My fortress is built in an area called "The Axe of Vomit"

Whatever horrible, horrible event happened to earn it that name, I hope it happened to an elf.

how would I go about getting more trees to grow? (I'm in an area with few trees and no water)

Any time when I have no idlers and nobody is hauling anything. Ahh, efficiency.

Also, killing caravans for next to no reason.

I played for around three hours straight, and then- I swear this is true- the second I went to save the game, my computer crashed.

How do I keep the idiots from filling all the barrels with plump helmets? I need those barrels for booze.

Dear Rakust,
I get that you don't have an assigned bedroom yet, but there are plenty of free rooms. Plus, Nil has been standing in her doorway in a strange mood for several days, and I doubt she takes kindly to you walking right past her and sleeping in her bed. I'm just sayin', I don't want any harm to come to you, but if she snaps and goes Lorena Bobbit on your ass, I can't promise I won't laugh.

-Your Fearless Leader

Dear Elf Merchants,
You probably should have taken that Elf skelaton you walked past as a warning. It did belong to one of the Elf Merchants who came before you, after all.

Signed,
Your not-too-subtle enemy

Dear Dwarves,
Did any of you kill that third Elf Merchant? I honestly can't find him anywhere. I'd hate to find out he's hiding somewhere, biding his time and preparing a Rambo-style revenge attack. I also want to kill him and take his stuff. He's presumably wearing a red-and-white striped robe.

-Signed, Your Leader

Dear Idiots,
If I see any tantrums over that fucking miasma I swear I'm going to kill you all. Do you know why I designated that dead Giant Mole to be dumped in the middle of nowhere far away from the fortress? So it wouldn't produce miasma! Do you know why you completely ignored that order? I sure as Hell don't! You'll notice that there is now a single, constructed floor tile in the middle of an otherwise rough hewn surface. That's because I had to channel out the ground from underneath the dead mole, then have a floor built over top of it. Just so you dumbasses didn't go crazy and kill each other because of some purple gas!

Signed,
Your exasperated Leader

PS sorry there's not much booze, but all of our barrels are full of plump helmets for some reason!

Apparently, the game dosn't save combat reports for long. The 100 page log against the elf is gone. Sorry.

welp, that's over. My dwarves managed to surround him and hold him in place until my Axedwarf leapt in and strangled him to death.

I would love to see combat logs of this.

I'll take some screenshots and post 'em tomorrow.

So some Elf Merchants arrived at my fortress, and luckily enough, as my soldiers hadn't trained much, they didn't have a bodyguard. So I killed 2 of them without difficulty, but as soon as I went after the third one, he apparently turned into some sort of ninja.

The combat report right now is over 100 pages long, and it's all deflected attacks. They've been chasing him all over the map and they've been attacking him constantly, but they just can't get through. He seems to be entirely covered in rope reed fiber, so I don't know if that's why, or why that would make him impossible to hit.

Is this some sort of bug, or is the guy just really good at not getting hit?

Why on earth did mining out a few tiles of frozen river cause an enormous section of it to spontaneously unfreeze right in the middle of winter?

My soldiers aren't training. I have the barracks set up (armor stand, weapon rack, archery target, and cabinet) and designated as a barracks, I've set there orders to train using the default training schedule, and I made sure I have ten guys in my squad. Am I missing anything, or is there a designated time in the schedule where they're all allowed to stand around doing nothing?

Any good ways to get through an aquifer to mine further down? I'm using a pump stack to try and drain it, but I can't tell if I'm making very little progress, or simply none at all.
