DF Modding / Re: How do I make teeth stronger?
« on: November 17, 2010, 08:40:12 pm »
Perhaps a new question -- can I make a weapon that uses "biting" skill to attack with? You'd still have to hold it in one hand, I suppose, but it'd be a pretty good approximation of what I'm going for.

Reminds me of Jaws from the James Bond movies.

Hmm... Steel teeth.

Yeah, but they can crush your head with those big hands.

Wait, wait, wait, hold on just a minute.

How did stabbing make the head fly off? My Armok, the Elves must be pansier than I thought.

Ought to work often enough unless the Goblin refuses to move from the cage tile.
If I remember correctly, whenever I move a cage, the dwarves let the creature out to make it lighter to move. What be me doing wrong?

The sucker of snot; a gigantic noseless ass!

My chest hurts from the laughing.

...
ARGH!

Your dwarves will literally have to swim through the gargantuan amount of stone. I've had quite a few victims (including an elven caravan) drown one of my rubble-filled quarries. The elves forgave me but demanded that I seal it if I wanted any future trading.

It was actually Notch from Minecraft who referred to it multiple times. I guess I am to thank him.

I was about to give you a 'meh' until I saw the depth. It appears my head has gone *a-pop*.

For some reason, Armok heard my pleas and has been giving me useful migrants. No milkers or cheese makers for me! I received a 10 Grower, a 13 Brewer and two miners (With 7 and 11 respectively), the rest of the newcommers weren't special, but they had surprisingly good combat skills.

*Rubs beard*
Is it that I was sacrificing people in my old fort? Perhaps Armok was pleased with the suffering...

Blocks?
Why blocks?

I never found anything useful with using them. Except for the structures that needs it (Wells and something more)

Hurm. I wish there was a way to put them into 'groups' in DT.

I'll give you a quick example.

Urist McGeneric
Urist McGeneric
Urist McGeneric
 -Group 1
  Urist McMason
  Urist McMason
  Urist McCarpenter

Urist McGeneric
Urist McGeneric
 -Group 2
  Urist McMiner
  Urist McMiner

Urist McGeneric
Urist McGeneric

And so on. Too bad chmod is abandoning DT...

Edit : I guess you could do it with having alphabetical nicknames. Like AUrist McMason, which would put him at the top.

Or just lock migrants out and let them die until you're ready for them.

Good point. Now that you mention it, I feel like embarking over a volcano and sacrifice the virgins migrants whose skills are below required.

You're a Grand Master milker, you say? Walk the plank, buddy.

I know.

But I do want to have a hundred dwarves at one point or another. But not on year one, it's too much. My tiny outpost hasn't grown into a thriving city ready to take on all these USELESS peasants. My miners can only dig so fast.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game. After finally getting over the learning curve I refuse to abandon this game. But I keep getting frustrated, removing the region save and starting over.

Because of migrants.

I start off with my specialized seven dwarves and hack away at the mountain that stands before me. A season passes and I get my first batch of migrants with the most useless skills you could ever imagine. But I continue on, carving the new bedrooms for my latest inhabitants. I assign them new jobs and those who are deemed truly crap, I assign them to the military for 24/7 training. My dwarf count is about 14.
Small enough to keep organized and assign new jobs.

Autumn arrives, with the first Dwarf caravan. I sell off all my stone crafts in exchange for extra barrels, bags, booze and some bronze weapons and armour.

Winter arrives! And here is about the time I give up. I get another migrant wave;
of twenty dwarves. My fortress is in chaos, I'm desperately trying to carve out additional bedrooms and assigning jobs to these heaps of Grand Master milkers, animal caretakers or pump operators.

After finally giving everyone new nicknames through Dwarf Therapist, I look at the list in disarray. I can't keep control of all these dwarves, they are too many. What started as a group of settlers has turned into madness.

*Sniff*
I wipe the tear off my cheek and start over.
