I still do that from time to time, even going so far as to call Crystal Maiden Rylai, the Shadow Blade Lothar's, Sheepstick as Guinsoo's, and so on.

I don't care if Blizzard has the trademarks; DotA ended up making more of a mark in my mind than most of Warcraft 3 did, various custom maps that I played and helped create aside. There was a Europa map that I assisted in making, having been a part of a clan who played that fairly often, with the map of Europe, and the top of Africa, a free for all and various countries having different special units (English longbows OP).

Now I'm waxing nostalgic for Heroes and Empires, as boring as it got when you got the hang of it (background: heroes were trivial against most enemies as long as you kept up with levelling, and empires were trivial against everything with the correct technology; either could solo the game on the hardest difficulty without much issue, but working together made it easier since empires had to wall themselves in for a while to start, and heroes, being mobile, could take out the spawning bases and quest markers more easily), and as laggy as the game could get due to the heavy scripting involved in determining housing space for tax income, I would love to try my hand at making something like that. I powered through that map a lot on the hardest difficulties, usually soloing (if you can call it that) the final boss in the bottom left corner... with atomic bombers. Heroes that attempted to betray me were brought a quick death, as they may take out a building or a few units before succumbing, but I had reserves, and they had limited lives.

I want a rebirth of all the old war3 maps through dota one day.

Valve released the alpha of the Dota 2 Workshop Tools today. They're pretty darn impressive, honestly. The tile editor reminds me a lot of Warcraft 3's World Editor, and the d2modd.in guys say that the tools allow for things on another level above warcraft's mapping scene. (Especially on the coding side of things; no more will save codes be 64 characters long, if even required!)

Well, I know what I'm doing this weekend: Attempting to learn how this works, as I was a decently competent mapmaker for Warcraft 3, and would love to "port" something like Island/Jungle/Ice Troll Tribes (Jungle was my personal favorite), Parasite, or something similar.

I think that's more in relation to the custom maps being completely and officially supported by Valve, rather than having to be run through a third party launcher.

Starcraft 2 never brought about the rebirth of custom mapping as much as I had hoped, partially due to the interface being clunky in comparison to Warcraft 3's (which is saying something, but WC3 was meant for hero units that gained levels and skill points in RPG style, while Starcraft 2 was more about mass combat with generic units), and partially due to Blizzard's policies surrounding the creation of custom maps. Essentially they surrounded all things related to making custom maps with legalese, and anything they felt was popular enough they could take control of, as they didn't want another DotA growing out of their engine that they couldn't control, with the original creator getting thrown to the wayside and having no say in the matter.

Nasus is a great champion, in my opinion, and his late game strength is heavily dependent on being able to farm effectively with your Q. Top lane, that means he's easily countered by any ranged character, and as a jungle, you're pretty much at the mercy of the enemy's counterjungle ability for the first five or six levels.

Champions that can outsustain him in jungle and still make it over to yours during your extremely slow early clear speed can make it a bit of a pain in the ass to keep playing, as being behind with Nasus ends up hurting twice as much, both via damage output with Q and by making you easy prey for ranged champions with lower defense than you may otherwise have.

That being said, once he gets rolling, all you need to do is build tanky items, and maybe something late game as a damage item to give your attacks that extra oomph. Boots of Swiftness are my preferred boots with the Alacrity enchantment, as he already moves fairly quickly, and this helps him catch up as well as move through the jungle that much faster, while somewhat mitigating his weakness to being kited.

I almost find Wither to be a defining skill moreso than his Q, as it slows the enemy to a crawl at later levels, and takes effect over a long time, giving plenty of opportunity to go up and smack them. His E is a farming skill for the build; nothing more, nothing less. It serves no purpose other than to enhance the damage of your Q further, and make early farming a bit less painful.

My preferred build is as follows:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Of course, it doesn't turn out like that every game, but it works well enough for me as a jungle. I haven't top laned as Nasus in a very long time, so I can't really say what works there. I think the semicarry potential of someone who, like Veigar, can one shot anything but a tank late game due to his scaling mechanics, has put me off of most other jungles, despite his early weaknesses and easy counterability.

In public games, you're unlikely to find someone who is able (or willing) to counter jungle, as most will tend to stick to their own areas until they get the level or skill that lets them gank, and they'll tend to leave you alone in the jungle. Security through obscurity; if they don't see you on the map, you might as well not exist until you actually become a threat.

I'd be down for an inhouse game, though my schedule varies. I'm generally on around 12:30-1am EST.

So is it just me, or it the server currently dead at the moment?

I was ghosting around last night to get an idea of the station layout, and it still appears to be the same exploded mess now as it was before.

Do you mean layout, or just that shit hit the fan in the round?
I think I may have been looking at the alternate server by mistake. Joining the main one seems to have a completely different layout on the "Setup Character" menu, so I'll see if people are on later tonight.

Interesting bug with Ability Draft on Broodmother... Tiny's Grow ultimate causes her character model to completely implode on itself. Originally when taking Grow, I didn't have any legs, but dying caused them to respawn, so I was originally just a little rock... thing.

Good thing Meepo ain't in AD anymore.
Yeah, there's a reason why he isn't. 4x nukes, or a ranged agility character with Skadi + Lifesteal x4, it just wasn't any fun as someone who has had to face it.

Number one! Are you semi decent at RP? IE, you can make a character and be able to roleplay them!
If I feel enough into a character, I can RP, though it's usually not my first method of playing a game. I was decent at it on HellMOO, enough to have some alts that nobody linked together, and have had some 3.5 and Pathfinder experience.

Number two! Are you coming into the game looking for combat or RP(Though this is less of a list thing and more of a 'what to expect')
I'm honestly not sure what to expect. It looks fun from what I've seen, and the roleplay sessions for Parasite and similar maps led to more fun than the combat, due to being able to play the devils advocate (while being the devil), point fingers, and generally screw around. Being as it appears text based, it seems it would be easier than face to face, and I know how to word things well enough.

Number three! If 'combat' is your answer, perhaps you could go to Goon. That place has more combat oriented things than us in terms of how often it occurs(Though I honestly don't experience the grieftacular fest that goon is)

Number three! If 'RP' is your answer, either stay here with us or go to Baystation as both of us are RP oriented(Though Baystation is moreso than us.)
By "Stay here with us" I presume you mean the server hosted in the original post, yes? What's the difference between that and Baystation?

Number four! Did you look at this list and look away because you answered wrong. If yes, try the game because you might like it :P

Fish.

I'll give it a shot, see if it tickles my fancy.

So I've been hankering for a game similar to Parasite from Warcraft 3 (where one or two people end up against everyone else, and have to go with their agenda). Is this similar to that in many respects? And what would be good tips for someone attempting to get into it, as well as server suggestions, as I noticed that there was a goon server, as well as one for B12.
