Can guild ownership be transferred? As I'm VIP anyway, I wouldn't mind "taking over" the guild so we have a guildstone again. (No worries Girlinhat, you can have all the fancy admin privileges you had before... I hope. How does that system work?  :-\)

No huge glaring bugs that I can think of, honestly nexon seems to have shaped up on that front. For a while the server was eating hotkeys, but they fixed that. Also, look up "nagle algorithm disable" on google. You shold be able to find something that might help your lag situation a touch. I've done it myself and can confirm it works fine. You may use a bit more bandwith, but aside from that it'll mostly speed up your internet. I also posted a link to a guide to do it earlier in the thread somewhere. It's not nearly as important as it used to be, but.

Also, steam chat join, link in OP, etc, blahblah.

EDIT: This was to singularity, by the way.

I disabled that long ago. My issue was our whole campus sharing a T2 line, or something ridiculous like that. xD

I guess I'll poke around, but I'm not up for anything big tonight. No dungeons. My main character's name is Xandak, for those that remember.

Could... could I cause Hitler's voice to randomly go super high-pitched during his speeches like the broken dog translator from Up?
I assume so, you'd just have to create an area of (high?) pressure around his head, or shorten the strings in his voicebox or something.
I thought that it COULD have proper applications that are useful though. Like the USA government trying their best to justify Hiroshima and Nagasaki by running a simulation without interference until the bombs were dropping, at which point they'd delete them from existence and run the simulation from there. If it was justified, Japan would kill more that 120,000 in their defense of Japan, otherwise the overall death count would be lower. Or something like that anyway.

But fun application is much higher, I assume.
Like doing things that should be impossible like creating sheer ocen walls, and then slam them shut when somebody goes in to check it out properly. Or maybe give one human access to the debugging menu so they can mess around with it. Probably tell them to be at least considerate with it so they don't kill anyone, just to use it for things that are at best impossible and slightly startling, then resurrect them when they die...
WAIT A MINUTE.
We cannot play the program because the program is too busy being the universe as played by an endless recurring tower of Bay12ers playing god. Each iteration of the universe simulation has more and more interference. This is the only possibility.

A long read, but relevant: http://qntm.org/responsibility

What I want right now is a tactics game with randomly generated campaigns (as long as we're dreaming big). They would include a plot, somehow. Hopefully an engaging one. Random maps have been done, but not an endless stream of campaigns.

(Okay, I'll come clean: I just want an endless stream of games like Disgaea and Soul Nomad. Multiple playthroughs of the same content only hold my interest for so long!)

Alternatively, an MMO that actually holds my interest for more than a week or two. :P

Man... I dunno whether to give this another try. It's been a few months. They were doing some mega event where people could win lightsabers or something? Even it couldn't get me to stick around, because they had bugs within their events! But... I'm not stuck on lame campus internet anymore, and the melee changes sound good. And I was waiting on the merchant destiny...

Any current, glaring bugs? I want to like this game but things seem to break all the time.  :-\ Either way I'll probably hop online tonight just to see what my new lag situation is.

I don't think any monster has swimming - though bells now start with firearm skill, which means you can teach it to others now - meaning the only way for a pet to get it is via equipment bonus. I don't know whether they benefit from it though.

Traveling doesn't give bonuses to speed, but it *is* based on speed; meaning it (and swimming which is also speed-based) trains speed.

I don't know whether pets benefit from the skill trainings from traveling.

From reading the threads on 4chan, I'm almost positive there's a monster with Swimming... but I don't remember what it was. Sorry.  :-[

As for Travelling, while it doesn't give a speed boost directly, the japanese elona wiki suggested that it gave a seven-league-boots sort of boost to world map traveling speed, even in vanilla. Some bored wizmode testing on my part confirms this is the case, though I only tested the ridiculously-high end.

Are you playing as a snail? Dungeon cleaner is *very* dangerous to you then. It throws salt at you...

Nope, normal person. Never threw anything at me, and I lasted a few turns in melee even, before it pasted me. I may have been using one of the debug races though I guess.

Did you anger an adventurer by pickpocketing/killing them? They hold a lifelong grudge against you, and will track you down instantly if they're in the same town as you (somehow they always know where you are. Don't ask.) And yes, they will smash walls like a dungeon boss. The only way to make them stop is to talk to them while under the incognito effect.

If you're playing Elona+, then everyone needs Gardening, for those super herb mixtures that were mentioned before. Of course, I got the 20 Gardening I needed a while ago... the 30 cooking will take so much longer. ;_;

NPC music preferences roughly correspond to their levels. Mia just happens to be pretty low level. I THINK, but don't quote me on this, that if your level is well above that of the people you're performing to, they're too afraid to throw rocks, no matter what your performer skill is. It seems to be that way, at least. At my level I can perform for magic vendors relatively safely (they seem to have lower levels for some reason), while other vendors or guards never let me finish a song.

By these rules, you'd be a fool to ever, EVER perform around the gods. Just saying. :P

Edit: Okay, okay, I just tried it in wiz-mode and I certainly got hit by rocks from everyone, even at level 86. I think the part about preferences scaling with level is true, but being high-level yourself doesn't save you.

I've just acquired my first living weapon. A shotgun, from some random adventurer. All he wanted for it was one potion of cure corruption. The only problem is that I rely on having a range advantage for this character (the other problem is not having Ehekatl's feat for min-maxing purposes). But who cares! Into storage it goes until I have that feat... and I guess she's the next god I worship. Too bad, I was gonna pick kumiromi.

(This character is a Gunner. If only it had been any other type of gun...)

Is there one comprehensive strategy guide anywhere (like a page of tips or something) for succeeding at the game? Maybe I just need to look harder.

Aptly-named page: http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Tips

Nothing there is Elona+ specific, of course, but it's a start. For Elona+ stuff I actually find myself on 4chan, and I never thought I would (okay, it's one of the mirror sites). There's been a stream of Elona threads in /vg/ that are going at a breakneck pace, and most are playing +.

Hmm, not a bad idea, I'd like to check out Gene engineering anyways.
Hey, is there any way to download the source? I remember reading it was released, but have yet to find it.

You'd have to ask Noa (the old developer) yourself. He doesn't just put it up for download because he worries about possible copyright issues with redistributing some of the art assets. Or you know, bum it off someone who has it, but I'd respect his wishes. Use the Form Mail page on the official Elona site: I got a response back within a couple days.

As for Elona+... it's on the first google result for "Elona+". Just google translate the page and look for a download. Google translate links are long and look like vomit, or I'd link you right to it. Although looking at it... ooh, there's an Elona+ 1.08 now? That's new. *runs off*

Backing all that up, and as a note, the post game content is pretty much a grindfest. If you don't enjoy that, feel free to just skip the post game stuff, none of it is amazingly plot relevant. Before the post game content though, it's all pretty universally awesome.

I'm okay with this. I guess I'll just keep an eye open while rummaging and such. Maybe Amazon has it cheap... Edit: Nope. DS copy is the most expensive of the lot. I don't even.

If you have a PSP, you can get the first two games off of the PSN, for pretty cheap. (10-20 bucks each, I think?). Otherwise, yeah, they're sort of cult classics. I second the opinion to start with the first one... I started with the second, then went all over the place. But, most of the later games in the series make grinding easier in some fashion. That sounds like a good thing, but they spoiled me, so the first Disgaea is the only one I haven't finished the main story in. That's what I get, I suppose. :P

-snip-

I was in here preparing to recommend a few games... and saw UV's post which contained all of them. Basically, "seconded to everything", but especially the Shin Megami Tensei series.

Same here... as soon as I read "Tactics RPG" in the OP I was all "OOH, OOH, DISGAEA". I have more to recommend from the same company though.

Have you looked at Phantom Brave, or Soul Nomad? They've got more of an injection of serious story than the main Disgaea series, and they have very unique game mechanics. (You can fuse people together in Phantom Brave, or items to people, or items to items...) Soul Nomad has a squad-based system, sort of. Up to nine individual units get shrunk to a single unit on the battlefield. Plus, Gig is just hilarious.

Of the two, Phantom Brave had a Wii remake/port, and is much much easier to find. You'd probably have to buy Soul Nomad online. The latter is highly recommended though, I just finished it yesterday. (As "finished" as you want to call finishing the main story in a Nippon Ichi game... okay, I'm rambling now) :D

In past games, I always combined nuking Palmia with the Thieves Guild initiation quest. Not paying your taxes for that long already drags your karma through the mud, so it's hard to get it much worse. If the thieves guild is your thing, JimDale, you may as well let taxes pile up. By the time you're a criminal, you should be able to afford the nuke.

Fakeedit: I see your problem is in Vernis. My point still stands, really... might as well nuke both places if your karma is already bottomed out.

Thanks for all the tips. Previously I thought 3k gold was a lot for me, but now that I've went and bought equipment and started doing quests quickly, I have 10k in minutes! Maybe I will try some of those 'Beauty and the Beast' quests now, they seem like they wouldn't be too bad.

Nononono... they ARE bad. Though it's been half-an-hour since you posted, so you probably learned first hand. Imagine being stopped by a rogue ambush while on a "Before it's too late!" quest. That's about how difficult it is, except you can't teleport to victory because leaving the map automatically fails the mission. I've never actually succeeded at one of those, though I only tried it a couple times, so... yeah. :P
