Dear Urist McGrief

I understand that times can be rough after a loved one dies, but please note that the decay of said loved one's corpse of which you seem to be unhappy about is actually your pet dog.  We here do not bestow funeral rites on animals (this includes goblins).  It is difficult enough making a mausoleum big enough to hold every citizen, let alone their pets as well.  Please accept my condolences and for the love of Armok GET HAPPY!

I've just had the most wonderful idea!  What if a room full of furniture mysteriously caught fire, and happened to be assigned to my noblemen?  Further, what if all of the furniture pieces were artifacts and could not be destroyed?  Could I simply assign the room to the current and all future dukes/duchesses?  Would they sleep in such conditions?  Would they be ecstatic about it?

What is the most efficient way to construct this?

What is the most dwarven way?  I'm thinking I might need a dragon to light the furniture...

I just had the most beautiful idea of a noble's room with nothing but lignite furniture, even the door and an artifact lignite bed (or just mod the files so beds can be made from rocks).  It made me giggle for more than 15 seconds so I probably shouldn't do it, but it'd be so awesome.

I had an artifact a few weeks ago made by my master lasher, with an image of my master lasher killing a kobold on it. The decoration was made out of that kobold's bone.

He wanted to commemorate the occasion

Are you sure it's a meager office? My standard 3x3 room with all sirfaces engraved and decent furniture usually gets at least "Office."

Dear Count ShitForBrains,

Only 1 barrel of dwarven ale out of 40 is in the room with the rotting, stinking, burning carcass, in the room absolutely furthest away from your suite, which has a barrel of dwarven ale parked for convenience. So...you just had to bring your guest the human law-giver all the way down there?

Dear Overseer
Subject: RE. Carcass
I was simply trying to impress upon my guest the need for good diplomatic relations, showing him what we do to people we don't like.

New plan, emulate dwarf fortress within dwarf fortress.

How wonderfully recursive.

I already have tons of masterwork bone and silver bolts. They've fallen into magma a few times, but the makers have been prolific enough that it hardly phases them. Even though bone crafts are worth even less, they're a much more renewable resource, with few other uses. Woodcrafts couldn't never be worth as much as the fuel, beds and storage containers are, so my legendary woodcrafters all get to be haulers for life.

Sounds like a set-up for a Dwarf Fortress "Where Are They Now?"

These males and females were at the peak of their careers when they created artifacts, only to fall as quickly as they rose and become furniture haulers because the overseer deemed their life's work "useless."

wooden bolts of high quality? would that make for happy archers?

No but it'd make the crafter unhappy if his masterwork bolts get stuck in a creature and they get taken off the map.

Butcher Dwarves of Rareabbeys

Years later dwarves would tell the tale over and over, stressing the importance of humility and the dangers of hubris.  The dwarves of Rareabbeys thought they could defeat that which lurks below, but instead turned on each other in the moment of their victory.  Such is the fate of any who would dig too deep.

Ive dumped the miner dwarves copper picks and made a few steel ones. But they arnt picking them up, someone please help me *sad face*

Unless you're using your miners as an impromptu militia, I don't see the point.  Copper picks dig out everything that's diggable, and since they're cheap they're pretty much the standard.  Steel doesn't improve anything but their attack against creatures.

Dear Urist McCatPerson

YOU HAVE ALL THE CATS IN THE FORT! (47) Fortunately, I just finished your own wing of the fort for you, so you and your cats can live together for the rest of your lives, which, if my calculations are correct will be just a few more days.

P.S. Ignore the sound of rushing water.

Yours
Your pissed-off overseer

One dwarf is running around pantsless, despite my clothier's shop containing several pairs of pants.

Dear Urist Mcpantsless

Puts some pants on!

Well, unless somebody cooks it before you get the seed out ;)

That's why (f)orbid is your friend.

On a (somewhat) related note, when I try and get my glass industry started it always tells me that I don't have a container for sand.  I bring bags, I make bags, and yet I still get cancellation messages about not having containers.  Do I actually have to set the bags up somewhere to use them or what?
