Alas, they might get upset.

Micromanaging isn't all that hard, you'll get used to it.

I don't like diagonal movement, I still make everything square for role play/aesthetics.

But you can't know which ones, so unless you want to gamble for stability, don't do it.

Don't extract a new version on top of an old one. It can and will mess things up.

Which sucks. Hope it's changed sooner or later, I would love to play on a small island.

The inclusion of more than one core does not render software incompatible. DF just doesn't utilize more than one.

Magma isn't like water, though, magma is unaffected by pressure and won't climb up.

Nothing dumb there, I used to go for the magma right away for that exact reason. And... I don't recall ever seeing a magma man, actually, ever.

An aqueduct is exactly like a bridge, except with a channel running in the center. So no, that won't work, you'd still need guardrails.

It doesn't stop the water. But it doesn't need to, the natural flood is ankle-deep. The point is that your dwarfs don't get pushed into the actual river by it, where they can actually drown.

That's inefficient. You only need 3 bridges to make one that's perfectly safe.
code:

~~~
What you do is that. Build two drawbridges on the sides of the main one, link them to a lever, and pull it. You can remove the lever afterwards. The arrows show which way they should raise.
DF keeps a history of everything, including past forts. So no.
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bronze vs. Iron
« on: July 29, 2007, 04:29:00 pm »
Interesting read, but I came across this (here):
quote:
The people of the Middle East found that a much harder product could be created by the long term heating of a wrought iron object in a bed of charcoal, which was then quenched in water or oil. The resulting product, which had a surface of steel, was harder and less brittle than the bronze it began to replace.
So as I see it, the dwarfs of DF are quite skilled in iron working, and since the process of creating iron involves either charcoal or magma...
