DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Building Towers

As well as the above, use colour coded blocks to help you in your design.  Generally it takes years to build a decnt size fort above ground.

Good luck!

The demon probably got most of his appendages cut off facing the other dwarves. He is probably just flailing at the dyer with his torso in an effort to wear the dyer out.

Either that or he's a snowflake demon.

I want to make a plant that produces wood logs after a year or so.

How do I go about doing that? I'd like it to be produced on farm tiles.

General Discussion / Re: "Will it take off?" question

Aircraft do not require friction with the ground to accelerate in the same way that a car or bicycle does.  It would accelerate at almost exactly the same rate as it normally and take off with ease.

I think the question has the conveyor belt moving so that it can't accelerate. In its essence I think the question is: can a plane take off without moving? If there is no horizontal movement can it provide enough vertical energy to beat gravity ( if the answer is yes, then it will fly. If not it won't.

At least thats how I see it.

Mythbusters says yes.

Personally I haven't been able to understand how a plane lifts without generating any air flow under the wings. Unless the propeller has enough power to do it.

What about using diplomacy to get out of it? Promise Brandenburg burgundy, and Austria Russia lands. Negotiate a truce with Scandinavia and you're set.

As for social security why not make it a volunteer program after retirement?

20 days in a year or you get 85% of what you would before.

Also is the US doing clawbacks like in Canada (OAS)?

I think you guys are seriously overestimating the amount of rich people. Yes they could be taxed better and probably more. It just isn't enough to pay for everything. What do you guys view as rich? $100, 000 $200, 000? It seems like a lot to someone who is making $25, 000 but with larger salaries equals larger expenses.

Is it forbidden? Did it get assigned as a weapon to a dwarf?

You really don't need metal for traps. Wooden spiked balls work fine.

Think quantity not quality.

I have a fairly simple plan. First only allow one way into your base. Then since you know the route that they will inevitably take make a trap consisting of 10 wooden spiked balls. With a decent mechanisms it should stop most goblins. Add three more and you're set.

Put the traps on corners while having the path to your base be a bunch of u bends. It's not goblin proof but as long as you have someone to kill maimed goblins you should be good. Be careful though as they get clogged with thieves corpses.

I think the answer is simple. Cannon fodder. How else are you going to fill up your coffins?

Life Advice / Re: Civ 4 or Civ 5?
« on: November 18, 2012, 06:20:36 pm »
As someone who has played only Civ 5, I think its a good game.

The problem with Civ games is that they are repetitive and the game (in my opinion) forces you to build as many wonders as you can. This makes every game just about the same when you're attempting to do an optimal build strategy. (This only came up after 150 hours of play) So when people say that Civ 5 isn't as good I think they're just bored more of the game mechanics then the game itself. Civ 5 is nicely polished and it plays well. The absence of stacking makes it more tactical as you now have to maneuver to get into position. Which helps the defender enormously and the computer isn't all too smart about it.
