DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Cheese

Really?  Because I seem to have seen mules spring up without migrants bringing them in...

Also, if that is true then that simplifies my life...I feel that cheeses from different animals should have different values...AND WHY ARENT CATS MILKABLE?

hmmm...So bring a breeding pair of both horses and donkeys?  selectively breed them up to muscular/gigantic/fat butcher all mules as a meat source (or save them for emergency food supplies.  culling the male horses/donkeys should be enough for a while) and use that to establish an early dairy industry, then import cows or camels later on?  Or would it be better to bring 2 breeding pairs of horses or donkeys?  This would prevent the birthing of mules (so faster herd growth) but then every donkey/horse that enters the map would need to be culled to prevent mules from interfering with the dairy herd...(this is why I bring cows.  they might cost more, but they dont spew out mules that are only useful for meat supplies.  Surprisingly, mules provide more meat than donkeys or horses.  buy several female horses and a single male donkey if you want a cheap meat supply.)

Wow i am being a little disjointed but oh well.  what about maggots?  How easy/difficult are they to acquire?  If i modded my game to make them purchasable on embark (or from traders later on) what would an acceptable price be?  their current value of 10 seems much too low in my opinion...

And why are camels so frakking expensive (on embark?)

I just grabbed a copy of the save and will work on it this week, I have to do a little work today as well as keep on my HW (grrrr...calculus...)

Do we have a farmer and mechanic?  if yes, we only need the sand from now on ;D

EDIT:  (Sand is the most important thing to bring on embark.  besides meat/booze/picks/training axe)

*sigh* in the rock surrounding the volcano on its slopes, and in the rock adjacent to the magma further down.  >_>

actually, you can have aquifers in the volcano and underneath the volcano (but digging down near the magma is your best bet for avoiding the aquifer) I have seen that happen and it is a PAIN navigating around three layers of aquifer...but i did it! we are ignoring how i turned my staircase into a mist generator on accident...

How many creatures are needed to sustain a continual milk/cheese cycle?  And do different creatures milk at the same rate?

893
1 cow, 1 bull, 4 female dogs, 2 male dogs, the rest in sand.  :D ;D

While none of that is what you are talking about here you should be able to see how people could think that this was what you meant.
Instead what you're talking about is how the hatch is on the tile above them and they would have to enter that tile to smash it apart or transfer enough heat to melt it. Seeing as it is locked they are stuck below it where they technically cannot reach it and can't conduct much heat to it.

I believe Shoku said that.  but the pathing issues would prevent them from going through my corridor.  My plan would be ~15 spikes, then my barracks of cottoncandy wielding patrons (happy with the improved parallel? ;D)

Also, At least 50 bags of sand (pull 30 from each of those seeds i requested so no net change in points)  if for no other reason than a first caravan trade good.  the GCS bags sell for 121 each giving at least 1.2k dorfbucks to spend on drinks and food the first fall resupply.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What to do with a very heavy giant in a cage?

Create a large pit that goes down to the caverns, drop giant into caverns. Watch as he is splattered cavern food.
Such a waste of a giant...

Save him until you have collected a small menagerie then release them in a pit.  preferably a gladiator style arena where POW's can be sent to die while your dwarfs dine behind crystal glass walls...

Diversify the seed supply a bit.  I demand we bring no less than 20 sweet pod seeds and 20 rock nuts.  syrupy salads (quarry bush roasts+sweet pod syrup) are CRAZY VALUABLE  Especially when it is a 100% renewable source of income.

Pikes cannot be used by normal dwarves, you need huge dwarves.
This also.  But if they have exp in the skill, would that not imply they are able to use said weapon?

This is blasphemy.
Besides this, I have never heard of such a mod existing.  I have heard of creating one to allow for minecraft maps to be created and be extra playable, but yeah.  Thats all I have.  Good luck.
