DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: INCREDIBLE embark
« on: November 21, 2010, 12:13:56 am »
I don't have any 3d visualisers and the site's got a bit of hillyness to it, not the kind of thing I can just zoom out and cap multiple layers with.  But here's ground level 3x3, showing the volcano mouth and river start next to each other.  The bottom half of the map isn't very hilly (3-4 Z levels), the top half is mountain.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Remember your first Fortresss?
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:47:38 pm »
I dug a hole into the side of a cliff to watch a murky pool drain.  I was so excited, then thought for a moment that it might flood my fortress, despite it being on the same Z plane about 100 tiles away from this tiny pool.

Then I tried to channel the water inside, which was doomed to failure.

My dwar-piphany: lavish roasts made by a decent cook sell for a LOT of money.  I can buy out a caravan with 10~ roasts!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goblins killing eachother.
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:19:04 pm »
I've had this in two fortresses in a row now (separate worlds).  Only one goblin civ, but I noticed in the second one that it appears that my human civ conquered a dark fortress or something and folded some goblins into its ranks (or vice versa?).  When ambushes show up, the goblins fight the human mercenaries in their own band.  Sometimes they attack other goblins, whom I assume are related to the humans somehow.

tldr; I think it's a bug concerning takeovers by/of dark fortresses..

There are three: one at the lower left (biggest one), one right-center (also big), and one top-center (half as big as the others, still big).  They start at the magma sea; it shouldn't be hard to discover any of them, just burrow to the sea and it should reveal at least one.  I had a dwarf fall down the volcano vent and discover one on his way down.

I think I read something about the new release for secondary weapons
might just be for adventure mode, however, let me check

>(*)added aimed attacks, random combat opportunities and the ability to use secondary attacks/weapons (both adv mode and dwf mode combat reports)

I'm unsure if this means fortress mode dwarves are able to carry secondary weapons or what, but I wouldn't count on it

I think this means using shield bashing/punching/kicking/biting etc

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Tantrum spiral final solution????

I think I've seen goblins get slashed in the brain yet live, in 31.18.  Could be wrong

No - the water is generated by aquifier tiles themselves.

###        #### <- regular soil
###77777#### <- Aquifier
###777##     # <- rock layer with the cieling dug out in one place

I recommend intentionally starting a basic game with an aquifier, to experiment :)

Final solution?  Camps.

I had a nightbeast (nightwing?  idk) suck blood from my adventurer to heal itself.

Who knows, keep digging :D

Magma can well up to any cavern level, that's possibly what you've found.. a magma tube.

Very nice, considering it's your first.  You could have gotten a bone scepter. :)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Processor for DF?
« on: November 20, 2010, 02:52:11 am »
I don't see how memory could possibly be more important than CPU, considering almost all lag stems from calculating paths.

which is done by the cpu.. not ram..
But what could it mean, holmes?!

yeah, this is normal. remember Cacame?

Haha, yeah Cacame, that guy was a laugh.  I remember he came home drunk one night wearing a tutu.  What a character.
