I doubt it'd cause much controversy given how mellow these boards are.

Uh, whoops. That was me -- I made Quarr as an alternate account for the RTD subforum but clearly forgot to sign out. Sorry!
Oh.

...Wait, why do you need an alternate account for the RTD subforum? ???
I guess I was afraid you guys would lynch me for abandoning my old RTD without saying anything? Clean slate and all that, really.

Try to break Mal's binding to the amulet -- bind him to my own soul instead.

So long as he's bound to the amulet it will always be possible for some unwitting fool to unleash him. Destroying the amulet is clearly impossible, otherwise it would've been done long ago. By binding him to something transient -- my own life force -- he will undoubtedly die with me.
Who are you, and what are you doing in my thread?  If you would like to be put on the waiting list, I'm sure that can be arranged.

Also, derm, you are correct on all counts.  The word is indeed pusillanimous(you receive a +3 to any roll to dodge death next turn), you are immune to all diseases (this is but a taste of the power of a 665; your action was so simple the benefit had to be simple too), and you can no longer get drunk, save through magical means.

Tarran, nice try but thrall was used twice, meaning it cannot be the word of the day.

Edit: Ninjas, as far as the eye can see...

Suavely strut over to the barkeep and ask to see his special wares.
Hopefully he'll have something beside ale. Something that'll jog my memory...

Turn 2.

"Masks? Haha, what foolishness. Why ever would I want to hide my face? Let those who betrayed me know my identity, my cause. Let them shake in their boots, as the man who once protected them, protects them no longer! I will be the harbinger of their destruction, and they have naught to blame but themselves!"
Looie's the first one to enter the store. Cape draped across his back, he approaches the register. "Hand over the cash, bud. Today's not your lucky day."
The cashier is an older man, in his late thirties. He might even be the manager -- in a flash, he punches Looie in the face, pushes the panic button, and draws a knife.
Looie manages to dodge the punch effortlessly, though the cops are on their way.

Cyrus sits in the driver's seat, engine still going. He can hear sirens in the distance. He's ready to split in a moment's notice.

The second group prepares to enter. Donning masks, they bust through the doors. Dezrick is quick to appropriate an improvised weapon, brandishing a splintered half of a mop menacingly. Finley approaches the register, but backs away once he spots the man's knife. Rolf charges forward, ignoring the danger. He barely evades the cashier's first stab and then delivers a sleek chop to the neck, aiming to incapacitate his enemy with a single blow. The chop doesn't do anything... maybe he pinched the wrong nerve? In the next instant Rolf finds a 3 inch knife embedded in his abdomen.

While this exchange was happening, Dezrick managed to sneak behind the cashier. Bringing the half-mop down across the employee's throat, he gains complete control over the man's movement. After smashing his face into the counter a few times, he opens the cash registers.

"I'm only counting about $600," says Dezrick with a sigh. "Should we search around for the safe?"

The sirens grow louder — sounds like they're getting closer. McCoy doesn't spot anyone close by, but it shouldn't be long now.

You notice the security camera in the corner of the store. Its light is blinking. Could be a fake, but...

Darker than Black isn't really that dark, nor is Higurashi. I'd recommend Higurashi over DtB though.

Turn 1.

"I guess it's decided then. Convenience store first."
As the group stands up, the door opens. Finley walks in with a scowl.
"What'd I miss?"
"We're leaving, right now."

Dezrick takes the wheel while the other five try to fit themselves into his old Altima. The car was clearly designed for, at most, five people... not six. {4} With some struggling and dubious upholding of traffic laws, the group's in. The sun's already set, and it's well into the night.

The car is parked next the entrance, the engine still running, ready for a quick getaway. The lights in the convenience store are on -- looks like this shop's open 24/7. There's only one guy manning both the registers. If there's a safe, it'd be in the employee room next to the counter.

Finley exhales. "Really, a goddamn convenience store? Are we wannabe gangsters from California? What's next, UZIs?"
"We need money before we do anything serious. A couple thousand will make our next job a hell of a lot easier, so quit complaining," says McCoy.

"I have some ski masks in the dash if you guys want them. You know, to disguise your faces or whatever."

It wasn't a very important part of the episode.

Well, it's possible that they were mistaken. I think the visual novel might've had an actual explanation for that too, though it was a while ago that I read it (even moreso than the anime)

When was that? I watched the series a while ago, but I don't recall anything of the sort.

Turn 0.

The five of you sit around a table, cards haphazardly splayed across the surface. A single incandescent bulb hangs from the ceiling. Five would-be criminals exchange glances. They all have their reasons for meeting; be it revenge, lust for power, perhaps even boredom. Some were betrayed by the very world they once tried to change. There was no turning back at this point.

Dan McCoy is the one to break the stifling silence.
"Enough of this stupid card game. We need to get down to business. What do we have? Any guns?"
"I have a car," says Dezrick. "No weapons."
"My mom has a pretty spacious basement," says Rolf, "But we should probably only use it as a last resort."
"Anything else? What about cash?"
"We've scrounged up what we could, but it isn't much. About $400 each."
"Less than I hoped. Making more money should come first. The convenience store around the corner probably only keeps a couple hundred in its register."

"We could steal an ATM from somewhere, pry it open, take the money... bet it'd have at least a couple thou'."
"What, seriously? That's fucking stupid."

"Hey, why don't we just hit a bank or something? With the five of us, I bet we could get in and out in a few minutes. We'd make 10 or 20 thousand, no sweat."

What will you do?

Roll To Dodge / Criminal RTD Turn 13: A man left behind.
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:01:17 am »
The title says all. You and up to five other players have quit your jobs and turned to a life of crime, goal being to amass vast sums of cash. The setting is now, in a typical North American metropolis. The possibilities are limitless.

We'll be using a standard RTD ruleset; 1d6. No modifications.

Character sheet:

Name:
Appearance (clothes, etc):
Background:

I don't mean to be too limiting, but try to keep your backgrounds reasonable. No career killers yet! You'll get a trait from whatever your background is -- it could be something like 'Doctor' (+1 to medical rolls) or 'Firing Range Regular' (+1 to shooting rolls). Feel free to actually add in some flavor too, if you want.

Player list:
1. Cyrus Wolfe (maxicaxi)
2. Dan McCoy (Flintus10)
3. Henry Dezrick (Grakelin)
4. Looie (Realmfighter)
5. Rolf Gramerie (wolfchild)
6. Howard Finley (Dervin)
7. Johnny Bison (rawr359)
8. Alexander Erikson (Jack A T)
9. Mark Jenner (Zako)
