DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Favourite Adventure Mode Moments
« on: November 27, 2010, 07:44:17 pm »
I died quite literally a week before retirement, to name a trope. My adventurer The Muscular Merchant of Decisions had killed many, many monsters, lost many friends, and was ready to settle down. Unfortunately, just before he did so, he was given a task by the town he was going to settle in's leader. To kill a titan. Unfortunately, having killed any who stood before him before, he became proud and went alone. He traveled many miles to the north, on an uninhabited peninsula. He entered the monster's shrine, a stone temple with skeletons and treasure strewn about. The adventurer entered stealth mode until he saw the titan at the crest of a hill. A huge serpent with purple, narrow, long feathers. It had green scales, and poison dripped from it's enormous maw. Large, muscular mandibles sprouted from the corners of it's mouth. The beast was terrifying. But, having the utmost confidence in his abilities, he threw his dagger at the beast. He had misjudged the beast. The dagger bounced off the creature's scales, and alerted it to his presence. It spun around, slithered towards him and struck all in a couple heartbeats. It struck five more times, stunning the dwarf and knocking him backwards down the slope of the hill. He swung his axe at the monster, cutting apart it's scale, but only his scale. Throughout the land, the dwarf was known for his combat skills, his ability to block most forefront. But this serpent was a being only a god could hope to hurt. It bit him upon his leg, and flung him twelve meters to the north. He just barely missed smashing into a large birch tree. He attempted to stand, but realized his upper left leg was broken. The beast was upon him again. He fought with all his might, but all his might was not enough. The titan bashed it's great teeth against his shield, and wrenched it from his grip. He slashed at the beast once more, glinting off of the scales of it's head, before the monster closed it's mouth around his head. He knew no more.

And that is how I lost my favorite adventurer.

Maybe adamantine is just the concentrated souls of everyone who died via clowns.

So basically, you're mining people.

Ulrich is still alive, and definitely still fighting. I just cleared out a camp of bandits, with my bum arm.

Edit: Never mind, bogeymen.

Shit. Grizzly bear just tore into my sword arm before I killed it, it's useless. I received no other damage other than that.

I just raided a bandit camp. During the combat, I lost my shield. So, I picked up a bronze short sword to go with my bronze long sword. I managed to kill around three people with that setup.

Dual wielding is now effective, but only if you have dodge.

Maybe a tribe of (insert non civ sentients here) worshiped you.

Well they should, I am the God of Danger, after all.

I killed someone with a figurine of myself.

I found a figurine of me in a spire coming out of a cave entrance (weird, I know) and beat a cougar to death with it.

Max Dragonfire has died in a storm of awesomeness and glory. He was leading a war against an elven civilization. He killed many elves, so many he lost count, before one got in a lucky strike and broke his leg. He fell to the ground, still lashing out against any and all of the elves around him. He struck mortal blows upon those around him, all except for three. The three elves, consisting of a spearman, axeman and a child bore down on him furiously. He fought with all his heart, but he was struck unconscious from a blow to the head. He did not wake up.

Alright, thanks.

EDIT: I am 'Max' Dragonfire, Drill Sergeant. I use an adamantine scimitar. And I just lost my two friends of three weeks. It all started as me being blessed by Armok and receiving an adamantine scimitar, with which i went hunting with. I became legendary in sword and shield using. I recruited two people, Sinur the Lasher and Lon the axeman. We went adventurering, and killed three hydras together, until we were asked to go underground. We obliged, and fought quite a few cyclopses. I personally killed one, until we were separated. I was attacked by one and pushed off a ledge one z-level down, and could not find my way back. After a while of fighting off bat monsters, I eventually found a blood splat. I could instantly tell it was Lon's by the shade of the blood. So, I head off in that direction, until I found my quarry, Ecano Dawnwill, the Keys of Yor, standing over their corpses. They were both mutilated. In a mad rage, I charged towards the giant, and cut open it's chest, tearing the muscle. A series of blows passed between us, without me retaining much but bruises. The giant eventually passed out, when I stabbed it in the head, tearing it's brain. I avenged my friends, and left the cave. Afterwards, I sought out the warlord of The Buttery Plunge. When I found him, he patted me on the back and said he had no other work for me.

I didn't even get a title.
