cloth anyway. Also churn out a lot plants for cloth processing if  you're going for plant fiber, if you've grown to many you can turn them into booze anyway.
