Ok I'm feeling very stupid. How do I progress from a Grab to a lock?  I can grab stuff and strangle etc, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get a lock so I can break somethings legs arms or various other appendeges.

I don't know about this, I had a blast lopping off zombie arms, legs, and heads with my whip. maybe it doesn't kill them as quickly as other weapons, but definitely not suicidal.

Theoretically, you could capture some fire causing creature and set it to be released from its cage and into a stockpile of alcohol when a pressure plate is triggered.

Build the cage with the goblin in it, then link it to a lever and pull the lever.  That will release him.

around 160,  which made my fps drop to like 16 or something, so I don't do that anymore.

Yes he probably has the latest version, same thing happens everytime, I have my cap set to 30 but right now I have ~60 dwarves.  Like they said it's not a set in stone limit, you have 30 and then next year it won't send any waves, but you'll still get more this year , and then if you qualifiy for nobles , they will come, and then everyone starts having children like crazy .  so you always end up over what you set it as.  So always set it lower than how many you actually want.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Floodgates

A while back I made a perma-flood half way up the river which was stopped (thank God)  by the  doors I had happened to place next to the bridge.  Now I've since moved on, built another bridge etc so I don't need that inaccessible area,  but I was wondereing what I did wrong in the first place.  Here is the lay out

so the first flood gate opened and that was fine, I opened the second and the whole place flooded to the north, is it becuase of the one open square north of the floodgate?

Yes just kill the noble. I was friendly to the humans, gave them tons of stuff, and when their noble was killed by the elephants they attacked me the next year with 7 squads.

I would assume so since they have a MAXAGE  in thier file.  Never personally seen it happen though.
