There should be a nightly build that auto-compiles every night. I know that it takes ages to do optimisation, but that doesn't need to be done, since it's a nightly, not a release.
We should then have bugfix releases whenever there are enough bugs, then we should have feature releases whenever all the features on the release schedule are done for that release.

I don't think that it should use the kiln, it should be a job for the actual building itself. You'd set it like you set catapults, so you can have it just sitting there with no heat, then you can set it to heat mode, where they will heat it up and require fuel every so often, then you'd order them to release it and it would drop to the z level below.

Plants right now are too basic to even merit a sponsorship drive. I think that a megabeast drive or a weapon drive would probably be a good one to do.

A UI drive would never be done, since overhauling the UI is more than just adding some RAWs, it's a whole new arc.

We could use something similar to the military system for the taverns. So we can set general options for taverns, as well as setting individual options for taverns. We'd be able to make tavern profiles to easily assign to taverns.

We should then have an accountant noble who can take care of accounting and figure out profits and losses. I'm imagining that they'd pay in coin.

I don't think that we should have to worry about controversy in the game. The media will never hear about it, and if they did want to complain, there's plenty as it is to complain about, think about it:

  • A bunch of alcoholic dwarves
  • Who like dismembering elves
  • Who also throw babies goblins into magma
I don't see anything wrong with real plant names to be honest, I think it's more that Toady hasn't bothered figuring out what plants to base it on.

Multi threading would require a lot of work. Like a couple of months to even get it working I'd imagine. All the while, he wouldn't be developing new gameplay features.

Gameplay features mean donations. They are also a lot more fun for Toady to program, he DF for himself, not for others. Multithreading wouldn't get many donations.

Also multithreading would create a lot of bugs, which people would incessantly complain about, more than they currently do.

Multithreading would have rather marked improvements, even if they aren't proportional. If we had temperature on one core, path-finding on another, fluids on another and then the rest on another, we could probably get a 200% performance improvement at least.

One of the main difficulties with multithreading is that really, it would run as slow as the slowest process. e.g. If pathfinding was the slowest process, then in order to remain synced, the temperature etc. processes would have to wait for pathfinding to finish before starting another tick.

This could be fixed by a new system instead of ticks, but that would probably require almost a complete rewrite of the code.

I'm in two minds about adding in steam power and stuff. I would love steampunk DF, but at the same time, I like it as it is.

Basically, I'd like to have the option to mod in steampunk DF if I wanted. The problem is that Toady isn't going to add in a framework for steam power if it's not going to be in the core game.

Coking was first used for industrial applications in 1601, so not everything follows the guideline, and I don't thing it should, because as it has been said: This is Dwarf period.

I think we should just wait for the RAWs arc.
The RAW system/language is horrible and it really needs a rewrite in my opinion. I'm pretty sure the reason for this is because it's really easy to read by a program.

Steam engines have been around for thousands of years, only in the 18th century we have began to use it on mine carts.

Useful steam engines haven't been. The aeolipile doesn't count, as it isn't actually a useful form of power at all.

Dwarf Fortress doesn't really conform to the middle ages theme anyway, as I've said many times before, coke wasn't used by the west until 1709.

An atmospheric engine is probably the maximum that we would get in DF, anything else is too complex.

It's in the latest dev list for the arc. Release 4 for adventure mode and release 5 for dwarf mode I think.

I think that it should be a zone based system, instead of a building from the Q menu. We should then be able to go into a new interface where we can change settings like prices and stuff. There could also be a way to store food and drink in the tavern, similar to how we currently do it with the healthcare system, especially since it is fixed now.

Monocles would be quite nice, they are in period too. Maybe certain nobles like the bookkeeper would need a monocle/spectacles to achieve a certain degree of accuracy.
