DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What the cloth.
« on: January 22, 2012, 07:52:50 pm »
Aye, twas My first thought. But this is meant to be a Brewing Fort, not a bloody clothes factory :D
It never hurts to have a couple of sidelines just in case. And if you really don't want to sell it you could always use it to give your militia proper uniforms.
Theyre wearing Leather and Metal :P

Make cloaks. Those can sometimes block freaking WARHAMMERS.
I already had Cloaks before I had to build a massive bloody Cloth Storage Room :P

Looms are a liability unless you immediately order up one of each type of job and suspend it so more jobs can't be auto-generated. Otherwise, they use up all the thread for the hospital and weavers go on suicide missions to the caverns to collect webs.
Hospital has its own Thread Supply from the Farmers Market, but in future, I shall be Suspending Work.

don't process pig tails or rope read at the workshop, end of problem
I dont have either of those things. Thats why Im confoozled :P

No thread of any kind?  Loom not set to autoweave the thread?  If not, I am as confuzzled as you are.
I presume its Cave Spider Silk, found in some deep Cavern I dont even know exists. It may have been set to Autoweave it, though Im sure I told it not to. I was polite!

Cloth Crafts - insane value.

Or red cloaks.
Yeah, but theyre not the center of Industry :D

It sounds like it's auto-gathering silk and making that into cloth. An easy way to fix this is to either turn off auto-collecting, or set it to use dyed cloth / thread only. Hit 'o' and play around with the settings.
Aye :)

Pro-tipsauce - Go into the (o)rders menu and set the loom to auto-loom dyed thread only. Then have your laziest dorf dye it up

As for disposal of cloth, Set custom cloth only stockpiles, custom crappy clothing stockpiles, and some clothesmakers workshops near your entrance/trade depot. Mass decorate everything and trade away.
So, to make sure I understand: Go to the (o)rders menu, set the loom to only loom dyed Thread, assign the Mayor to do all the work, and go build a Custom Stockpile?

Wasn't the ‼solution‼ already mentioned?
Whats funny about this, is that Ive already burnt it all, and three Dwarfs.  8)

Bags, ropes for wells, cat bait, and traction benches, and make the rest into socks so dwarves leave their dirty damn socks all over the fortress.
While a Fort full of Socks would be better than a Fort full of Cloth, then Id just be replacing the Cloth Storage Rooms with Finished Good Storage Rooms.

Make cloaks, give every militia dwarf six cloaks to wear on top of their armor.
But thatd take, like, time and effort.   ::)

I have a similar problem with goblinite cloth. It's everywhere. I use my raw cloth to make bags to go in bedrooms. But goblinite is just being slowly sold.

...Fire?

Also, My problem is solved. The Dorfs are gonna draw about this for Years.

Wait! You can weave them all into masterwork rope, place the rope in a line, like a tapestry!

Then burn it.
Or, burn the massive Store Rooms of Cloth.

Make clothing with it. Sell the clothing to the caravans and buy stuff you actually need.

Okey dokey, for some reason, My Loom has guzzled out ******* piles of cloth, and I have no idea what to do with it all.

SOS!

I've just found how great fun is to tear each enemy's ears and nose before killing him, I had a wrestler who had a bag of some 20 noses as souvenirs :) before he was lashed to death by some overlord something, who did not like to have his face noseless.
A shame - Im sure His Nostrils would have made a great addition to Your mantle ;)

You have been Banished by Armok.
He grew Tired of Your Tiresome Victories, and so Shunned You to the Depths of the World.
Consider it Your New Lifes Work to Appease Armok in Your New Form, that He may Release You when You Sleep.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Alternatives to a Central Stairway Design?

A spiral ramp, except every half-turn there is a bridge over the central shaft instead of the next ramp segment. This is essentially a central shaft (derp) but atleast its different. Actually depending on the scale it could be made to be quite elaborate. Obviously the smallest size would have to be 3x3 but a giant one 7x7 or bigger could be made to be very aesthetically pleasing.
Oh... wow.

Eh... Idea.

Massive Central Shaft with a different district every 10 levels.
With crisscrossing bridges interconnecting them.
And instead of a Roof, theres a big square of Bridges, which serve as Base Defense. If an Enemy triggers a Pressure Pad right next to the front door, the Bridge Retracts, and all my Enemies fall down the Central Shaft, either onto the Bridges or to the bottom, whatever that ends up being. Right, thats what Ill be doing. Thanks!

Separate surface buildings with individual staircases.

multi-helix surrounding your fort.

And now Youve given Me a great idea. Surface Meeting Areas, with Surface Corridors joining them. A Surface Gatehouse with a Drawbridge.
You use a Surface Building to get to a Vertical District, with a Subterranean Antechamber at the Top, Middle, and very Bottom, thus allowing Sub-Districts.
Cheers!

« on: January 20, 2012, 06:01:53 am »
And yes, i know, i could build the Fort in Progressive Squares, or Stairways leading to Corridors leading to Stairs.
Im trying to think of something more than that.
Obviously, this is all plans for the next Version, and I lack the enthusiasm to actually test stuff.
Im toying with a Triangular Stairway Design, where the Stairways are organised in a Triangular manner, in which the Triangles have streets within then, and get 2 squares smaller every level.

But im just after ideas.

if I understood that image right, ninedot almost vertically mutilated an enemy.
That or a very mean looking forgotten beast

Also got a request. I am terrible explaining things, by the way.

Was playing genesis mod as a Giant, and asked a keeper if there was anything to do, and he said that they are quite untroubled. So, I grabbed him and threw him, apparently outside the house and into the forest. Never saw him again.

I imagined it that I rammed the front door open with my head, shouting if there was anything to do, him saying no, then me throwing him into the woods.
Ill totally draw a maniacal giant throwing a keeper after having ploughed a door open with his head :P
