The most common items I've been beaten to death with are my backpack and my sock.

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, so try searching around the forums for a bit. I think you'll have to edit the raws in order to disable them, but I have little experience in modding DF so I wouldn't be able to tell you how to do it.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / How does retiring work?
« on: September 11, 2011, 12:09:36 pm »
So, I have an adventurer who's lower left arm recently got chopped off because I decided it would be fun to start clobbering people with a lead ladle instead of slicing them with my longsword... Anyway, his other arm has motor nerve damage, so my master swordsman has been reduced to kicking and biting people to death.
What I want to know is:

What happens when I retire an adventurer? Will I be able to play as him again? Because the game notifies me that all active saves will be deleted.

If I make another character in the same region as the retired character while he is retired, will he be deleted?

Also if I do decide to play as him again, will he still have all of the items that he owned before his retirement?

Thanks in advance for answering these questions. Now I'm just hoping his motor nerve damage will heal, which I've read takes a really long time  :D

When I started playing adventure mode, I just got the list of shortcut keys, pasted them in notepad so that I could look at them once in a while, and dove right into it without any tutorials or anything like that. I think that would be the best approach to this, and as Nivm said, adventure mode is significantly easier than fortress mode so it doesn't really require a tutorial.

I've actually experienced something like this as well. I got a quest to go kill a bandit leader, but everyone there was friendly towards me. I even tried to get quests from some of them, and they wanted me to kill their own leader. It was rather strange... Anyway, I recruited a couple of them and traveled back to the town from whence I came. As I guessed, they were attacked by the villagers and killed. I suspect this happens because at the time of talking to them, you are seen as a hero of their faction, so they won't attack you... Maybe we did some other deeds that gained their favor?

Usually if I die inside a cave or something, all of my important stuff will be inside my backpack. I memorize the name of the cave, and then travel there with my new character. Most of the time, with enough looking, I can find my backpack and it will have pretty much all of my items in it. I'm not sure if the scattering takes items out of bags as well though, however, I've even found whole corpses that I collected in old backpacks of mine.

I recently came across the daughter of a Lady who had survived an attack on her by... I believe it was a titan? I can't really remember though, but I'm pretty sure that it was a titan who attacked her. I knew she survived because she was in the same room as her brother, whom I was talking to at the time.

I was just wondering something.. Are we allowed to take both ears from one person? Or just one ear per person?

Well, that didn't last long. First this guy broke some of my ribs with his maul, and then proceeded to smash my head in :-\

If an enemy stabs you with a weapon and it gets lodged in you, you can also (i)nteract with that weapon while it is stuck in you and try to gain possession of it, although I've never pulled this off successfully.

I think I remember actually finding a prepared fruit fly brain. Now that, must be tricky to prepare, if that's what you were talking about when you said "sounds tricky".

Ah, alright, thanks.

Are you suggesting we implement pimp canes?

If youve ever played Saints Row 2, you know better then to underestimate the almighty pimp cane.
And yes, pimp canes (especially in Saints Row 2) can be quite fashionable as well as deadly  8)
no.. that doesn't necessarily mean I want them in the game lol

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Rings on different fingers?
« on: September 13, 2010, 05:07:18 pm »
Have you ever noticed that whenever your character equips a ring, it would describe it as "ring, thumb, right hand" , no matter how many rings you were wearing? What I'm saying is that you could be wearing 10 rings all on your thumb at once. Is it possible to wear rings on other fingers other than your thumb, right hand? If not, than would it be possible for me to mod this in? And if so, could you give me a few pointers on where to start? Just a small feature that I think would give the game more character depth lol. Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, P.S: Same thing goes with earrings... they always appear on the right ear. It would be cool to see different positions of the earring (conch, lobe, helix, etc...) as well as the other ear. Thanks again :D
