So draw. Even if you suck, we wanna see what you picture a [goblin raid/elephant/artifact/noble/plant] looks like. >:I

Oh, and I also meant to ask in the original post, but forgot: Is it odd that the elves are continuously bringing me MORE stuff than the stuff I stole last year? I was under the impression that they would bring less and less as I stole more.

I'm not sure if this is right, but from what I've heard...

Elves value cloth over other products. So when you piss them off, they say "ok, screw these guys, they aren't getting any of our precious cloth", and bring less. Because cloth comes in big heavy bins, losing the cloth frees up a lot of space for un-clothy items.

If you've got lots of idle dwarves, set them to only haul, then build a raising bridge. Hook it to a lever, raise it, set a 1x1 garbage dump under it, mark everything useless for dumping, and lower the bridge to atom smash everything.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?
« on: September 10, 2010, 03:00:53 pm »
My current adventurer was given a quest to kill a minotaur. Armed in basic bronze equipment, he was kicked in the ribs by a warthog halfway there and suffered a major heart bruise. With a rousing cry of "fuck this shit hearts are useless anyway" he found the cave, slaughtered everything in it, and went back to the town to get paid.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your best artifact ever
« on: September 07, 2010, 07:02:34 pm »
On my current fort, my second artifact was my miner. He made a bed out of bituminous coal, encircled with bands of iron and menacing with spikes of bituminous coal.

I don't care how much it's worth, it's a goddamn spiked bed made of coal by a miner.

And the sad thing is, I could probably use it to dispose of nobles...but it's too awesome to magmarize.

My fortress is being plagued by a fire-breathing snowball.

I'm not kidding.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Drowning in bags
« on: September 01, 2010, 03:54:43 pm »
Do you really need the bags? I find that 150 bags will give me more bags than I can possibly ever use.

I just checked the stocks. 266 home-made bags, plus about 20 more imported because I had like 20,000 db worth of crafts and I figured I might as well take some.

Alright, I'll stop bag production for now.

Might as well decorate or build a hospital or something.

My priorities, in this order:

Booze
Food
Seeds
Wood
Animals, if I have the money
Cloth/Leather
Bars
Everything else

DF Gameplay Questions / Drowning in bags
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:37:44 pm »
I embarked on a map with red sand and though "yay, glass industry!" So that's all well and good.

Except I have so much cloth now, and it's all being turned into bags. All of it. Do I even need this many bags? I can't tell.

The problem is, I really don't know if I should be using the cloth for bags or for other things. Is there anything else I should be making with cloth (besides hospital stuff), or am I fine just making infinite bags until the end of time?

Spear traps really only build shield, armor and dodge.

My advice would be to litter the entrance of your fort with cage traps. Dig out a semi-large area as an arena, build a drawbridge as the only exit, and place an animal stockpile above it.

Once you catch some mandrills or cougars or whatever, make sure your military is kitted with at least iron stuff, then dig a hole in the arena's roof and designate it as a pit. Have your dwarves lob the animals in, and have the military slaughter them.

If you catch goblins, that's even better. Without building the cages, use [d -> b -> c] to mark them for dumping, then use [k] to unmark the cage. Check the goblin's inventory, and unmark any armor they're wearing. Drop them in, and with their armor (provided it isn't like steel or something) your dwarves should be able to beat the crap out of them, gaining plenty of experience thanks to the extended lifespan of the gobbos.

tl;dr: make them actually kill things.

Dear Urist McMiner,

Please refrain from removing the expertly-designed stone flooring in inappropriate order whilst working above the fortress. Should this occur again, you will be relegated to masonry duty and ordered to repair the large hole punched 30 z-levels downward.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No blood has been shed in the green hills...

Also, schedule doubt:
When i set the training option, should i put the 10 minimum requirement, i heard people saying that some of the dwarfs will starve and dehydrate to death since they have to attend the training sessions, is it true?

If you have a squad of 10 dorfs and the minimum is set to 10, then no dorf will ever have a "free moment" to eat/drink/sleep.

If it's set to 8, then dorfs will "take a break", 2 at a time.
