When the caravan carrying fourteen lead sarcophagi on two camels has reached the Trade Depot, I want them disintegrated. ATOM BY ATOM.

The fortress of Bookrecluses now has a ghost guarding it's artifact repository, situated at the top of an eight story, blood-red bauxite tower. I had to sacrifice a cheese maker, but at least this ghost doesn't seem to want to leave his place of death. I wasn't making any cheese anyway.

I kinda hit the jackpot with this embark, as I have oodles of bauxite, sand, tons of hematite, bituminous coal and a river. Hoping to fiddle with this one for a few years.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Who do YOU Give the Best Tombs?
« on: November 29, 2010, 06:56:38 pm »
Whoever the hell I think deserves one. My current mega project is making a glass room with a tomb on a dias in the centre, surrounded by magma. Everyone else gets tossed in a coffin along the side of a completely smoothed room, every tile will be filled with coffins before another is opened.

Nobles get tombs until they die, then they no longer rage at the lack of one so they get their tomb taken away and tossed in a coffin like everyone else. Shit. I just realized how ironic that is...
I LOVE DWARF FORTRESS!!!!!

This more or less actually happened in Westminster Abbey. Queen Mary I was disinterred by her sister, Queen Elizabeth I, and dumped in a pauper's tomb. When Elizabeth died, Mary's son, James, had Mary dug up and put into a tomb twice as large as Elizabeth's.

Does anyone know if a roof made out of clear (or any?) glass will stop or slow down cave adaptation? Like if your house was made out of a glass dome you could still get a tan. Heck I would imagine that it would end up an incredible tan, maybe even if it was built wrong like how little ants get burned up. Maybe !!science!!?

Add a floor of glass windows. Decorate liberally with sparkly gem windows. Hold a parade.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Glass Dome Megaproject
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:31:24 pm »
So I tried to do this in the "What's going on in your fort" topic. Twice.
Sadly, it seems that people only look into this topic when they want to show their own achievements.
So I'll try it here now.

I have a megaproject green glass dome, but no working visualizers at all. Could someone please make some nice visualizer pictures of my dome?

Save is here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3490

Thanks for any pictures.

I don't like to open files, BUT, I am also in a glass dome megaproject, are you using glass blocks or glass windows? I build the structure for the windows out of glass blocks, because I'm into extra work.

Extra points if you ring every layer around the dome with glass statues to act as gargoyles.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What to do with mayors?
« on: November 28, 2010, 06:12:47 am »
I love my mayors, they always give me new challenges and absurd pieces of architecture to build. One mayor wanted 3 millstones, so I build a gigantic three story super-mill encased in an iron-block tower. Another wanted 3 clear glass sarcophaguses, so I built him a super mausoleum wherein he had every conceivable clear glass object made and placed in with him, as well as two randomly chosen peasants to accompany his afterlife. I even put in windows around it so everybody can stand and ogle the rot scientifically (I think this guy must've been a Van Hagens fan).

I had one mayor that wanted 3 steel puzzle boxes, and I sort of imagine him looking like Pinhead from Hellraiser.

I adore idiosyncrasies so much. I'm definitely not a hyper controlling Armok, I'm a zen-go-with-the-flow Armok.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Wow. Sieges Escalate Fast...
« on: November 27, 2010, 05:21:29 am »
Yeah, there's something about sieges since .17 that seem to make them escalate far too quickly for my mind to comprehend. I've had to turn sieges off until I can build my fortress as I like it, train my military, set my traps, AND THEN turn them back on.
