Turn Order:  Ziizo, NRDL

wait for NRDL and attack him with breakdancing once he appears.
Attack Ziizo with my bare hands, using my basic of knowledge of medicine to apply force to his vital areas.

ziizo waits patiently in ambush for the book bearing battler to arrive.

8+1v1: NRDL turns around a corner to find a whirling tempest of break dancing power! They eat a massive kick straight in their right shoulder, making a sickening CRACK that their medical expertise tells them is a broken bone.

2+2v=6: After much thought about the human body's weaknesses, NRDL goes for an attack, but misses! That knowledge doesn't help them much if they don't land a hit.

Keep looking.

5: Mallos keeps walking down the road, looking for any gun dealers in the vicinity. They take a look down a nearby alley, and think they see someone that might be selling such a thing. The legality of the sale seems questionable though.

Drive to the pharmacy and buy a first-aid kit.

2+2: After a short drive, they make their way into the police station. They leave their snake in the car for now, and walk in with the equivalent of 50 dollars.

9: A high quality kit immediately strikes their eye, and there's a pretty good deal on it too. First aid instructions, good tools, gloves, medicine application, sanitizing pads, bandages, gauze pads. Even a little bit of painkillers. This kit has everything they could have thought of, and a few things they didn't. It is a little bit bulky, but since they have a car to keep it in that's not as big of a concern as it would be for most.

They take it to the counter. "That will be 3000 rupees."

A hefty price, but they'll still have more than half their money left. The choice is up to them. Take the deal? Try to haggle a little? Look for a cheaper kit?

Continue playing Trivial Pursuit.
Continue playing.Ask every other wiki-warrior "Are you OK with our deal and everything?"

All the other warriors have taken to the streets and gone inside the college. OceanSoul's question goes unanswered.

5: OceanSoul lands on a Science and Nature question. 5: They do not get it right.

7: Enemy post lands on a category headquarters. Their free piece is Entertainment.

3: OceanSoul gets a history question. 1+1: Despite their bonus to politics being somewhat relevant to the category, it apparently didn't help this time.

6: Enemy post lands on Sports & Leisure. 2: Their driving bonus unfortunately isn't as relevant as they would like it to be.

7: OceanSoul gets to land of category headquarters this time, getting that pesky Sports and Leisure piece for free.

8: Enemy post lands on the Hub, choosing Arts&Literature. 5+2: Turns out their literature question was related to the bible. Well, it is an influential book after all.

Scores:
P1: OceanSoul: Arts&Literature, Sports&Leisure
P2: Enemy Post: Entertainment, History, Science&Nature, Arts&Literature

Enemy Post is pulling ahead in this contest. I think I might slow it down to 2 moves per turn now.

Very sorry about the wait. Things have been very busy. From here on, things should definitely start to clear up.

You haven't made an action for Unsanity, did getting a 1 off the bat discourage you? Because trust me the damage to both you and the car is essentially superficial.

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O
« on: April 29, 2017, 09:37:41 pm »
Ok here is something.

So I am watching a Chinese (or Korean >_< or... another Asian country) anime about a professional MMO player.

and they make him seem more and more super special as the show goes on with the feats and builds he is able to pull off. Yet in doing so they are kind of making the MMO they are playing seem incredibly, stupidly, broken. He is managing to out DPS the damage based classes as a "Classless". I am not even getting into some of the bigger bunch of BS he pulls earlier either (including but not limited to: One shotting a 100-man raid boss)

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Where a show tries so hard to convince us that the protagonist is apparently amazing... but it seems to come at the cost of making the game/sport/whatever seem like it has terrible rule issues?

I mean the only other example is Harry Potter where the entire... Game portion seems to not matter as the Snitch is just worth too many points... But then again that game is MEANT to seem broken. You aren't supposed to think it has really great rules (Heck the Muggle version is nothing like the actual game even if you took out the flying)

Apparently this is a common phenomenon in Manhwa and such for some reason I'm not quite sure of yet. I've actually been reading a lot of translations and such of that sort of thing over the past couple of years. Don't know where or when the trend started, but they apparently love having overpowered protagonists. It happens in their web comics too. To be fair, the same "overpowered protagonist" trend has been happening for awhile with loads of Japanese light novels. ex: Sword Art Online, Mahouka, Asterisk War, Problem Children etc. Some do it better than others, like One Punch Man and Mob Psycho(both made by the same person).

Anyway, I can't point to any specific examples at the moment, but The Gamer and Dice were probably some of the first to heavily use game mechanics as part of the story, and they sort of started a wave of copycats. Some of them even based in fictional games like the anime you've apparently been watching. We can probably expect to see more adaptions of the format in the future.

Monday. Noon twenty. Dodeca City. That about covers it right?

Quote from: Truck Driver
Anything good on the radio?
[Auto-10] The truck driver finds that one station they enjoy, and starts to listen...

Ritual continues. Almost complete.

Bartholomew: [6]

Bartholomew guides the ritual to completion, aided by his followers. Ritual Completion: 100%

Lorethazu is here. That much is certain. The being currently has no material form, but the power it holds fills the room. What do their summoner's desire? What spell or ritual would they like performed. As long as they continue, they may be able to channel multiple effects. However, they must not be too greedy...

Just a reminder, it was an animal communication potion. Sip a little, talk with cat a little, and bring supplies to the park.

[5] You speak with your cat a little. He mostly expresses his hunger, as well as how weird it is that the two of you can talk. You feed Zura, and he seems to like it. You aren't quite sure.

[8] In any event, you haul the supplies out to the park. With their size, it is a little difficult, but you persevere. You didn't bring Zura with you as well, but you could go back for him if you like.

Movie Night Preparations: 100% Everyone in town is pretty exciting about this. Now that you're here, what sorts of films will you decide to show? You are sort of still in charge, even if most of the work preparations weren't done by you. (Pick a genre, or maybe multiple genres. How long will the show last? Any other information you can provide would be nice to have. Personally, I doubt the city would prefer this all be rated r shows and such. It is a public event and all that. Still, it is up to you. Maybe you'll charge for entry, perhaps?)

Chomp as many of my attackers as I can. If I have to pick just one, Harold.

Ignore Sastrei for now, and do a drop elbow onto Franks spine with 420's mechanical elbow, this will probably cause some damage
agh! I need to hurry up or I'll miss out on the glory of slaying the beast! Won't do to have a king that can't fight!

Mathel Ironfish: [4]
Artemis: [3]
Farmers: [3]
PSYCHE-BOT-420: [2]
King Harlaus: [1]
Elaine&Crew: [1]

[9v5] Sastrei makes a defiant last stand, roaring with fury, and grab Harold. With a single motion, the dinosaur tears Harold in half despite his armor!

[10v5] Next, he grabs one of the farmers and throw him at the rest of his fellow farmhands, bowling the lot over! With that, the anesthesia continues to take hold.

[5v4] Frank keeps bashing with his monitor, knocking the robot to the ground! Not much damage is dealt, but it is quite disorienting.

[3v9] AAAAAAAAAAA charges at Sastrei, stone spear in front of him, but is sent flying back with a massive sweep of the dinosaur's tail!

[1v4] Harold lies on the ground next to Sastrei, bleeding to death from the vicious assault. In a last gesture of defiance, he swings his weapon at the beast, but misses his mark. His view of the world fades to black, and the valiant champion dies.

[8v5] The wannabe gangsters unleash a barrage of fire from their pistols, dealing a fair bit of damage to Sastrei.

[10v7] Mathel Ironfish kneecaps Sastrei with their mace, bringing him to the ground. There is an audible crunch of bone on impact.

[10v3] The farmers bounce back with surprising ease, and stab Sastrei repeatedly with their various point implements!

[10v5] PSYCHE-BOT 420 manages to get back up, and drops an augmented elbow onto the crazy old mans back, sending him to the floor. That'll leave a mark.

[6v3] Finally King Harlaus, the leader of this group arrives from the back of the group, hand and a half sword raised high. With a furious strike, they slash open the beast's throat, ending the path of destruction it embodied!

[8] Elaine thanks the warriors for their help, and offers treatment if they help deal with Frank as well.

[2v7] Frank evades the medical team, dashing around the battlefield and swinging their monitor with wild abandon! They inflict more than a few bruises and broken bones in the process.

[5] Artemis calls in, saying that he found it. He notes that someone just killed the creature, so the situation should be resolved soon.

With that, the tension in the area begins to defuse, and there a great many cheers of victory and joy from all sides, save perhaps Frank. One of them goes much like this.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Turn Order:  NRDL, Ziizo

Play Trivial Pursuit with OceanSoul.
Play Trivial Pursuit with Enemy Post. Ask if the people not playing are OK with us doing this. It should take a few turns.
(Hoo boy, here we go. What are the odds either of these two follow through and willingly die? Especially with OceanSoul's second ability...)

The two roll dice to determine who goes first, and tie. They roll again! OceanSoul wins the roll to go first!

They land on a category headquarters, getting the Arts & Literature piece for free.

7: Enemy post is given a history question, which they answer correctly.

1: OceanSoul lands on a science and nature question, and they get it wrong.

6: Enemy post also gets a question from that category, and they get it right.

OceanSoul lands on an Arts&Literature space, which is useless to them since have the piece.

Enemy post also gets a repeat space, wasting their turn.

Scores:
P1: OceanSoul: Arts&Literature
P2: Enemy Post: History, Science&Nature

(6 is the minimum roll to succeed in this sub game. In retrospect, this is going to take more than "a few turns", so I'll be making it 3 turns per player instead.)

Follow Ziizo inside the college. Swing again with the book if I can catch up.
retreat inside the College

1: NRDL is ready for action before ziizo is, but in their haste they trip over the pharmacology manual!

3: They land on their face, but their makeshift armor absorbs almost all of the damage.

4: They pry their book(and them self) off the ground, and get ready to follow in Pursuit.

3: ziizo retreats inside the college, though they stumble over NRDL's book a bit on the way. There appear to be some classes going on right now.

Leave the college campus hurriedly. Look for a weapons dealer in the local area, if there is one.
Drive towards the nearest store

Based on google maps, there are two exits, one north, and one southwest. The north exit diverges into two paths, one to the east, which doesn't go much of anywhere but eventually leads to a shopping mall. The west path here and the southeast exit both essentially lead to the same place after a bit of divergence: Ekala-kotadeniyawa road(Which is also labeled Colombo road for some reason, and I'll be calling it that because it is shorter and easier to remember). The nearest stores in this area are as follows. South is Mariyo Food, which is of course a restaurant. Further south is probably several turns of driving before anything noteworthy shows up. North on the road is Damro Showroom, an appliance store. Next to the north are a restaurant, hotel/bakery combo, no less than three different hardware stores, as well as two other grocery stores and a pharmacy before you get a choice of heading east or further north.

6: Mallos leaves the campus via the north exit, and ends up at Damro Showroom, an appliance store that specializes in home and garden items. They pass this up and continue on to Liyanage Trade Centre & Nippon Paint CCM, a hardware store. They don't see any weapon dealers, but maybe they can make their own?

(The nearest firearm store I can find to Minuwangonda(which is just a fairly small province) is halfway across the island, near the coast. Weird, as gun laws don't seem absurdly strict in Sri Lanka. Perhaps more strict than the United States, but not by all that much. They're no Britain, at any rate. If you keep looking I might generate one out of thin air, as not even google is all seeing evidently.)

9+2: Rautherdir also makes a drive to the nearest store from the north exit, Damro Showroom. Perhaps they'd like to continue driving? The store is a bit beyond their budget, probably. Maybe they can find a cheap toaster?

Roll To Dodge / Re: Wiki Wars Redux: Round 1, Turn 2: First Blood
« on: April 27, 2017, 04:26:16 pm »
Firstly, I'd like to state that articles from other wiki(like TvTropes) might be a thing in future rounds. Potentially Wiki Point related.

Secondly, believe it or not I wasn't expecting you to actually sit down and play trivial pursuit. Due to the obvious issues that running a trivia game on the internet poses, I'll run the game as follows.

First, all players will roll to determine the category of their question. I'll run two category attempts per turn per player. Note that rolling a category you've already answered correctly is possible, and is essentially a wasted turn for the game in universe. If a player lands on the hub, I'll automatically choose the best category for them that they don't have a piece of yet.

After category selection, they'll roll a die to determine if they get the question from that category right. If they have any relevant skills to that category, they'll get a bonus on the die roll.  There's also a rare chance they can get a piece of their choosing free during category selection. In the endgame, the final question needed to win the game will use that player's worst category.

If you're still okay with the luck element all that involves, don't mind me. The whole game will basically be automated, and I won't be tracking player positions on a simulated board. That'd be far too much work. Also, you'll need to tell me who goes first, as that player will have their question evaluated first, potentially giving them an advantage. It will go like this: P1 question 1, P2 question 1, P1 question 2, P2 question 2. This scales with increased player count as you might expect. Given that neither of you are likely to concede such an advantage, I'll probably roll to see who player one is.

Turn Order: Mallos, Enemy post, NRDL, OceanSoul, Ziizo, Rautherdir

Look for a vantage point to observe the others fighting relatively safely.

4: Mallos looks for around for a safe place to observe the fighting, and finds a nearby bush they can hide in. They escape safely. It isn't the most comfortable spot, but they can see what's going on.

Form tentacles and armor using my beard hair. Use these to defend against initial attacks.

8: Enemy post uses his new power over hair keratin to armor his face with his beard hair. He even gets that pair of tentacles he wanted, and practices controlling them.

Attack Ziizo with the heaviest book in my inventory, bash him in the face.

2vs7: NRDL examines the pair of door stoppers they have in their possession. America in Vietnam is massive, with about 560 pages. The Dutch Medical encyclopedia has more than double that, with about 1250 pages. The medical encyclopedia probably has more immediately valuable knowledge, but when it comes to head smashing this isn't even a contest.

Having made their decision, they raise the Pharmacology guide, and try to smash it over Ziizo's head. They miss spectacularly, and the heavy tome's weight sends it flying from their hands with a massive *WHAM* when it hits the ground. The book hasn't sustained any damage. On the other hand, the concrete floor hasn't fared as well.

Attack NRDL while breakdancing

9+1vs9: Ziizo goes for a break dancing attack, spinning and jumping around! NRDL is almost able to avoid the assault, but Ziizo's Dancing expertise pulls through! NRDL has a spinning kick hit their right leg. It isn't an especially powerful attack, but Ziizo has drawn first blood!

Announce a challenge in a game of Trivial Pursuit, where the winner gets to kill the losers without resistance! A Shadow Pursuit, if you will! All those playing the game are not to be harmed by those outside the game, lest they forfeit themselves unto the harmed, and those playing the game cannot harm eachother until the game is done.

7: OceanSoul announces a challenge! Trivial Pursuit to the death! Shadow Pursuit, he calls it! He explains the rules, but doesn't receive any response.

Get into the Dallara DW12 and start it

9+2: Rautherdir dashes into their vehicle, practically vaulting into the cockpit. They've probably done this many times before. With little delay, they take the keys out of a pocket, and start up the vehicle! The engine roars in anticipation. With that, the barrier around the school fades, and the combatants are free to go anywhere they like.

As of now, the barrier is down. Feel free to go wherever you like. If you want to know if something is nearby, feel free to ask. The nearest hospital will probably be relevant information, for instance. Remember that Sri Lanka is an island nation, so it'll probably be difficult to leave. However, Wiki Warriors do have a nearly universal passport, so that's a thing.

Roll To Dodge / Re: Wiki Wars Redux: Round 1, Turn 1: It begins!
« on: April 26, 2017, 05:42:34 pm »
Starting Area: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President%27s_College,_Minuwangoda

Outside of President's College, Minuwangoda, 6 unusual people stand in an uneasy circle. This prestigious academy is located in the town of Minuwangoda, which is further located in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. This college located on an island nation is to be the starting point for the competition known as The Wiki Wars.

The first of our competitors is known as Enemy Post. They have few material resources with them; only the standard clothing and money given to all combatants. But beneath that simple exterior is a interesting set of abilities that prevent them from being marked as an average, ordinary person.

The next combatant goes by the name of Mallos. They are Head of the German Society of Montreal. Mallos is wearing uniform 21 of the Alaskan Aces, a Basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association. They also hold a basketball in their arms, as well as a highly decorated mirror. Such a mirror is used in the tradition known as Ayeneh taudani.

Third is the head of Imazon, a non profit organization dedicated to conserving the Amazon Rain Forest. For this competition, they go by NRDL! Well, Wiki Wars is one way to promote an activist cause, that's for sure. They brought some interesting literature with them, as well as an old award winning Japanese film.

Next up is Ziizo. I've heard of culture warriors, but this is ridiculous! Their only asset is a rap-hiphop album by Mac Dre, no relation to the more famous Dr Dre. They have a great many skills though, and those could bring them to victory.

Fifth in our line up is Rautherdir. They own Ed Carpenter racing, and wear a Formula One Suit to show for it. Nearby is a vehicle that they have the keys for, a Dalarra DW12 Formula Racing Car! Sitting in the palm of their hand is a Zebra Dwarf Boa. They have the know how to care for such a creature, and they're a pretty good driver too. They also have a couple unusual but potentially powerful abilities at their disposal. If victory was based on the raw power of one's articles alone, they might be the winner.

Last but not least is OceanSoul! They are the owner of a Christian Broadcasting channel based in Illinois, WCFC-CA. In addition, they wear uniform number 25 of Dynamo Dresden, a German Association Football team. Like Mallos, they have an appropriate ball to suit their skills. Also in their possessions are a Copy of Trivial pursuit, and a letter of reprimand from the pope to be delivered to a church of their choosing.

They all know why they are here. These varied individuals wait patiently, and a bell tolls within the nearby building, marking the time as 7 am, the time that their battle is set to begin! What will they do to claim victory in this competition?

Note 1: Abilities do stack, but there's a limit to how high that stacking can go.
Note 2: If you have an item in your inventory based on a foreign language, you have knowledge of that language to go with it.
Note 3: There will be no more people spawning in during this round.
Note 4: Everyone has been given roughly 50 USD worth of the local currency, Sri Lankan Rupees. I made the number a bit more even for simplicity's sake. That, or whomever gave you that currency took a fee for their work in converting it. Your call. 1 USD is roughly 150 Sri Lankan Rupees at the time of this writing. Spend wisely!
Note 5: There is currently a barrier of sorts around the college. You must stay in the vicinity for at least one turn before you are free to go wherever you like. Feel free to ask for nearby locations, which I will use a map to find when possible.

Edit: Apparently I spelled Ziizo's name wrong. It is an easy mistake to make. This has been fixed.

Roll To Dodge / Wiki Wars Redux: CANCELLED
« on: April 25, 2017, 11:52:28 pm »
This is a game of Wikipedia Article Warfare. Like any other version of Wikipedia Article Warfare, the goal of this game is to incapacitate all of the other players to the point where they are unable to continue. The simplest way to achieve this goal would be to kill the other players, or put them in a comatose/long-term K.O.'d state. Of course, there are potentially other viable methods. Included in said methods are imprisonment, as well as severe brain damage and mental trauma. Basically anything that damages to the mind to the point where they can't even cognitively function well enough to be a proper contender anymore. The last player remaining will be the Champion.

As I've said before in older threads, the original idea for this sort of game belongs to TCM. I don't intend to compete with Greatness in terms of players in this one. I greatly enjoy the plot and world building they do in their game, but I think some of us at Bay12 might like another go at the classic mindless violence the original concept embodied. The champion always gets to be a returning fighter if they want.

Roll To Dodge / Re: Roll To Split Time
« on: April 25, 2017, 07:12:21 pm »
...What? How did "abandon device" create that many timelines? Why did we kill each other by throwing the device at ourselves so many times in all those timelines? Hm. Time for some observations.

Observations:
1: We seem to get a -1 penalty to the Death roll for every other timeline that exists other than the one the action takes place in. This penalty is applied based on when the action takes place, so later actions become easer or harder based on how many deaths happened earlier that turn. Also, splits caused by the same action seem to occur simultaneously for the purposes of this check.
2: Timelines appear to be numbered in binary. The following quote is the seemingly the only exception. We didn't have a T000, T0000, etc yet. Possibly just an authorial mistake. T0 is almost certainly our initial timeline before we picked up (or maybe just before we used) the device.
The Screen Has The String 'T00' Lit Up.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You press the blue button but unfortunately for you, you chose the wrong time line. You start to get colder, colder, colder. Your limbs lose all feeling. How ironic that someone is still burning just a few feet away. You need to sleep. You just put your head down for a little while... TIME LINE 'T00' HAS ENDED.
3: We have a compulsion to kill any other version of our self we see. Protagonist, this isn't Highlander! You need every bit of help you can get!
4: This one is more speculative. With every action, a timeline is possibly created for each outcome. Failure, success, etc. That doesn't quite explain the insanity that occurred last turn though.

My 3 actions were secret rolls, and did not merit a screen update. That might mean I'm on the right track. I'm not sure of the next step though. Everybody, try not to create too many trivial timelines, as it seems to get us killed.

With that, some actions! If I'm making you roll too many dice, tell me. I'll tone it down.
