It's not separate so much as inconsistent. Stuff happens differently in the RTSs vs the books vs WoW vs Hearthstone. Probably just that Blizzard doesn't really care/is trolling us, all things considered.

Not really, they used the books to expand out the content of the RTS, because Warcraft 1 and 2 are both vastly different in how things came to be and ended up different compared to the later things, as a result they typically took parts of the games (or entirely in the case of Warcraft 2), and made it a book series to expand upon the content, they did this with starcraft as well using the book series to expand upon content and add additional stories. Characters from the books ended up in World of Warcraft and generally made connections to the old stories that they came from at times.

Hearthstone is in it's own little non-serious continuity, and isn't part of the same timeline as the "Main" series.

I know Warcraft has a separate canon that includes the books. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple other canons, it seems convoluted enough to warrant it.

Huh, I forgot about those. So they portray the game one way in images and another way in writing? We may already have two separate Hearthstone canons.

It's not a separate canon, it's all one long storyline, Warcraft the video games, though some were superseded by updates in book form, World of Warcraft is not "Separate Canon"

Same with the Hearthstone, there's no two canons, it really is just one and you are overcomplicating it.

I know Gul'Dan is dead in Warcraft but not Hearthstone. I think it exists outside the timeline, where they can pull concepts they want from any part of WoW lore.

He's actually alive again due to that whole timeline thing thanks to the Bronze dragonflight.

I am starting to wonder if Hearthstone is canonical to Warcraft...

Rexxar references it as something he plays in his offtime in heroes of the storm (In his angry poke quotes). So basically I prefer the "They are actors" sort of thing.

Or just simply horror mark it, which is pretty much the beginning of a death sentence.

Magic accuracy and speed penalties were how FO1 and FO2 handled it on a purely mechanical basis as well. Neither of them simulated holding the gun wrong or improper gun lubrication

As I said it extrapolated. There is more going on in a battle then what is shown.

Unlike Fallout 3 where what you see is 100% what is going on.

Having just played both and tactics.. Yeah there is nothing more going on in a battle then what is shown to you, and even then if it was it's due to an older system, an isometric view and otherwise.

I'm tentative on this still. I also really haven't seen anything indicative of scale which worries me in the extreme... I mean I saw a couple of ships and a couple of fighters, but that's not really 40k is it? Like, if anyone remembers the crazy scale of battles E:TW or N:TW got to that's what i'm looking for here.

EDIT: keep rewatching the trailer to look at the sides where the heads up for ship status is and it really makes me think the most we're gonna get is like 8 v 8 ships, a damn shame if that's the case, as this really looked good.

It's based on the tabletop games, which are much smaller (Also ship battles aren't that huge... short of the ships themselves)

Well, if you can build a spaceship, you should be able to build guns.

The spaceship still kinda bugs me, I mean it's basically a structural support, some cyro pods, an engine, and an AI comp.

It's honestly weird that you can't make a spaceship to travel around the planet, or even one you can live in.

I thought the Veigar rework undeniably ruined him? I remember when it came out, it was so obvious that nobody even needed to spend a minute playing him before judging him as completely worthless now and worse in every way.

Was it the TSM slash fic? Godlike teamwork, I think?

Well he does about..a bit under 50% winrate, but he's not as bad as the Ryze rework.

Sidenote: It would be cool if you could either play as a chaos faction or go heretical...

you can, in fact, go renegade.

You can also infact, go chaos! It's just very, very barebones right now, in the beginning stages of construction and a bit difficult to do.

Nope, it is easy, its just when you try to meet the chaos lord the game freezes up.

I'd consider that making it rather difficult to go Chaos. :P

Well I was mostly calling them OP based on comparison to things like MA Ulm, which in 3 had epic armies, but as a balance had NO sacreds whatsoever, and pretty terrible mages.

Atlantis on the other hand has pretty awesome sacreds (Living Pillars, just shy of 30 health and 20 protection, making them good with nature blesses, and probably quite a few other blesses to boot. Oh, and they have magic weapons by default, so no worries against ethereal units.) it also has good mages, and its regular army is nothing to sneeze at, with Deep Shamblers that you can produce by the bucketload to take the first few provinces that will bring your resource production up enough to get the Living Pillars out at a reasonable rate.
Oh, and it has level 3 priests to divine bless them too, so no worries there either.
Basically its just good all around. There are probably better things, but it doesn't seem to have any real weaknesses, at least in 3.

And now I will be testing it out in 4, which just finished downloading :P

I really, really would not compare anything to Dom 3 Ulm. They literally are the worst middle era race, and possibly in running for the worst faction ingame, saying something is OP compared to Ulm isn't exactly a strong mark and most Ulm's survived MP by being the Forge Faction for others to keep them off their back and pray they could get good independent mages.

Living Pillars had awful encumbrance , slow movement, and expensive resource costs from what I remember, not enough to be a worthwhile major blessing but an alright minor.

Ok, so apparently fairly early on in a new game, I run afoul of the chaos lord of the sector and defeat him. And I get that message that says chaos isn't going to be a problem in the sector any more. Only, a few turns later, I start getting heretic cults popping up, or so the messages say in the upper left corner.

Pretty sure it means the Chaos Space Marines of that faction, heretic cults tend to pop up regardless.

Did you pick the daemonbinder trait? Inquisitors randomly watch your dudes using warp-tainted magics sometimes and near-immediately declare you heretic.
Does anybody know if that can be avoided? By raising your relations witht the Inquisition high enough maybe?

Make sure they aint in the same sector watching, otherwise you gotta hope for that trait above to do its work.

Well I wish it luck regardless, hopefully that does well enough.
