Creatures don't deal or take falling damage if they land on another creature.

I would love to see flooding come about again. It would wreak havoc on above-ground forts sitting next to rivers. Tornadoes sound like they could have potential. Lightning, if done with any realism, would be too unpredictable and processor-heavy to be worth simulating.

Just have a couple of bolts strike the few highest points on the map during each storm.

Treat it like how whips operate now, but hitting organs instead of bones. You know, superhigh pierce and infinite sharpness that is 60,000 degrees that aims for the top of the body and can't be dodged/parried/blocked.

strange that you didn't mention volcanic eruptions(which also cause earthquakes). Twice the !!fun!!

O.O

Oh my GOD I didn't even think of that.

Annoncement: THE VOLCANO HAS ERUPTED! ALL FLEE BEFORE THE MAGMATIC WRATH OF ARMOK!

See sig.

WWII has NOTHING on dwarf fortress.

Hitler and Stalin executed millions of people because of paranoia, racism, and to crush any possible political dissenters.

Dwarf fortress players kill people(dwarves) for having the audacity to try and immigrate to their fortress as as cheesemaker or a clothier or whatever.

Or because we are bored.

Or because we want to perform !!SCIENCE!! on the long term effects of having your roomate explode into a pile of gore without warning.

This is getting off topic.

Dwarfiest person I know is myself. I am a Novice Lumberjack, Adept Goat-Farmer, Proficient Manufacturer, Competant Grower, Novice Butcher, Novce Cheesemaker,  Talented Shield User, Proficient Swordsman, Competant Armour User, Novice Spearman, and Skilled Swimmer.

So I am like a quasi-usefull immigrant that you don't QUITE want to atom-smash, but don't quite want to draft into the military either, because all those civie jobs means that I would bitch about being drafted.

LIGHTNING STRIKES!

We have rain, snow icing of water and other weather effects, where are the lightning strikes and tornados that can be brewed up by such storms?

I am not going to recommend earthquakes, because none of us want our glorious super-projects brought low by an uncontrollable unavoidable catastrophe, but lightning is relatively harmless enough that it would be a cool addition to the game without having the potential to completely destroy a fortress.

I already have a couple of ideas for how a lightning-rod based defence system could work...

Any thoughts on this subject?

just don't let the obsidian get muddy and have plants grow on it, or otherwise, it shall turn into dirt itself.
It will?

Damn. I'm going to need a lot more magma.

its one of the current bugs.

It is really only a problem if you don't get the mud cleaned up before plants grow.

I like how detailed the combat system is.

Being chased by too many enemies for you to fight? Turn around and chop a foot off, and keep running. Repeat until the number is manageable, and then go back and finish off the cripples.  :D

Sleep in a human fortress so you don't get murdered at night.

Since he has no cacame-esque worthieness, and doesn't ride a zombie wyrven, DROWN HIM IN MAGMA.

Then, abandon your fort, let a few years pass, and reclaim.

There should be a new king/queen declared.

Everyone slowly back away from the noble.

Sllooooowly now, we don't want to spook it.

As soon as we are all at a safe distance, slam the door and activate the "Upper Society Event Learning Extra Swimming Skills   Now Only Be Leading Effectively!" lever

I'm just hoping it gives the urban experience that Oblivion should've given, but didn't.  At any rate, Oblivion blew me away with catacombs under the city, and if it wasn't for certain engine-related aspects that made me loathe the game, it would've been terrific.

Like the fact that unless you built a class to exploit how the engine worked, monsters scaled better than you did levelling up? Yes, yes that sucked a great deal.

Go spend a few hours of real time murdering animals till you have a massive stockpile of meat, then just eat and sleep and eat and sleep in some human fortress so you are safe from the bandits/bogeymen.

Since headshoots was mentioned, at least one of the 100 ways to die HAS to be "Hit by a giant rat leather backpack with enough force to be propelled back into the far wall and explode into gore from the impact."
