I didn't increase any skills, and didn't have shields, so that there weren't as many 'lucky shots/blocks'.
All that is in my tests are the weapon's ability to kill, not the user's ability to block, dodge, score a lucky hit, (at least not nearly as much as a grand master fighter, who would have opportunity shots left&right).

All my weapons are steel, as per the original test.

Whips then? Give me a situation and I'll put it to the test. I postulate that picks are the end-all of all weapons, (though whips are nasty).
Oh, and halberds are multi-grasp. The pick users can have a shield as well, or rather, there isn't even a possibility of having a penalty while wielding both, but I didn't include this as it would skew the results.
The three situations I simulated are on even-ground, and isolate the weapon as the sole variable.

Ahem,
Doing some research !!Science!!, 10v10 dwarfs, 5 paces apart, with steel picks vs steel halberds and no skill, (can't give them skill for mining, so it wouldn't be fair). I allow 20 seconds irl after the battle for dwarves to bleed out.

I think I might sig that.

Anywho, I don't think high contact area is a good thing, unless it perhaps adds to accuracy. My steel pick lops off limbs, spills guts and severs heads more consistently than any other weapon I've used, and it's got a penetration on area of 4.0 on .1, with a velocity multiplier of 2x. And then you can wield it one-handed without penalty, and it's about the size of a war hammer, (effects accuracy on small enemies?), and it's the only weapon I've successfully gotten a one-hit kill on a giant, (that was a bronze pick, mind you).

This <<+Steel Pick+>> w/ encrusted native platinum, rubies, and menacing spikes of black opal, is one for the record books.

oh, and yes, silver is the most powerful material for blunt weapons, and the weakest for edged:
