The side of the river is coated in a mixture of pus and blood. It's mostly from naked mole dogs.

I am fairly certain my insane dwarves outnumber the sane ones.

Dear Goblin Snatcher,
Far be it from me to teach you how to do your job, but I believe the idea is to capture the child, not stab them in the head.

Signed,
A Facepalming Overseer.

In rapid succession, I lost four dwarves to a forgotten beast, got my first fell mood, flooded my food stockpile (accidentally), a tantrum spiral started, my mayor went to prison for murder, and my captain of the guard spent too much time tantruming to keep the peace.

But other than that, everything is going splendidly.

The construction of the anti-goblin bridge is underway. What shall I put on the bottom of the pits on either side? water? spikes? weapon traps? Vicious animals of some sort? just dig down to the magma sea?

An experiment involving dropping a giant piece of stone into a magma pit ended with a miner and a turkey on the bottom of the magma sea. Both were expendable.

Also, I've found multiple adamantine veins, so I'll be able to mine it out with less risk of letting the demons out (again).

The short people's motives were pretty dwarven, too: Go to site, extract minerals. But the treehuggers didn't eat their enemies! Plus those must have been some very badly trained dwarves, as they lost to TREEHUGGERS of all things.
Question: If the elves are Na'vi and the dwarves are the humans. then what are DF humans in Avatar?...

I haven't figured that bit out yet.

Also, the Dwarves lost because some idiot was dicking with the raws and gave the Elves dragon mounts.

Do berserk dwarves starve to death? Or do they not have to eat due to becoming an enemy?

Avatar. Colenol Quaritch is quite a bit shorter than his whiny treehugging adversaries, but makes up for it using superior technology and a heaping amount of sociopathy. Also ignores being on fire.

Hmm, perhaps being a DF Player explains why I was rooting for Quaritch.

A horse started attacking other animals, so I had to put it down. Horse sweetbread, anyone?

Question: Does grass worn down to sand ever grow back?

Pretty sure it does, yeah.

So, a Draltha killed one of my dwarves, earning it the name "Roofstrange" My militia, completely unarmed began wailing on it with their fists, incapacitating but not killing it. Eventually it woke up and ran to a cage trap, clearly willing to do anything to get the beating to stop. Luckily, this biome freezes in winter, so I tossed it into the river, still in it's cage, so the water freezing will drive it underground. Then I'll forget where I put it and it'll be stuck there for eternity.

I take inspiration for all my horrible punishments from Harlan Ellison.

Guys, I'm not sure how, but I just hit semi-molten rock before hitting any caverns. I... think my staircase missed all three cavern levels.

Give. Me. Your. Save.

A.K.A. - NO cave plant life growing in your fortress

Too late, I found some caverns in an incident which alos involved all my miners limbs being broken. She's in the hospital, unable to stand, full of infection, and suffering severe blood loss. If she survives this thing, it'll be a miracle.

Also of note: I missed all three cavern layers, and the magma sea.

I have no idea how.

Son of a bitch! A Forgoteen Beast's deadly dust somehow crashed the game! I lost so much progress! draining a subterranean lake, building a whole residential wing, a Dwarven Child with a strange mood...

Shit.

My security system to prevent cavern creatures running amok in my fortress is a landing on my staircase with 2 weapon traps. It's working very effectively, which, this being Dwarf Fortress, means it is now almost entirely covered in blood.

An important combat lesson was learned today: Armourless axedwarves < Serpentman Blowgunners.
