Other Games / Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (New by Firaxis)

Finally got to playing this game, been looking forward to it after hearing so much about it.

I'm loving the setting so far, love turn based strategy gameplay as well.
Only....this game really does have a lot of RNG doesn't it. Pretty much all actions I've done asides from point blank shots and grenades seem to be heavily decided by chance. I really do detest excessive RNG...
Does the randomness get better after a while or am I, shall we say, out of luck?

Alright I normally don't post around these parts, but I'm just feeling so rageful I need to vent this somewhere!

So it's snowy today, getting to class this morning was particularly troublesome given how traffic is pretty horrible even when the roads aren't as slippery. But okay just woke an hour earlier to be sure I got to class safe and sound.
I should mention I've been pretty fatigued lately, what with a project taking up way more time then it should have, and having prepared for a rather large test yesterday. But okay I'm in class now, I'll get some rest this weekend.

So I'm in class, everyone who bothered to come is here so is the lector. Only for some god forsaken reason the lector decided just like that she doesn't feel like teaching right now. Just like that, doesn't even bother to announce anything, just stops by then leaves for a full half hour, then comes back for her stuff. Argh!

Alright no biggy I'll just work on that project a bit more. I'm a bit short on time anyway may as well do something productive. Only problem judging by the loud chatter you'd say this place sounds more like a marketplace. Making things worse some students feel the need to play their music for the entire classroom, in full cacaphony. Have I mentioned I like peace and quiet when I work?

DAMN YOU HAIRLESS MONKEYS SOMEONE IS ACTUALLY TRYING TO WORK!

Life Advice / Re: Dealing with self-loathing?
« on: December 06, 2012, 03:28:19 am »
I'm curious as to the source of this self-loating. Do you think this tought pattern gets initiated by people around you, or wether you alone start this vicious cycle.

If the case is the former I would suggest finding willpower in the goal of proving those who doubt you wrong. Your father has disowed you you say? Prove how erronous he was, don't try to make hm or anyone proud, show  that their disapointment in you is their mistake, just do not prove them right!

If the latter I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you. The only thing I can suggest is to find someone to help you break the cycle, or as someone has suggested maybe do some volunteer work to kickstart the process.

Life Advice / Re: dyslexia?
« on: December 06, 2012, 03:04:42 am »
Well personally I've alwayd had some difficulty reading an analog clock, but I figure that's just because I keep forgetting wich arm is wich. That's not dyslexia is it?

It's never really been a concern of mine mind you, but I am somewhat suspicious of it sometimes.
I've never really been much of a talker, and when I feel I am mentally taxed with to much conversation I may begin to stutter and get stressed.
I can multitask fine, except when talking wich seems to demand every bit of my attention. During or shortly after mentally taxing exercises it's impossible for me to utter something coherent.
Are these symptons you think?

I've no problem at all with written language on the other hand, just oral communication.

General Discussion / Re: Web Comics: what are you reading?
« on: December 05, 2012, 10:31:03 am »
MSPA Homestuck for one, I'm sure it's well known around these parts. Not a fanatic but I do enjoy it a fair bit.

Other then that I really enjoy The Pocalypse. It's a flash webcomic with a new scene once or twice a week.
The setting is a post zombie-apocalytic world with fantasy elements, it features zombies, mutants, vampires, sentient plants and rogue machines.

I also find Antics far more funny then I probably should. Check it out if you like silly humor.

Romantically Apocalyptic is great to.
Think it's been mentioned already, just want to add it has some of the best art I've seen in webcomics.
Can't reallly comment on the story, I don't understand half of it most of the time, but I think that's normal.

Oh this thing, quite some time since I tried it. Had a chat if you can call it that, I'm under the impression that it converses even worse then so long ago. So much mindless dribble, I suppose it truly learned from the internet.

Here's me, trying to make some sense out of it...

Looks like the forums turned the url into an actual link, heh.

I've been playing this a bit, and I can't decide wich faction suits me best. Terrans aren't my cup of tea but I'm torn between either vanu or conglomerate.

I'm mostly into aerial combat, dogfights and stuff so I've been playing engineer a lot. Also long range combat and sabotage so I've played a fair bit of infiltrator.

So far I really like the punch the conglomerate guns pack but I detest the whole space cowboy theme, especially the bits of faction thematic musics.
I really like the vanu theme but I'm not sure I see the use of guns with no bullet drop. They don't seem to do much dmg long range wich is a problem for me.

Suggest me a course of action! Factions to specific weapon configurations, this noob needs some advice. :)

That's interesting, all this talk about FTL and sensors made me wonder how the lightwave equivalent of breaking the sound barrier would look like. Isn't it like infinite blue shift when you go at the speed of light, you'd produce lightwaves with infinitismal wavelength.

Hijack one of these FTL thingamajings and get as far away from the rest of humanity as possible on a habitable planet. Possibly take along a group of people I deem deserve better then humanity on earth can offer and build a new, better world on said planet.

Life Advice / Re: Meet me, a twat with low self-confidence.

Hello Sir TooShyToDoAnything.

I'd like to ask why it is you feel the need to compare yourself to this other person, the 'jesus' guy. Is it because you admire him, or perhaps envy him?
Do you feel you need to differentiate yourself from others, to have a unique persona; or maybe you thrive in the spotlight of attention? Because there is a very big difference between being yourself and trying to be someone popular.

And who am I to say wich you are, the two aren't mutually exclusive but I will say there is no need to try to be someone you're not to be popular. Who knows if you do maybe you'd be popular but it will be nothing but a facade.

In fact in my opinion, coming from someone who doesn't give a rats ass about popularity so take it with a grain of salt, people generally see through the whole tryhard cool kid attitude and people who act themselves tend to be more accepted, if perhaps outside the shallow cool guys clique.

Also lastly don't call yourself a twat. Maybe you are I dont know but you shouldn't define yourself by it, I'm sure there's far more to your personality so reflect it.

Math's just a language, one that allows models that don't neceseraly reflect reality. It's physics you need. I'm mostly curious as to how these scientists are doing their measurements rather then their theorizing.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a load of bullcrap? I don't know, maybe I should read up on this stuff, but the whole spacetime bending always sounded like nerdy fantasy to me.

Spend a silly amount of money for something that is likely to get you killed? Eh there's worse things to spend on, not that I could if I wanted to.  :(
