DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Boulders=Stone?

To actually answer the OPs question, no. You cannot harvest boulders.
Thanks, in the fort I found some stone and a wealth of rubies.

Black sand is good. Sand can be used to make green glass.  There must be stone eventually. Keep digging down until you find it or get eaten.

DF Gameplay Questions / Boulders=Stone?
« on: July 14, 2010, 09:56:06 pm »
I've found a truly lovely spot, however, there isn't any stone -- that I have discovered yet. There are, though, tons of boulders with various compositions. Is it possible to like. . . err extract said stone from the aforementioned boulders?

As of now, by the way, my miners are chipping away. The floor is black sand if that is useful in anyway.

I am pleased with the results thus far. I myself have changed, the ASCII leaves much more to the imagination.

How many of you chaps play DF without tile/graphic sets or any sort of visual modification?

Are dwarfs smart enough to drink on their own? I have plenty of food but not too much alcohol and i plan on just letting it run while my miners hallow out the rest of the cliff. My fear is i come back and they've all died of thirst despite there being like 8 ponds just outside my fort.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: War dogs?

My friend says war dogs aren't powerful or strong in any form. But I have about 10 of them and they tore apart a goblin when I was seiged.
What do you think?
I started a fort in heavy ass sinister just for shits and giggles and got swamped with werewolves, two dogs and two wardogs killed 3 before taking any causalities. I would assume for humanoid critters war dogs are clutch en mass, however if a dragon rolls up LOL GG
