DF General Discussion / Re: Do your female dwarves have beards?
« on: July 25, 2010, 08:50:25 pm »
BEEEEEEEEEARDS!
It'd be a two-class society, otherwise! Sexual segregation! And such cannot be!

Either you drop the assumption that beards are something to be proud of, or you insult every single female beardless dwarf that ever fought in the front lines, mined out a fortress where before there was none, or - and heavens, what must that be - gave birth to future dwarves.

Well, wouldn't silver arrows rule supreme, then?

Seriously, you silly humans. Stop trying to port your standards of attractivity over to the dwarves. BEARDS! MUST! BE!

Hold on. Rainfall. Hills. Mountains.
I usually make my worlds so they sport as many flat deserts as possible, so...yeah...my bad on the world gen side of this.

Still, the finder. It's totally useless and all the good stuff is underground? What a sad day for aboveground fortresses.

I know enough females with beard growth stronger than mine. Human ones, mind you. Thank wax and photoshop that your ideals of beauty can safely (but superficially) call those "exceptions".

For dwarves: I'd at the most differentiated argue that females ought to be SLIGHTLY less hairy overall than their male counterparts. Slightly. Not at all necessarily fundamentally.

We then conclude that the finder is crap. Are there any tools out there one could use in its stead?

My programming skills end at html, so enlighten me: What's a forkbomb?

Because the finder keeps feeding me brooks when I want real rivers. Then, when I go check downstream, all my other finder settings (evil, savagery, temperature, flux, elevation, aquifers) get thrashed, so I have to keep checking tile for tile. It's a tremendous hassle.

Seriously, brooks. WTF.

Hah! This is awesome. You truly are a dwarf among dwarves.

DF General Discussion / Re: The CPU - FPS test

It says...
Code: [Select]
Intel Core 2 CPU
6400 @ 2.13 GHz
1.60 GHz, 3,00 GB RAM
...about my comp. Whatever that means.

Now then, to the testing.
[...]
25 FPS.
Although it varied from 12 to 29, it usually was flaking around the mid-twenties.

Is there any way to reduce the number of brooks (without loosing actual rivers) during world gen?
Or at least some crafty tweak to exclude brooks from the embark finder's "rivers: yes" setting?

I hate brooks. Seriously.

« on: July 25, 2010, 11:09:31 am »
Deserts, when you have the water problems solved in some way, are actually rather awesome. They're flat, which makes the surface easy to observe and designate over, they usually offer just enough wood and shrubbery to have something to fall back upon in times of need, the infinite supply of sand means you have as much glass as you ever need as soon as you hit magma, there's plenty of migratory animals running around for you to domesticate or kill...no, really. I usually try to have at least one desert square in my embark rectangle.

Yea, well, it was also a terryfing biome with constant goblin ambushes, so my hospital was always struggling to give water to the many wounded  :P

It's probably less of a wall and more of a very steep, very *expensive* incline.
