Build the cage in a room attach a lever and let your military have fun with them. There are lots of other ways to kill the little buggers.
And with wild animals?

My squad of markdwarfs on training are most time doing/watching demonstrations and on combat drill. I don't know exactly what this means, but they aren't supposed to train with the archery target too?
