DF Gameplay Questions / How would this work?

I am curious as to how I would redirect the water into the soon to be farming room. When ever I channel it just goes into the room below which I suppose could work but am curious if there are other ways. 1: body of water 2: ~path i wish it to take 3: ~location of room. Anyone?

I was over run and killed. A pair of werewolves, in cahoots or not, crept in and pretty much slaughtered every one, GG.

Try going underground, building traps, and waiting inside with a bait animal. As soon as the werewolf goes in, they'll be slaughtered/caged. Then, you can do what you want with him. You can't tame him, so I suggest using him as siege bait.
Thats what i have planned, you can see some stairs on the screen cap, i have miner working hardly down below

I'm a relatively new player of DF so I figured rather then grinding out on safe ground awaiting the inevitable goblin siege I would thrust myself into sinister grounds for the first time. After i was done with mapping out my fort I started looking around the map waiting for the miners to hollow out some cliff and soon enough I spotted trouble. A werewolf was closing in on my idle dwarfs and animals, luckily, my war dogs and company killed it, however, another werewolf has taken its place but this one appears to be more cautious. What should I do? Form a ramshackle militia and engage or just wait it out until my fort is ready to move in then form a town watch kind of thing.

Its normal for every thing to be salty. I'm guessing the salts just in the soil so water becomes brackish everywhere or something. It makes sense to me, but I live on the shore.

Ok, I know what + and - are for, but what are * and / for? Left and right? Changing menus? Multiplying and dividing?

The standard setting is + - * / on the Numpad of your keyboard. If you're on Laptop or don't have a numpad for another reason, you'll have to rebind them (esc->key bindings or something like that)

Also this is a pretty polite forum though it's inhabited by psychopaths... nobody gets flamed except the occasional elf or noble ;)

I feel like a jackass asking but how do i access the items boxed in red? I've tried the alt arrow down with no results. Also what are the defaults for the lower box? I've literally been browsing the Key bindings and wiki trying to figure this out.

I wound't like to see DF with 3d graphics, not only it woudn't look as good as ASCII (in my opinion) but it'd also slow down the development of other stuff. I do look forward to isometric graphics or something similar, but no 3d graphics for me.

Got to leave something for the mind :P
