Not soon after my King arrived to live in my fortress (I'm not necessarily sure this is related) my militia commander was found dead with his blood drained. Now recently one of my hammerlords has been missing for a week. Checked his bedroom but he wasn't there so for the moment I have no idea where he is and if it was indeed a vampire attack again. It's happening pretty infrequently but thus far I have no idea who it is and I don't know how many of my population are affected. I'm hoping some of you could help in this matter.

That's the thing, I sort of "came back" after a while and I have no idea how to use the minecarts or what to do with them.

So obviously I spent a little time away from DF and in the current version I notice that A: Bituminous Coal now gives 9 as opposed to 3 because of the chance of digging rocks is now based on a percentage rather than skill level (Old legendary mining every rock dug produced stone) and B: Stones in general only "drop" 25% of the time unless small clusters or adamantine. Was the decision to do this based on the annoyance of having tons of rocks in the way of your putting things places, like a stockpile in rock rather than soil/sand would have rocks taking up space in it? It does make sense. Just thought I'd ask if you guys could explain it to me. (Also Mayday hasn't updated to .11 yet for some reason >.>)

Oh sure I build the dining area, the workshops, the stockpiles, and the sleeping quarters, but what kinds of stuff should I do? Maybe I'm creatively stagnant. :/

I suppose we could go with an ice theme, a sort of Fortress of Solitude vibe. That was the first idea that came to my head. So we'd have to settle somewhere cold.

Well I've been roleplaying with a friend for years over IM, I suppose that's a little bit of background credentials. I will follow your other advice soundly and read up on those threads. I've also read the 3 famous DF LPs on the let's play archive from Something Awful.

I've kind of wanted to do my own fortress where you guys follow the adventures of what goes on, give me ideas on what to do, like challenges or something. "Build this or that" and stuff, naming dwarves after you guys, that kind of thing. It wouldn't be a yearly trade off thread, more of a solo type of thing. My other concern though is making it interesting. I wouldn't want to just drone on with boring stuff. Anything you guys can suggest?

I'm not sure why, but I find that pleasing.
You wouldn't really see pants in a fantasy setting.
