Great Let's Play so far! I voted for seeing the Far North just because I'd love to see how your character would use the Imperial Legion to further his own goals somehow. "If you can't beat them, join them, then backstab them" etc. It would be hilarious. xD I may have to look at some of those mods when I ever get back around to playing Morrowind, although I have a feeling a lot of them won't work well with a "Good Guy" playthrough. Hmm... it's off-topic, but have you heard of a mod that lets you defect from one Great House to another (with a suitable high penalty, of course)? I could see a character with mostly noble intentions going crazy after spending some time in House Redoran (What? No reward AGAIN!?) and defecting to Hlallu where at least they know the value of money. xD

In fact, that's not a bad idea for a let's play. A noble character that slowly starts to be corrupted by greed like the other 90% of Morrowind. Yours is undoubtedly more hilarious, though. xD

When I clicked on this I thought it was a livestream of Singularity, the game. It was fun, you should take a look.

Hmm, ya know, I bought that game during one of the recent, massive Steam sales, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Perhaps that game can be next on the list. Blind Livestreams are fun, right? :D

I swear your icon was different 5 minutes ago. o.o

And yeah, death. We'll probably plan for 4 PM again tomorrow. I'll find some time to use Practice mode for its intended purpose, hopefully that will help. :P

And we're done for the night. It was fun until I got to the final boss and it raped me repeatedly. xD Hopefully tomorrow or this weekend I can come back and exact my revenge.

260
And we're off! Time for more Chantelise. Bit of a time skip from the last time I streamed, I think we're near the end of the game now.

261
Geez! I guess so!

I didn't realize until I saw the Oregon Trail thread that you were the one who was watching my Elona stream. I was going, "...who the hell is Yuuko?" xD

Ah well, I'm at work now so you won't hear from me for a while.

Alright, I'll give you guys more warning this time, cause people generally don't stalk this forum. :P I plan on livestreaming something this afternoon, around 4 PM EST. (That's GMT-4, I think? Daylight Savings Time is pesky sometimes.) It will most likely be Chantelise again, but could very well be something else.

Hey guys. Decided to hop on the Livestream bandwagon again. I have some thread from like, last year, but I think that one is better left to die. :P

Expect no consistency with games or commentary. I've previously proven that I lack the proper attention span to stick with one game for very long, but setting up the livestream before I start playing a game doesn't take too much work. I'll try to at least announce beforehand when I plan on doing something, but no guarantees there either. I can be pretty lazy sometimes. :P I have a mic, so hopefully the sound of my voice doesn't drive you too crazy. Only one way to find out!

Livestream link is here: http://www.livestream.com/Singularity125

Currently playing: None! I beat Chantelise, what next?

Currently OFFLINE.

Noooooo I spent way too long following the damned endless road on the front page. Why am I so easily distracted today? :(

...well off to bed.

What I'd like to see is a hypothetical game that's an intelligent hybrid of Star Control 2, Space Rangers 2, Imperium Galactica 2, and Noctis. So that there's a huginormous (no-hope-of-exploring-in-a-single-lifetime huginormous) galaxy out there, pregenerated but with randomly allocated "pockets" of intelligent life that tie themselves together via some FTL system, and strive to protect the galaxy against a suddenly appearing threat, which you first fight a losing battle against, then assemble an alliance, research the enemy's origins, develop countermeasures, and eventually drive the invaders out of the galaxy. This in a completely "living" environment with real trade routes, real NPC ships milling about their business, exploring, pirating, liberating, etc. All the time you're also free to explore the uncharted space for minerals, give names to stars and planets, fund or build spacestations, design and craft your own ships, then eventually control an armada that you will wield to (effectively) single-handedly drive the push against the enemy. That is a game I'd really like to play. X3 just seems too cramped.

This idea is fun of win. Kudos.

I always was fond of the idea of a game where you could do anything. Generally speaking though, I have some pet-peeves about the sandbox game genre that I wish a company would address.

  • I'd like to see a serious take on a closed world/economy. In a single player game, at least, there wouldn't be griefing from one person hoarding every Iron Longsword in the world. I want to apply this to everything, though. Items, monsters, civilians, even raw materials. The stories about possibly being able to drive a species extinct in DF Adventure mode make me a little giddy. I like things being possible even if they are entirely unfeasible.
  • I hate it when the AI (or the player, in some cases!) gets an unfair advantage. Bonus resources, endlessly-respawning ships, the works. Basically tied in with the complaint above though. I ought to be able to starve an opponent out.
  • I want a real dynamic quest system that responds to, and capitalizes on, the game world. So many times game designers break this guideline along with the ones above! In X2 for example, I'll get to a station that's dry on a resource and there will often be a quest to fill its needs. That's the good kind of quest. There's also horrible ones where the guy's like "Save me from the Xenon" and they spawn immediately after the quest is taken. And if the quest isn't taken, they don't spawn at all!
  • Ties in with the above, but I'd like quests not to always wait for the player. In a dynamic, procedurally-generated world, the player shouldn't be the only one doing fetch quests. If that poor sap can't find someone to protect him from the Xenon (and their presence should trigger the quest to appear, not the other way around!)... then that guy's out of luck, and he's dead. Don't do this with static quests though, the existence of those pushes me into a completionist mindset and if they expire on me, I get rather upset. xD I just want the world to be able to crumble from collective apathy.

Tl;dr: Want a dynamic world that doesn't reserve a special place in its heart for the player character. The player needs to earn his respect. The dynamic system I suggest lets you do things like play both sides. (Tip the bad guys off to a place to raid, then watch a quest appear to kill the bad guys, and get rewarded for both? Yes please! x3)

Ouch, that sucks. >.< I'm super paranoid and ID everything before I use it, for that reason.

The RNG loved being put on display last night. At one point I ran through a dungeon and got 2 cure corruption potions: 1 from the chest at the end, and one from a random drop. At another point I was in Noyel, and somebody in there has an attracts monsters item. So there were random monsters and loot piles all over the place. It wasn't without risk, I did almost die a couple different times. But I happened to pick up an unknown potion and IDed it as a Blessed potion of Descent.  :D I know people tend to like unblessed ones better, but at my low level I'd like to have some feats. So I glugged it down. Then I freed Ebon for the lulz and in the ensuing chaos I found a Miracle quality grenade. The bonuses weren't all that spectacular but it does do a bit of nerve damage. Much more fun than the coral shuriken I found before.

Anyways, enough rambling. I looked through the source last night out of curiosity, and found to my dismay that Learning actually has no effect on skill gain rates. Maybe it would be overpowered, but the wiki insisted there was an effect. :( I'm thinking of doing a "Balance Patch" at some point. As is, it looks like Learning only affects bonus points on level up and MP (1 MP per 3 points of Learning).

Inferior materializing it might actually lessen it's value, so avoid that, and likewise, avoid using change materials and superior materials on it.

Actually, that's among the list of bugs that I should have fixed with my patch. I didn't test that one in particular, so if someone enterprising wants to test for me, I'd appreciate it. Also, I had no clue coffins were worth so much house rank. o.o

@Wolf Tengu: How'd you win a party time quest without performing any? Or if you did perform, you didn't mention it. I want platinum coins for murdering innocent civilians! xD

Hm, I believe I'll do some livestreaming of Elona if someone's interested. Been ages since I streamed anything, and I'm bored. It's at http://www.livestream.com/Singularity125

Such a thing requires a ton of grinding though

Indeed. Of several kinds.  ;)

...sorry, couldn't resist.  :D

*whistles and innocently hides the fully cleared very hard difficulty file on his memory card*

Yeah...I'm fucking insane in case you haven't noticed.

I salute you, good sir. I'm bad at basically every game ever. I'm a gamer, but not a good one. >.> That being said, I found Far Cry 1 punishingly difficult, and I know it's a common complaint on higher difficulties. It expects you to be stealthy, then makes it near-impossible to do so. It's not free, but reasonably cheap (ten bucks on Steam). I also second the notion of Elona, but if you want challenge, play it as a pure mage. The magic system in that one is quite unfair. You can never permanently learn a spell, for starters. Sadly, most of the games I play and know are RPGs, because I am bad at games. :P Grind is not the sort of difficulty you probably want, so I'm out of ideas.
