Other Games / Re: Haze - A Persistent World for NWN2
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:18:00 pm »
To be honest I never thought NWN was especially designed that in mind. Even the campaign is impossible to be roleplayed (they just had to throw in NPCs talking to you about camera controls and leveling up, what?). Of course the emotions, gestures and similar things were a nice touch, but why am I unable to walk around without either sneaking or being in constant detection mode?

It's still one of the best games I know for roleplaying purposes, I give it that, even if I'm doubtful they specifically thought about it.

Then we were not talking about the same thing at all!

I was refering to the game's playerbase in general, as from my knowledge it hasn't quite settled down yet, making it a little difficult to find players who actually care about such things as roleplay. That's the point I was trying to make. Of course I meant no offence to this particular server (or any other to begin with).

Personally I do see a reason for this. NWN 2 is still relatively new and so attracts all kinds of people to try it, those who enjoy roleplaying and those who don't. Meanwhile NWN is starting to be rather old, with a smaller playerbase consisting of those who are either too stubborn to switch to the sequel or simply don't have the computer power it requires.

I would predict a similar change in NWN 2 to happen eventually, leaving only those players with enough patience to truly enjoy the game.

I might buy NWN 2 once I have a decent computer and the majority of players start having decent grasp of what roleplaying means. From what I've heard it's generally not much better from WoW's "roleplaying" servers right now, although I hope this can be proved wrong. Until then I'm sticking to NWN.

Also, the last time I heard NWN 2's multiplayer support was quite messed up, but apparently it allows permanent worlds after all. Or did you just find a way around it?

Because you could never carry all the cans to the recycler without breaking your back.

Give me one good reason not to destroy all the zombies in sight.

That would be being too gentle.

Give me one good reason not to execute the nobles.

Granted. Processing chemicals/metals/gasses/non-metals no longer produces so much waste, which leads into world-wide confusion, chaos and beer party.

Your neighbours start to suspect it's all your fault.

I wish no one would ruin this wish or somehow turn it against me.

Granted. Now they try to jump out of it while it's closed and smash their heads.

I wish Armok would leave the poor eye rollers in peace.

Granted. Everyone is nice to our new cat lords. Unfortunately the cats aren't that nice at all and rip everyone's heads off.

The new master race: Cats.

I wish Looking Glass Studios didn't go "Boom!".

From this point it is so sunny every day that the whole human race dies of dehydration before even being able to remember where the closest water source is located.

I wish I could finally finish my Russian course.

If science was entirely based on skepticism how would we know anything besides "I think, therefore I am" (sorry for the cliche)? Faith is needed in science as well.

Or did I just understand your claim wrong?

Good luck on the project, got me interested.

About the turning & line of sight problem: URW had a nice system to handle it the last time I checked. The game itself is something of a graphical roguelike.

Actually here is a good screenshot about the line of sight.

Since it's happening in 38a the only possible solution is that we are witnessing a divine intervention!
