DF Suggestions / Hotkeys to fortress areas
« on: September 08, 2006, 08:12:00 am »
There's already the "G" key that brings you to the fortress entrance, it would be nice to be able to set "hotpoints" anywhere in a fortress and "teleport" there. It's a bit annoying having to go back and forth between the entrance and the lava with the arrow keys.

In the movie, it rains ashes.

Centralia is actually the inspiration behind Silent Hill. I remember reading the notes of a girl who made a trip there. It really feels like you're in fucking Silent Hill.

Am I the only Quebecois here?

I'd be interested in knowing about the techniques used to make an offline copy. Instead of having everybody do one, I would gladly provide a download link for it and auto-update it or something.

I don't really want to request donations so I'll give Google ads a try. I've added a vertical banner to the left bar, I'll see what happens. You can easily block it with Adblock anyway, if it bothers you.

Good news, I've paid my bill to the hosting company for the extra bandwidth - they're only charging for this month, $15 extra. I've asked for an extra 40GB/month (for 6$ more) so I'll have a total bandwidth of 65GB/month. If you guys burn through that, I will be pissed.

(Not really)

So I'll be paying about $15/month for the site, it's not too bad after all. I won't ask for donations but I may eventually put Google ads or something - all the extra money I would make will go to Tarn Adams of course.

I don't know Wikia or other free services but I don't mind paying for now.

Huh, I don't know what happened, I seemed to have been locked out from my hosting account without notice. The DF wiki is down but all my other websites are down too.

The hosting company (Apis Networks, which is goon-run) did not monitor my bandwitdh since I've had the account but recently, they started doing it. I have a 45GB/month limit and I busted it 10 days. I never thought the wiki would be so popular and so bandwitdh-hungry.

It's probably going to cost me MUCH more to keep it up now so I'm not sure what I can do. I'm talking with the hosting guys.

I'll keep you all updated as soon as I get more info. Sorry for the troubles.

Some of you may know already that a bunch of folks on the SomethingAwful (SA) forums started to go crazy over this game, me included. A few members suggested there should be a wiki about it since there is so much stuff to learn.

So yeah, I started an unofficial Dwarf Fortress wiki.

I did not request the permission to Toady One and I hope I am not stepping on his grass. This is done out of respect for such an addictive game.

We're all gentlemen, please avoid crippling the wiki, I can always revert the changes.

Cheers!

Ok that's it, I'm donating $20. Looking at the long development list makes me nervous, I'm really awaiting this.

As for the money thing, I'm hosting the wiki and if you request it, I'm all for putting a small Google text ads bar at the top or bottom and use your account so that the money goes directly to you. Of course, I prefer it without any kind of ads but if you have to make a living with it, no problem.

I'd like to see t-shirts available, I'm a sucker for those. But please, don't use CafePress, their clothes suck.

It would probably be easier to run the orders through Paypal, then Toady could print as many as requested (thus not losing any money for printing too many).
