DF Gameplay Questions / Re: keeping cats out of the garbage chute

and raising bridges, i had not considered that, as i have had problems with indoor bridges killing things on them when i raise them.. would removing the floor above prevent that?
Raising bridges will still kill anything on them, regardless of if they have a floor or not above them.
Not always, most of the time it breaks bones/stuns with no damage.

At least... For me.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: February 27, 2013, 04:16:11 pm »
I am currently recovering from an Titan Attack.  The amber, web-spitting,  ceratops managed to swim though my pond, and up my well.  My burgeoning fort of 196 dwarves was slaughted as the beast made it into my main stairway.   Dwarf after dwarf was conscripted into the military.  Babies where thrown down hallways, spinal cords and nervous systems kicked to pieces.   Dwarf after dwarf felled. My military refusing to use weapons, instead reling on biting and kicking the monster.  Which, turned out to be less than effective against a creature made of amber, who spits webs and kicks babies 200 yards.

As my numbers dwindled to the low 20's, I get an announcement.  My legendary woodcutter has given birth. Auto-zooming to the location, I find that she's outside felling wood.  How I overlooked drafting her, when I drafted all my most valuable dwarfs (and lost them, one by one), I'll never know.   So I put her in a squad  "The Pointed Fish" or something, she ran back to the fort... and... felled the beast with one blow.

Now I'm in the process of building tombs, and cleaning up the hallways... And tending to the (mostly paralyzed) wounded.

Life continues in Bladechambers.

Lashers.

Every Adventurer I make, in every world I make, no matter how high or low he gets in life... A lasher always seems to kill him.

That's why I always play lashers.

Oh, I got my revenge on you salty-whip-wielding-fiends.   My new adventurer seems nigh invincible.

The only thing that hurt him was a friend of the night, who kicked me in the ribs and bruised my lung.

I cut him in half to show my displeasure.

Is there any way to make my dwarf more adept at falling?
I jumped 2 Z-levels, and decimated my entire left side.

Actually, I think that toughness and willpower are the most important stats.  You're almost guaranteed to get hurt with a drop of more than 1 level, so toughness helps minimize the damage and willpower helps you stop from passing out.

God knows how long it took me to figure that out.

I used to take all my points out of everything and put them in Strength, Agility, Toughness, and Endurance.  Exclusively.

Thus, I'd be godly, until something actually managed to hit me... Then I'd promptly pass out from a minor bruise and be beaten/eaten/gored/raped to death.

Killing, Maiming, Burning, Pillaging.

What else is there to do as an adventurer?

Although my meatshields sidekicks appear to be quite the godly fellows themselves.  I've an axman who's been at my side since the beginning. Lost an ear and a leg in his first fight.   It shrugged it off as a fleshwound and has proceeded to maim and kill anything and everything that's gotten in his way.  Had a Maceman that followed me around for a time who lost a nose and an eye, and proceeded to be a badass.

Keep sending guys after it.

You might get lucky.  I had a salt-titan terrorize me for a year, until an intrepid young militia man wandered into it's path and punched it's head off it's shoulders.

Recently joined a cult.   Appearently these humans worship "Cassok" God of Murder and Torture.

It's refreshing to talk to humans and hear "Go with Murder"... You know, before I butcher their civilization and offer their skulls to their own God.

Wild Animals breed.

I had a Cougar or something give birth as it was trying to kill my legendary sworddwarf.

To this day I don't know why he was bashing it with his shield, he's never had a problem with using his sword before.

If the water is indoors, it won't freeze.

Although, I did have a map where the water froze down the channel, and one tile underground but I figured that was more of a minor glitch of sorts, it didn't happen in any other seasons.

The wiki says you can use bandages.   I don't suppose it'd be a far stretch to assume you can use splints aswell.

I HAMMER people with my artifact adamantine hammer.
Spears? Pff.
And these are not the hammer.

My god, this image actually exists.

My God, have you seen that movie?  it's damned hilarious.

I was doing some illconcieved construction and my legendary miner got blown off a cliff by water pressure.

All of his internal organs were crippled.   But he's made a full recovery!... Albeit, he is paralyzed and just sits in bed getting fatter and fatter.

But his personality has the added  "Nothing really bothers him anymore"  tacked on.    I've also got a dwarf that has had both of his arms ripped out and a lung punctured that's still kickin.... Because...that's all he can do.

Walledloves.

Group: The Prestigious Attic.

Not quite as good as some of the others, what makes this group is their deity:  Figule Greatestward the tower gems.  Blahblah blah takes Dwarf form blah blah.  Associated with: Trade, Wealth, Deformity, Disease, Blight, Death, War, and Fortresses.

He is quite honestly, the most Dwarfy God ever.
