Creative Projects / Re: Requesting C++ assistance!

Are you planning on making it graphical eventually to make-a something like so? (saw this thread and threw something together rq in openGL to display.  By rq I mean an accursed laptop that tends to hit ;;;; ).

(Real reason I made this: bored at hospital sitting with family member, and already gone thru most of NeHe's openGL tutorials and other resources just reading without making anything.)

Other Games / Re: Emulating Amiga games
« on: August 15, 2011, 11:22:44 am »
The Amiga was basically one of the best gaming systems of its time (along with other things).  There are a ton of games I remember playing on it, a few random other things like that one drawing/animation program, etc.  Some of these games started entire genres (and of course, many got ported elsewhere also after-the-fact).

The only replacement I had for a long time after the Amiga was basically consoles: the PC had nothing good to offer for a long, LONG time (and I even still used the Amiga for a long time too, until eventually, shamefully, it got tossed in a cleanup after some PC purchase of a 'new-omg-computer').

Other Games / Re: Zombie Games... Aren't you sick of them yet?
« on: August 04, 2011, 01:16:21 am »
It's still too contrived.  If you sneak through the whole thing: surprise, they weren't zombies, you were just crazy?  And now you get the happy ending.

No: you sneak around, and then it turns out they really are zombies and they finally mass on you and kill you. Always got to be one step ahead of the player.

Other Games / Re: Diablo III and Why You Shouldn't Buy It
« on: August 03, 2011, 12:02:10 pm »
(Quick note: Not buying the game, and didn't buy SC2 either).

As far as ideas go, the idea itself is sound: making an in-game sanctioned RMT auction house to earn a bit more cash as well as provide a safe(r) way for people that want to trade items for cash because they will anyway.  Also, I think Everquest does this already.

The act itself though does turn the game from a single player (with focus/potential MP) romp to an always online: "may as well call it an MMORPG" (and of course, means many people can't play it now at all), and your machine is just an 'instance'.  A delicious, hackable instance.

Which bring me to the real issue: with all the scams in WoW and the 'blizzard wallet' thingy whats likely to happen is 'hacking / derp farming' for cash by scammers, and of course ways to hack the game for items to sell for cash that get past blizzard protection.

Imo, taking a 'pure experience' game and turning it into 'bs marketing wholesale (with more scammers!)' instead of having a minor amount of that stuff happen to the side.

Aye, at this point, animations or GTFO (or make Myst, again, I guess).

There was a massive limbo fix the other day, which looks to have fixed most of the issues.

Edit: looks like he found someone.

In other news, he is now hiring for an entry level programmer- from the front page:

Yeah. There has to be a certain amount of it though. 2 blocks deep should do it.
Also a word of warning: Cacti absorb blocks above them when they grow. So don't put anything over them.

Wait, does this mean you can use Cacti as some sort of breaching doomsday flood the dungeon with lava on an odd, time it takes for the cactus to grow timer system?

Just got a post from the lead dev: he has wrapped up business and is back to working on Hazeron: next stop, pathfinding algorithm lag!

Currently, the developer is taking a break I believe (no info from him for several weeks, some confirmed reports of vacation/other from calling the company).  Unknown time for him to get back, guessing next month (with no real data).
Until then, Limbo issues are stacking up, so its sort of dangerous to leave a working system to do anything.

I needs Script!

Went ahead and took a break from hacking thru other programming stuff to tackle this real quick, to add to my other Terraria scripts.  Its a shame to just give it to one person, so here it is for everyone (and adding to my page one post).

edit: looked at Sirians and thought "doh! I should add a suspend key" and did so, using pause

In a game that centers around being prepared for fights, why the fuck do they not give you a chance to prepare

So just finished it.  (Played on Hard mode, of course)
Overall opinion: Good game, as long as you ignore the bullshit controls. WTB, at the very least, target lock and potentially pause & target select so I don't leap past the hoard of critters to go smash the bunny rabbit behind them, and then attempt to light a torch.

Only other problem I had was: doing the alchemy path, so many places where you can't properly drink potions and set up, and one place where even if you do it takes so long they all wear off.
