I'm sure toady will implement real sieges with siege engines capable of tearing down walls and the like. I hope so anyway.
Until something like that is implemented, I do consider walling off a form of cheating. If you use it to stop ambushes that seems reasonable, but a siege should be able to attack your fortress no matter what.
I wouldn't say it's as bad as danger rooms, wich I consider a terrible exploit, but definatly not a very dwarven thing to do.

't was a good waste of time though, so random it's impossible to get bored by predictability.
