These have been suggested before, but pirates are inevitable.   Putting some thought into it doesn't hurt.

First, I'd suppose the world needs to have 'real' continents and oceans.   This would be a massive change and I dunno if Toady wants to do that or not.  As it is now, I suppose you could be a coastal pirate ot whatever.

There'd need to be an interface for steering the ships; as well as skills related to nautical tasks.   It'd take a lot, but this sort of complex thing is what DF seems to be heading for.

I've never had it happened but I wouldn't assume they were dead.   So having "encased in ice and has frozen to death" would be nice.

There's already berserk and martial trances.   Not quite the same thing, but a similar effect.  They'll be fleshed out in the future I'm sure.

I always thought that pilum would be an excellent weapon for throwers.  NOt that there's anything wrong with butterflies and water   :o

I think polearms in general are pretty neat as utility weapons.   Their range gives some neat advantages; and there's a lot of specialized types.

I think some nobles have more complex requirements than just population.   I dunno how easy this would be to put in, but I can't imagine it would take anything less than some tricky rewriting.

Yeah it would be cool if the soon to be released version allowed you to make your fort anywhere, including near kobold caves or whatever- even volcanos, and they could attack your fort from all angles.   What else would be cool would be enemies that tunnelled or perhaps more random cave innards, so you're not just digging to the right all the time.   One of these days I'll read the development notes and perhaps see if Toady has anything like this planned or even coming out in a few weeks, but until then I'll just post threads uselessly.

(Sarcasm aside, everything you've described is going to be in the new release, pretty much.  Stuff that isn't will be worked on eventually.   The development notes will show you!  http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/dev.html  )
