Someone go make a Share Your Handwriting thread.

Be warned, for if you collect enough bad handwriting in one place you might summon something wicked and vile.

Its not done until we do not see a stupid appeals court reversing the decent decision because reasons, tho. ::)

Shush.  Keep reality out of the happy thread and into the sad thread, where it belongs!

Well, played thru the mercy path (~12 hours, apparently also missed some possible things).  Game gets kinda crazy near the end.  So much that spoilers would absolutely ruin, including talking about stuff AFTER the ending, due to the games quirkiness with saves and character knowledge.

Damn good game.  (now to murder everyone because I can. Ha. Ha.)

Other Games / First Wonder (Giants Citizen Kabuto successor -Kickstarter)
« on: September 05, 2015, 11:43:24 pm »
So hey, I missed the start of this thing but I see it now so here it is: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/roguerocket/first-wonder

First Wonder is a spiritual successor to Giants Citizen Kabuto (and MDK) by Rogue Rocket games.  You can see early examples of gameplay in the vid as well (Cargonauts and boosters/modules use, and Monstro using the environment), so its not just all concept art and talking: go watch the vid.

(Video of Giants: Citizen Kabuto and discussion by TotalBiscuit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvxDF83apCQ )

Edit: Old below

So Rogue Rocket games, which consists of the guys that made Giants Citizen Kabuto.... are working on a spiritual successor to it.  And apparently, they were at PAX showing off early assets/gameplay:

Information is pretty sparse right now, but theres a kickstarter planned pretty soon, like in next month or so (or maybe they just want to announce the starting time soon? I'm not sure of the wording).  Giants Citizen Kabuto was a damn good game and I would really love to see a successor/sequel/whatever they call these things now- hoping to hell its doesn't get fucked up somehow.

Thanks Reelya. That feedback was actually really helpful; it's very easy to learn how to program, as in learning the syntax of a language, but it's difficult to learn how to be an effective programmer.

This is what I say: programming is easy, development is tough, and then there's engineering and architecture if you want hard mode.

Well, the other clerics / bodyguards could still technically attack Durkula... they would just be put to death.

And the Vampire + his fresh thralls may not be the only problem... as there also may end up a mage on his side.

Last day of the kickstarter, looks like it just smashed its last 'party goal' of 65k.  They did really well this time, lots better than the previous 2 ones.

Update on this: Apparently the game is basically finished and is now slated for a September 15th release, barring major issue.

I couldn't understand any of the stuff in his shader, and I had a simple request: how to make the output from my shader brighter? Any sort of brightness / gamma thing I can play with, and he couldn't get it to work. It seems like a simple thing, just scaling up the colour values.

I can't believe it would be that hard... I mean, that shit is basically trivial in GLSL.

I'll help look around, be back if I find anything.

Edit: So, I don't have Unity installed to mess around with things... but looking at the docs, apparently Unity uses either CG or HLSL so those are the docs you should probably look at.  In any case, from http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/ShaderTut2.html  I see "texture modulated by color" so that seems simple enough.

Well, I spent a little over a week with this game, heres my thoughts:

1: I like the 'puzzles' aspect, where you have to figure things out and its not just push this button, go here, get reward, etc.  Of course, you can always cheat just like anything else on the internet, but it feels sort of Everquest in this regard.

2: The grind is 'meh' but it doesn't take long to max a chosen path out... whats really a grind is the reputation/favor grind in order to get access to goodies.  Its kind of interesting though in that any time you are out trying to get gear that you sort goodies you find in order to figure out which npcs gets what... "soandso is collecting swords,  this guy likes art, I need to save fruit to make these things later for this one" etc.  Some of it you can grind offline too which is neat (doing odd jobs for random npcs to get favor AND loot while offline).

3: Death is cheap, more or less, and of course you can even level it for permanent bonuses.   Except of course... curses:  it makes bosses a little more dangerous so you cant take them willy nilly.  At the very least, everyone who assists with a boss gets loot, so assistance and group forming can be organic.   Some of the curses are semi beneficial even (and of course, people who play as cows, etc) so thats kind of neat as well.

4: I like the dangerous environments in some places, gives it a little bit of flavor (you can dehydrate in the desert, you can die of the freezing cold in the mountains, etc).

5: The skill system is almost like a jobs system, except you get two mains and then random side skills (limited slots on main bars and sidebars).  You have to pick and choose the few abilities you get... and a lot of the setup you have depends on what gear you get as well.  You can also make some extremely effective combos with the right gear (and in the end its mostly gear related on how powerful you are).  While leveling up other random things helps your sidebar skills, you only majorly use your main skills plus first aid/armor repair (which is a pain to level), and even then pretty much any bonus skills cost power to use so its still a choice on what to spend it on.  Also, there are drugs and stuff which can increase skill slots.

6: Inventory hell:  so, so much of the game is about managing your limited inventory space.  Thats basically one of the main reasons to favor grind: friendly npcs let you store gear.  Otherwise you can buy "bank" slots, or you can use random chests in certain locations in dungeons/elsewhere (yes, you can store your gear in dungeons).

7:  You can definitely tell its alpha: placeholder npcs/bosses, unimplemented falling damage/drowning,  some awkwardness here and there, etc.  It doesn't necessarily detract too much from whats there at first though, and the first areas are mostly whole.

Overall, kind of charming game, some neat ideas, etc.  I threw em some money to see what they can do with it, but I'm stopping playing now cause I got things to do.

Well, he finally did remove the confiscation thing at last, so now about the last easy exploit is stripping equipment from crewmen to sell back  (that and after you have enough money and enough vulcium suits to buy enough so that you roll over the costs, and then its back to just needing to have massive minting)

If Haxus can release it on steam and make a decent enough game, he should have enough support/purchases to keep it going a lil while, regardless of his attitude on forums (after all, hes no D_e_r_e_k Sm_a_rt.. and even then that dude still makes enough sales on his games, even though a lot of people think they are junk... or maybe they just hate his guts, I dunno).  Quite a few people just want a good game and don't care about the developer, and they are basically just waiting to see.

Of course, with a small support pop it probably doesn't help, but Haxus is an opinionated guy and as they say, "Haxus gonna Haxus".
