Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: (SG) Clickbait Steampunk, name pending

Newspaper stealth.

But yeah it doesn't have to be a teleporter I guess? Was kind of messing around.

Would anyone be interesting in a game based on Tremors?

558
I guess that's true. I'll probably not be doing a round like that first though. It'll be easier to make sure everything works if I only have one team to work with, so the first scenario is probably what I'll go with. Still, I'll definitely consider letting the players be monsters if I run it again(assuming I run it at all).

Its an old Kevin Bacon movie. One of the best. Sort of a low budget monster movie. If you haven't seen it you really should, its kind of a classic.

Edit for brief summery: Basically, protagonists and such live in a small town called Perfection, Nevada. Total Populations around 20 people. Suddenly town comes under attack by these big underground worms, they have to figure out how to escape or combat them. Notable for having really good direction. Very little wasted time. Most of the characters are actually quite intelligent about their situation as well, which isn't the usual fare in these sorts of movies. Generally speaking, the characters don't do stupid things for no reason, and only rarely can you say "They should have done this, that, or some other thing." Example: The monster is underground? Well then, let's get up on the roofs and figure out a plan for what to do from there.

The monsters are blind, heavily armored, and generally sense prey by vibrations. Sound is a sort of vibration of course, but walking on the ground is probably most deadly for you. They're also fairly intelligent, and learn and adapt over time. The first movie is generally the best, and there are 4 more films of varying quality(and apparently one more in the works), as well as a TV series.

Edit: As an aside, the urban magic thing sounds somewhat interesting.

I've been on a sort of Tremors kick lately for some bizarre reason. Just now I had the idea to make an RTD or Forum Game of some variety based on Tremors. Figures that whenever I get a good idea, it is when I'm trying to sleep. Anyone interested? Shouldn't be too difficult creating a setting of sorts. I don't plan on being too close to the movies or anything like that.

Just gonna throw down some stuff for later when I wake up just so I don't forget when I fall asleep. Mostly just loose ideas, not all these things are gonna apply at once probably.

Doesn't have to be chunky salsa, but probably will be. RTD mechanics might not necessarily happen, but it might be a good way to ensure that people actually fail sometimes, which would definitely make things more interesting.

Gameplay Possibilities:
1: Players are town residents. Escaping the town or killing all the graboids to win. People probably submit their own character.
2: Have one player control the graboids, the rest are town folk. Graboids win if all humans die. Probably will use mostly pms for both teams.
3: All players control their own graboid, and face townsfolk controlled by me. Kill humans to evolve maybe?
Restrictions:
1: Make character types limited. Not everyone can be a paranoid gun hoarder. People can still submit their own character though.
2: Pre-made characters, first come first serve.
3: Try to enforce IC behavior. These people probably shouldn't know anything about the monsters.

Note to self: Consider using the new forms introduced in the newer movies and not just the first one. Genre savvyness might make things too easy otherwise.

Am still interested, though a bit put off that we might have to keep fighting Beirus. Honestly it might be better to get him involved more with the greater plot you have planned while us lesser mortals build up enough power/relevance.

Edit: Ah well all right then.

Figured I'd have a go at this. Sort of assuming this is a suggestion game rather than everyone having their own character.

Your name: Edgar Warner

The name of your invention: Portable Teleporter (I tried to create an over the top steampunk name involving alliteration or acronym use. The results were all awful so I'll spare you my efforts.)

Your companions:

A drunken Prodigy: You don’t know what possessed you to invite that distant and ragged vagrant in for supper that fated night. But despite his appearance he proved to have an extensive knowledge of mathematics, engineering and hyper-spatial conformations. He even managed to get the spatial oscillators working, a problem you had worked on for two weeks straight. Since then you have kept your eye out for him, and though he smells of grease and occasionally insults your neighbors (loudly, all at once), he is an extraordinary conversationalist; as long as you don’t mention his past or his questionable habits, that is.

A reclusive ex-butler: Your aunt was an… eccentric individual. You yourself cannot forget a night in your youth, visiting her mansion. You don’t dance naked around a pyre with a raw goat skin on your head when you have sleepless nephews in the room facing the garden. The butler was there, of course, he was loyal and tireless, and deserved the inheritance he got. He has retired now, makes excellent tea and lives not far from you. Whenever you have him over you can enjoy a story of your aunt, or if you’re lucky, a tale of the occult.

Your possessions:

A collection of souls: You must admit you felt a bit disappointed when the only inheritance you got from your aunt was a tea set. Sure, it was a Chinese handcrafted 48-piece tea set, but considering the long profound conversations you two had you had expected something a little… more. You weren’t disappointed once you found the six small and slightly glowing glass bottles safely packed into the pot, however. An exciting and forbidden treasure worthy your aunt, for sure.

Your motivation for your masterpiece:

Just to relieve the boredom. (Start off with an even greater genius, but with slight social disabilities. The relationship with your rival Leonora Duvane is also more… complicated)[/spoiler]

And where do you look for food:

A low-priced bakery.

Wow I feel like an idiot. How did I miss that sticky? All right then, guess that answers this thread.

Oh. Do you have anything more in depth on that? Because apparently that update was in September, which was sort of a while back.

To be fair I've been getting gateway 504's on and off for a little bit, so it could be related. Forums do feel a bit slower than usual.

General Discussion / Search Problem?
« on: December 29, 2016, 05:52:46 pm »
Not really sure where to put this, but I've been trying to search through old threads because of reasons, and every time I click to go to page 2 of search I get something like this:

http://imgur.com/a/eeTg2

The first page of results works just fine but the moment I click any other page it just gives me an empty page as shown with no other pages to click. I'd use search to see if anyone else is having this issue but I can't search past page 1 so yeah.

So is it just me or is anyone else having this problem. Have tried chrome, firefox, and even internet explorer of all things and this happens in all of them. Phone browser is being too laggy to search, but I'm going to try a different computer after I post this. It happens no matter what I search, even things which should obviously have thousands of results like "dwarf".

Edit: Yep, the other computer did it too.

Roll To Dodge / Re: Space Whaling RTD Adventure: Revival - Cancelled

Right then, at least I got through one hunt when the original didn't. Gonna lock thread I guess.

2. A game involving the players being the crew of a very large vehicle as it traverses very dangerous locations. I haven't decided on what kind of vehicle, I have like 12 different ideas and they all work.
If it's a flying/floating train with turrets and gathering crew and equipment over time, I'm interested on account of it being a childhood paper&pencil game of mine.

Oh damn I had a pnp game sorta like that too. Its part of what inspired that awful giant space ship idea I had a while back that never went anywhere. Also idea 3 appeals to me because of this flash game called motherload. Heck combine the two it could work. Actually yeah do that.

569
If people still care about this, I should have an update around new years(probably after). I've had finals to deal with and a lot of other annoying/time consuming stuff. Still do, but I figured I'd give an explanation.

Note: If people drop I might be willing to let waiisters control their characters just so this can finish on a semi decent note. Honestly I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish the second hunt, and at least now I know what I did wrong and such if I ever run this again.

Roll To Dodge / Re: Wizards' Wacky Death Race(7/7): Pre-Race Preparation 4
« on: December 06, 2016, 02:21:59 am »
Its fine. Honestly I probably couldn't handle this many myself even without the magic aspect. Looks good so far by the way.

So, is the fact that people get two random copies of what they asked for instead of 1 a way of reducing the effects of bad luck, or something to that affect?
