Elves are useful for me if I dont have trees on my map, dont have sunberries on my map, and if I have sand+volcano on my map.  (i like the cloth for bags :D)  once I hit the caverns, get my sunshine farm running, and have about 200+ bags, I stop caring about the elves ;)

go to standing (o)rders and then the (r)efuse option.  Tell them to not ignore refuse from (o)utside.  that should fix your problem.  :D

how about locked and lever linked and magma safe? 8)

I like the whole, "spiral ramp with shooty spots the entire time then fight through the barracks, back up stairs through shooty spots full of traps out the wazoo then finally hitting the workshops/residential areas" idea.  Also, make the caverns follow the same route into the fort ;)

so, whats your plan to make this renewable?  I vote building a drawbridge to allow for blocking the vacuum chamber.  also, try throwing in some cage traps (make an aquarium? :D)

Hey, if you need a succession game to join I know that UnitedGate is looking for more players.  We have had a few people unable to complete turns so head on over there.  Many of us are first time succession game players.  So, there are not too many mega projects...(the wall is the legacy of my turn.  they took their time building it though...)

here are my starting dwarfs

5brew/5cook
appraise/record/whatever manager uses
5herb/5farm

the rest of my points go on equipment (I like lots of sand bags, seeds, and animals [i modded elephants as embarkable ;) ] also, use wooden training axes as has been said.)  If I feel adventurous, I leave the picks and bring 1 coke, 3 bit coal, 9 copper nuggets ;) and a few stone blocks.  Add glacier volcano for maximum Fun. ;)

but, i want to be a non klepto kobold!  I can be a kobold with a serious mental disorder (for kobolds not stealing is a disorder.  it would be akin to a dwarf who dislikes alcohol.  And doesn't slow down

Or make a me a spearkobold...
