Anyone got tips on how to get animal training up and running? (like, what's the usual process??)</STRONG>

Male Dog+Female Dog+ Time+ Kennels= Lots of trained animals.

Try using water, AND magma (but make sure it's only getting into one square so it kills the chasm in a long, long time) at the same time on a chasm, it spawns 100-200 monsters a year until the magma finally kills the chasm.

Investing points in any kind of crafting or masonry is also useless.

They claim to be [BENIGN], but I think they're sinister, evil, bloodthirsty animals.

Besides, the elephant population has tripled in the last six months.

That's strange, because never has an "accident" happened in training to me, not even with the least skilled and strongest of dwarves.

Well if you're really that worried about a certain type of animal stopping your dwarves outside, just draft a legendary engraver/smoother after he's smoothed every damn thing over in the fortress and give him plate mail, send him to kill some deer or other pathetically weak creatures until he's pretty damn tough, and then give him an obsidian sword.

It works like a charm on Blizzard Men for me.

But replace those deer with Musk Oxen.

Three. He's obviously been letting some disintegrate over the years.

::edit:: maybe boots and shoes get replaced, not sure.

Also, this is because gloves and boots are considered armor.
