DF Gameplay Questions / Re: A couple of questions, please
« on: April 03, 2007, 03:33:00 pm »
Thanks for trying puke.

Having dwarves set to clean doesn't help, unless they need some time (-like a season) of standing around idle.

As for MrSidNet, artifacts seem pretty useless to me generally. Your dwarf will get stronger from carrying them around, but half the time it doesn't matter because of all the exp. they get from building it. Sometimes (as happened with my bowyer) they'll create artifact weapons which should be equal (possibly superior?) to masterworks. Can't assign them to a different dwarf though.

Now 2 more for me:
4) Will dwarves ever use (narrow) or other such equipment?
5) If not, is it possible to have a smelter smelt strictly those types of items?

DF Gameplay Questions / A couple of questions, please
« on: April 03, 2007, 02:42:00 pm »
1) What is the purpose of reserved bins?

2) Do dwarves ever actually clean? One barrack spar gone bloody seems to fill half my fortress floors with blood...

3) Is it possible to remove deceased units from the unit list? I've probably got a hundred dead foxes clogging it up.

P.S. Thank you, and sorry if this was already answered somewhere.

In a way it makes sense. A novice would make a fatal mistake in a sparring session, one that'd probably make his partner part company with their head.

Yeah, imagine your sparring partner to be on par with a Fallout supermutant and someone gave him a big heavy death-stick and told him to play fight with you...and uh, this guy has never even held such a weapon in his hands before, let alone knows how to use it.

So if he connects and you aren't Terminator tough decked out in the best armor this side o' the demon pits.... ?

Ok, that's what I had thought but wasn't sure. Thanks.

Dwarves will clean, but inconsistently, and they spread stuff faster than they clean it usually.

I think it depends on the location of the goblin civ. I've seen trolls but never beak dogs. (Do they still exist?)

DF Bug Reports / Re: pop cap not working?
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:07:00 am »
Last I recall it's a soft cap. Meaning that if you're under said cap you can get a wave of immigrants knocking you over, but if over the cap you shouldn't get more till you fall under.

DF Bug Reports / Re: 33a- dogs will not stay chained (dwarves too)

With grown dwarves that won't stay, try drafting them. I had an instance with a dwarf that wouldn't stay jailed and kept leaving to attend a meeting with the guard bringing him right back over and over. I drafted him to break his current job, and then he stayed just fine. (Of course this didn't make him any happier)

DF Bug Reports / Re: child snatchers...

Yeah, I recently caught 2 on their way out, 1 with a child in tow. Great feeling of satisfaction as my military rescued the child and my 1 conscripted miner chased down the other for kicks.

DF Bug Reports / Egad! My food!
« on: November 01, 2007, 02:47:00 am »
I've no clue where it went. I assume this must be a bug that in mid\late summer I had over a 100 prepared meals + 150ish booze stocks and now at 1st of autumn I've 6 drinks, 80 prepared meals and over a 100 plants that seemingly came from nowhere.

With food it might've gotten eaten but that many drinks gone that fast seems impossible. I suspect they might have been converted back to plants for some reason.

Note: I was playing with process priority to try to make DF run faster shortly before I noticed this, citing as possible cause.

DF Bug Reports / [38c] Hydra problem?
« on: March 01, 2008, 11:53:00 pm »
I was adventuring, assigned to kill a hydra, and while looking for it I just got a log message of it giving into pain, and then shortly after bleeding to death. There was no other creature mentioned in the log, so I don't know what happened.

Maybe it's not a bug and the hydra got attacked by a cave spider or something, but I thought I'd post to be safe.

I think, for now at least, if a spouse dies the dwarf will never take another.

Awww, how sweet.
